Subject: Should Halo Reach remove all equipment?

Keep BUNGLE away from matchmaking, away from these forums, and overall away from this game.

They should ditch the equipment personally, half of them are awfully broken.

Only thing that should be kept is the Grav Lift.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Lets just take a look at equipment and how it effects the gameplay.
And their counters.

Power Drain - You are on one shot throw it at a new enemy and you get a cheap kill. If you hit. It also lasts maybe 10 seconds, so Drainers need to be used judiciously. And if your entire team gets killed from a power drainer, you are too damn close together.

It is also essential for disabling vehicles and neutralizing Bubbleshields and Regenerators.

Bubble Shield - You throw it breaks down the attack and causes the power weapons like the shotgun, hammer or sword. Yes, it's a hardpoint in a box. You know what breaks hardpoints? Tactics. Like, a Power Drainer, Shotgun, Sword, Hammer, Spike Grenade, or a Warthog.

And you can drive the other team out of it, and make it your own.

Regenerator - If it is thrown down in a battle of any none power weapon makes even the least skillfull players are near invincible in 1v1 situations.Maybe you should play to win instead of trying to go for 1v1 situations. There are TEAM variants for a reason. It seems to me that if you have skill, then you would realize that anyone in a Regen can be taken out with a single frag grenade and a BR burst. Or a Power Drainer. Or ANY instant kill weapon.

Gravity Lift - This piece of equipment helps campers or HLGers to get into places making them harder to find.It also smooths gameplay on maps like High Ground and messes up Warthogs on Rat's Nest. Objective games are significantly enriched by this piece of equipment.

And it's Bungie's job to make maps that prevent HLG activities.

As you can tell from just these three pieces of equipment used in matchmaking they unbalance the gameplay and make some weapons over powered or underpowered. You could say the same thing about Power Weapons. Except that equipment has a time limit, and can be commandeered by the other team once activated.

So disscus whever or not you would ike to see equipment in Reach or not.I want it in.

Also think how much better the gamplay of the first two halo games was compared to 3 due to this new system.I remember much more bland gameplay, with far fewer surprises and ways to reverse a team's lead. I remember standard shooter with matchmaking, and single weapon based gameplay. In Halo 3, its much more varied. I want that variety.

Equipment adds alternative styles of gameplay. Its not other peoples fault you dont know how to react to it.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Another thing MLG removes equipment because it unbalances gameplay.

What i am knoticing is that people who want it to stay are low levels or didnt play the first two games.
Wow, way to hate. My and a lot of people I know love using equipment for custom games. We have all played the original Halo games. And what does level have to do with it? I see generals use equipment more often than lower level players.

You just got Shakespeared!

I owe my life to the trip mine, that has helped me out in so many occasion and its just a way to add a different playing style.

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

They should only remove one piece of equipment.
A tool.
Amd that tool is you.

The vast majority of generals are terrible at the game since they came from a not MLG playlist.
Oh, so if you don't play MLG then you're not a real Halo player, huh? You can't judge people based on what play lists they like. I like a little of everything, even MLG, but I usually stick to Social Slayer because I have to most fun there. What playlist you go into the most does not determine what kind of player you are.

I'm out.

I believe you're just not seeing the purpose of equipment. Think of it as a one-use third weapon.

Think of it as a one use third weapon that gives you a free kill when you get outplayed.

Fixed.

I will use equipment whenever I get the chance, since I am playing to win. That doesn't mean that equipment isn't imbalanced. It seriously needs to be toned down.

gosh, throw one new factor into a game that changes gameplay and everyone freaks. Just because it changes the formula doesn't mean it's a bad thing. If anything, there should be a wider variety of equipment in reach. maybe things other than invis and overshields too, like a speed booster, or a damage modifier. These things aren't broken, they don't ruin gameplay, they deepen in and make it more interesting. if you have a rocket launcher, you can't just fire for a guaranteed hit. he may throw a bubble shield down, and you have to factor that in. my friend tries to carry bubble shield whenever he's driving a hog, so if he spots a laser he can quickly get out and save his hide. adding more situations makes things more comlicated, which makes people think differently, which makes others freak out. different isn't bad, its fun.

This guy is one of the reasons I took a LONG break from the Bungie Forums. MLG is fun, but equipment is great. Espically in campaign.

I like the idea of equipment, but I feel like it should be redone. Stuff like the energy drainer and regenerator sort of sucked but stuff more along the idea of the gravity lift were neater.

I guess to say it simply, I want tools, not power ups.

You seem to have the conception that repeatingly spamming headshots on the BR is skillful. Yes it's less noob friendly but most people can get the hang of it.
Also you don't seem to understand the term 'tactics'.
What this means my friend is not running straight into a bubble shield when they clearly want you to do so.

There is a difference between skill and tactics, skill is how accurate you are, how good your reactions are etc.

Tactics are how you deal with a situation e.g. retreating round a corner and throwing a grenade or throwing a power drain between you and your enemy to get good distance for a BR kill.
Or even like on Halo CE when fall damage adds to tactics ie. should I jump down and loose some health or should I try and take on the guy with the rocket launcher.

I agree that equipment needs to be altered but it should not be removed.

An excellent question OP, the answer to which is a big YES. Equipments has only served to dumb down H3 gameplay, Reach will be better off without it.

it doese'nt look nextgen , looks good but not nextgen
If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

They should bring back the BETA Trip Mine. The one they have now sucks... grenades do more damage.

that sounds pretty staight foward ?

I personally like equipment, but If I had to come up with a compromise that I could live with to make equipment a less significant factor of gameplay for Halo Reach. Then in Campaign I would only let enemies use equipment like in Halo 3 ODST. In multiplayer, most ranked playlists wouldn't have equipment but then most social playlists would include eqipment. In custom games you could use equipment and you could add equipment to a map in forge.
