if your smart these things wouldn't be a problem

in the case you get hit by a power drainer-run away
in the case your enemy has a bubble sheild-stick him if you have grenades
in the case they have regenerator-run, stick, or use the regenerator to your advantage

Unbalance? I think you're just not used to them.

They provide an interesting side to the game. The trip mine can take the shields off that 'hog trying to plow into you, or the power drain can take down the Banshee when the laser is empty or the enemy has it. The regen can help you get the flag back. The Bubble shield can provide a reprive to combat, but you're still vulnerable to stickies and vehicles. Grav lift lets you get to new places. The deployable cover can give one some small bit of cover while running, but is destroyed relatively easily. Did I get them all?

Personally, I wouldn't want to see equipment in Reach. However, if it ends up returning, which I'm fairly positive that it will, it needs to be redone.

Example:

Power Drainer needs to be an EMP blast, rather than a continual drain. Once you deploy it, it should beep until detonation. Closer to detonation, it beeps faster.

I do believe my "walls of text" are being ignored nowadays.

This "poor system" is only poor to those who don't know how to use it.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A BR/AR ARGUMENT. PLEASE DO NOT DISCUSS IT.

Some prefer the BR, due to its mid range ability. Some prefer the AR, due to its versatility. Both dislike the other, in part because they don't like it, and because they don't understand why others would choose it. In fact, both have their place, but neither side wants to give in.

How do I tie this in?

I believe you're just not seeing the purpose of equipment. Think of it as a one-use third weapon.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

SEARCH BAR.

BTW, equipment sucks.

an emp blast would probably cause you to stop moving altogether, but then again video games arent very consistent with reality and when it is its just lame

Regenerators... easy. Rockets. Snipers. Lasers. Grenades. Vehicles. Okay, how about your example. Let me provide a situation.

You're in TS. Your three teammates quit, and one of theirs quit. You all have BRs. So you're on the Pit. You're walking down the overshield hallway, with (item). The three guys spring an ambush, and you're outnumbered, outgunned, etc.

Here's what you do with:

Item=Insta Shield Charge

You fire shots into one enemy, causing him to move back. The other two keep coming. You toss a nade. You lose shields. The nade defeats their shields. You activate recharge, and you kill the two. However, the third comes in with a nade and kills you.

Item=Regenerator.

You fire shots into one enemy, causing him to move back. The other two keep coming. You toss a nade, and the three of you lose shields. You toss a regen, and wipe out the other two. You turn and mop up #3 with full shields, and now getting a refill on ammo and nades.

Which is better? THere's also another outcome.

Item=EITHER ONE

THe three guys come in, nade you. Boom, dead body.

Exactly you just proved my point that current equipment is overpowered by saying you get 3 people purly because of your X button nothing to do with skill or power weapons.
i dont think 3 on 1 was very fair in the first place

Let me further that.

Item=Either one, spent

You walk out, victorious. Enemy team spawns, and wipes you out. Again. They start spawn killing you, due to three vs one. And you got those three kills, so it doesn't look as bad. Equipment is ONE use. And it is skill. You have to know when to use it. For all you know, one guy could've had the Rockets. YOU DON'T KNOW! Think of it as an insurance policy. Life Insurance. Doesn't always work. Many things could've taken the guy in the regen out.

Equipment is garbage and game breaking in its current form. It completely stops the flow of gameplay. It needs to be completely reworked or scrapped.

  • 09.18.2009 8:09 PM PDT

"When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give EL1TE SUPR3MACY lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Not removed, just modified a little. For example, if I shoot a Bubble Shield, its strength should slowly deteriorate until a certain amount of damage is reach, then it should deactivate. Regnerators should only supply a certain percentage of shield energy, once that percentage is reached it deactivates. Etc, etc, etc.

Equipment doesn't need to be removed, just altered so players can use and counter them in a variety of ways.

  • 09.18.2009 8:15 PM PDT

maybe from Matchmaking but definately keep them in customs.

They're extremely fun to use and are very useful if not essential in some custom games

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Nah, I'd rather keep equipment. It's fun trying to take out enemies before they drop the shield drain or activate invincibility, especially on higher difficulties with multiple other enemies. It adds a new element of excitement. The only change I would suggest is a bit more randomization in what the enemies carry.

  • 09.18.2009 9:00 PM PDT

Step 7 is on it's way. Prepare the sling-shot.

All hail for the seventh number.

The equipment is a good idea it alows players to be creative and test themselfs taking them away would make the game more downsized.

Equipment is definitely good, though in MP it could be a bit moor addiquity available as well as in camping. If moor enemies doped equipment moor often that would be wonder full.

Lets just take a look at equipment and how it effects the gameplay.

Power Drain - You are on one shot throw it at a new enemy and you get a cheap kill.
Run.

Bubble Shield - You throw it breaks down the attack and causes the power weapons like the shotgun, hammer or sword.Run in, throw frag, run out. It should break.

Regenerator - If it is thrown down in a battle of any none power weapon makes even the least skillfull players are near invincible in 1v1 situations.You're joking. Please tell me you're joking. It takes the same amount of damage. It's a BR breaker. Get in close with something closer-ranged and either more powerful or faster firing.

Gravity Lift - This piece of equipment helps campers or HLGers to get into places making them harder to find.True, they should ditch that.

...these four pieces of equipment...
