I've been reading the halo books lately and read about how much more badass the spartans are than an FPS lets you be. When you play a FPS you really can't interract with your environment as well as a real spartan, or any soldier with half a brain would. Halo is still really awsome as an FPS, im not doubting that, but if bungie were to make an even harder difficulty than legendary or something, youd need to be more strategic...think like a spartan. something like what rainbow six vegas 2 did would even work. just imagine doing campaign, and all of a sudden a horde of grunts and 2 elites ambushed you, would a spartan either
A: jump around back and forth hoping covenant cant shoot people in the air.
or B: take cover, toss a grenade and counter strike as the grenade goes off.
just take a minute to think of the oportunities that you could have if halo were a 3rd person shooter.

The whole point of Halo is being a First Person Shooter. Halo wars was an exeption to this but it was made by ensemble studios. A Bungie made Halo game wouldn't really be anything but FPS

I think it could work but I don't like the idea of it. I'm a FPS man.

it's been confirmed to be a fps already.
and I wouldn't like a TPS.

TPSes have their place when the main cause is for it to really be an action game with shooting combat. Halo is a shooter. Not an action game.

However, if you want to turn Halo into an action game with the main mechanic of shooting for combat, then it could be done, although it would take some creativity.

Awesome isn’t just a word. Awesome is a way of life. Awesome is a way of war. Teamwork matters the most. Lone Wolves jeopardize the missions. Teamwork is key. Resistance is futile. The covenant fear us, not the other way around. We don’t fight for Earth. We don’t fight for Reach. We fight for the good of mankind because we are A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Alpha Wolf Elite Squadron Ordinary Mammals Electrocuted. Click the Homepage.

I had an idea just like this, but some people said they would rather keep first person, and some said good idea.I posted another one saying, you could alternate between fpv and 3pv.3pv would have the same controls as mgs4.People said there would be disadvantages for fpv users. What if in campaign, you could alternate between views in the start menue. In multiplayer, there would be multiplayer where you only play with people using the same view as you.

alright, theres been a little misunderstanding, the idea is not for halo reach to be a TPS but for the next game in the franchise to be one. and i hear you guys are saying a constant TPS can get a little overwelming, but when i brought up the game rainbow six vegas 2 i meant for you guys to consider the way they did the gameplay. its an FPS, but when you need to take cover or do a roll, it turns into a brief TPS, and that was my idea. just to make it a little bit harder for the the enemy to hit you. and it would even be great for machinimas.

i always thought it'd be cool to have r6v styled gameplay i.e. get against walls and see your character and have the rest be first person

Perception is everything.

When halo was originally being designed, they had it laid out as a 3rd person shooter, but changed it because they realized it wasn't fun...so no, keep it FPS.

A Spartan would grab an energy sword off an elite and cut them all down to pieces, while throwing grenades at advancing targets, then he would duck behind cover, pull out 2 SMGs and run out killing more covenant soldiers.

Spartans can be tactical, but they use different strategy's then say a squad of ODSTs, which is why it wouldn't be as fun playing a spartan in 3rd person. If they did make 3rd person I hope it would be a side story of a marine.

thats a good thought, but the FPS users in multiplayer would complain because the TPS users could take cover and see around corners, plus you have to consider all of the memory used for rendering and all that, there might not be room for two shooter styles, but if bungie could figure a way around it, id welcome it. great idea

that was a long time ago though, they have great technology to change problems they had with halo CE.

i dont know about the whole grabbing the sword and pulling dual smgs, it would be cool but what happens in the mean time while the other 10 covenants are putting about 5 plasmas into your sheilds per second. the spartan is considered to be a tank by alot of people, but the main purpose of the suit was to make it easier for spartan stealth. and the sheilds were made as a backup only. spartans arent completely superior to covenants, theyre equal to elites physically, and technologically. but they have a spartans mental capabilities, every strategy used in the past art of war.

IT Should be like star wars battle front! You can switch between first and third person in game if you want to.

Yeah, but thats not really what Halo is about, your a spartan that goes around kicking alien booty and a hero to everyone. You dont get the same effect of being a hero if your going around being stealthy.

im not trying to say you have to be ninja stealthy, but play campaign on legendary, you have to plan your attacks a little bit more carefully, and your not just a walking tank that cant be killed. in a TPS, or even the ideas that alot of people have brought up, an alternating between TPS and FPS, you could make yourself alot harder to hit instead of have to be completely out of cover in order to shoot someone.
