I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

There was a post on this before but it failed a bit, so I am going to make it better.

Okay, as we all know you can, at this point, hold up to 2 weapons. But we also know that you can store weapons on your back, or your side.

What I say, is you should be able to have one larger, back weapon, one smaller, hip weapon, and a weapon in your hands.

So can you have a Shotgun, Sniper, and Rocket Launcher? No.

Can you have a BR, Sniper, and SMG? Yes.

How you would change weapons? Simple, just pressing Y would swap to your small hip weapon, while holding Y would swap to your larger back weapon, in a similar fashion to how pressing RB would reload, and holding RB would pick up a weapon on the ground.

If you are holding a BR, and have a Shotgun, and a Magnum, and you choose to swap to the Magnum, you will drop your BR, as you can only carry one weapon on your back. But if you swap with your shotgun, weapons will change as normal, and the BR will go on your back.

If you ask me, this would make an effective system for weapon carrying, and would be a bit more realistic use of the weapon space you have on your body.

Going beyond 3, this system could be used to carry 4 weapons as well as you should, actually, be able to store 2 small weapons, one on the left leg, and one on the right. To do this, weapon switch would probably be best to become a Directional Pad function, Up for large weapon, Left or Right for your 2 small weapons, or down to dual wield BOTH stored small weapons. Y would become your Team Chat/Flashlight button.

"Don't worry I'll hold his hand"

all i can say is that this is better than the last suggestion for this although its still semi complicated for the casual gamer. not bad though

The second option is almost exactly like Gears, and it is friendly to casual gamers.

The beauty of having 2 weapons is that you have to be a whole lot more tactical. How fun would Halo be if you had all weapons at your disposal with just the press of a button? Not fun at all.

You wouldn't though, you could hold 2 small, weak weapons, 1 larger weapon, and one weapon in your hands.

You would still have to divide the good weapons, like the Sniper, Rockets, Shotgun, and whatnot. Just you would have more smaller variety at your disposal. Weaker weapons could appear more often and become more useful.

The thing is this: you're trying to give the player more possibilities, but at the same time limiting them greatly. What if I like carrying around a Splazer and a rocket launcher?

You can, the same way you can now. Laser in you hands, Rockets on your back, just switch back and forth like usual, and ignore your sidearm. Or you can switch to your sidearm, dropping whichever is in your hand.

I think two weapons is just fine.
but I think it would be cool to have dual SMG's on your hips. I think it would look cool when you switch 'em out!

Hi, I am the White Mamba Overlord of our group the ODSM.
We are not a clan, and we don't play the game for competition. Instead we play for fun, and to hang out with friends. If you are interested in joining go to our group homepage and sign up. Membership is open.
We are mostly a Halo 3: ODST group for help with achievements and stuff, but we also will play a lot of Halo 3 matchmaking.

nvm

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Im not sure how switching weapons would work, but how I have imagined this is as follows.

You get 1 pistol slot (Plasma pistol or magnum)) and 2 full weapon slots (2 handed weapons)

very nice idea (i still wish halo was a third person shooter haha)

  • 09.19.2009 10:21 PM PDT

So your implying that we should hold a third weapon, it just needs to be a small/dual wieldable one?

I like it.

Nihilism (from the Latin nihil, nothing) is a philosophical position that argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.

Put simply in the words of Nietzsche as "the will to nothingness".

This is much better thought out than the last post. I can actually see this working (direction pad for switching weapons etc), it would be fun to get in a vehicle without losing dualies. Nicely thought out.

Other way around actually, you would get two single handed weapons slots, and 1 2 handed, as there is room for a 1 handed on either hip.

Slim-slam is to Grifball, what Rugby is to Football.

Honestly I think using the D-Pad is a bad idea. When I play Halo, I focus on the D-Pad the least. Personally, I like the controls as is, add then hold 'Y' and it's still good.

they should make it like Cysis

OR just have a keep on tapping to change method?
It would be tedious in the middle of combat, but then holding it could open up a weapon swap side window like on RSV.

Nyan nyan, nyan nyan, ni hao nyan! Gorgeous, delicious, deculture!

I like this idea. It really should be implemented into Halo: Reach .

Actually it is a well known fact that it is faster, and easier, to pull out a sidearm than a rifle. Or a Rocket Launcher, or a Sniper. It makes perfect sense this way. Hold Y for the big gun.

I think we should be able to have two standard weapons, and a SOCOM pistol. If they put the Halo 3 pistol in Reach, I will cry.

  • 09.20.2009 4:44 AM PDT

I think it's good that you are thinking of an interesting new feature to bring to Reach, but i think it just wouldn't work with the gameplay. To me, the weapons work in pairs (eg. sniper/shotgun) and having a third would be too confusing and could give unfair advantages such as rocket launcher/sniper/SMG

Nihilism (from the Latin nihil, nothing) is a philosophical position that argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.

Put simply in the words of Nietzsche as "the will to nothingness".

This is a simple idea, one two handed weapon on your back then two single handed weapons on your thighs and that leaves room for whatever is in your hands.

Wayne Jarvis, Attorney at Law; I have a responsibility to tell you that there is no candy in this office.

I prefer having two weapons.

Anyway, there's a problem, in that it would be hard to pick up weapons on the fly with your pistol out. You can't swap it for a large weapon, so you'd have to switch weapons, and then swap with whatever you're trying to grab.

Also, if you have two powerful weapons, what on Earth would you need a pistol for?

A better method to switch weapons would involve the D-Pad
