I think a cool level to play would be a space battle. Now I don't mean flying around ship-to-ship like Battlefront or something. I mean kinda like the Truth and Reconciliation level from Halo CE. But when you looked out the windows or bay doors you would see an ongoing battle. And as you progressed through the level, certain areas would get cut off or destroyed because the ship is under attack. There could also be zero gravity areas, because the gravity failed in that part of the ship. Or maybe it could be an open layout like the city in ODST and you could attack certain hardpoints in any order. You then could be shown what the engine room looks like, all the way to the bridge or navigation deck.

Oh yeah I think I do remember that in Halo 2. Where you walked around on top of the MAC station? That was just low gravity. I'm talking like if you looked up and walked, you'd just float up to the ceiling. And people that you killed, their bodies would just float there and you could push them out of the way and stuff.

Also,(don't get me wrong, Truth and Reconciliation was one of my favorite levels) it was still very linear just as that whole game kinda was.

And it seems like a pretty good idea to me. What would be cool is you escape the 'dying' ship on a Longsword, and you have to operate the weapons systems until you're safely on another ship or the planet surface. Maybe not very Halo-ish, but still cool. But isn't that what happened in the book? The Spartans were in orbit when they decided where they would go for the battle. Meh. I don't know. It's been years since I read the book.
