Halo deserves its M rating, I think mostly due to the Flood. Shooting the arms off zombies can be traumatizing to little kids, and even those in the Teen group. ESRB rates games so they are well into the range they are supposed to be in. (in other words, if its questionable between two levels, the game almost always goes one level higher. Just to be safe.)

Whoever mentioned this is right, but ESRB is actually pretty liberal. Im suprised they dont use the "Adults Only" (AO) rating more. Especially for The Suffering and games of that caliber. Most gamers dont even know AO exsists.

it would be one thing if you were shooting arms off real humans, but the flood is different. You don't see the arm go flying into a corner, it just seems to disappear when u shoot it off.

Actually, it flies off and lands somewhere. On the last part of Two Betrayals in the second generator room, I found limbs and chunks everywhere.

Despite being decayed zombies, that still imposes decapitation and, erm, amputation by way of ballistic weapons :P

Besides, have you seen the aftermath of the Flood? If you look at dead flood, you can see the bone and the flesh, where the arm/leg was blown off, and you can see internal organs, like part of a mandible and an eye socket.

If its grayed out, that means your computer cant handle those. You cant enable them at all, since your computer isnt powerful enough. Theres no way to change it unless you upgrade your computer.

If you had a kid, especially a young one, you might not want him/her playing a violent game like Halo. Sure, there's worse games out there, like Mankind and GTA. But there are nicer ones too, like Spongebog and Powerpuff Girls.

my exact thoughts but its the people who rate it. it has nothing to do with bungie as long as u are happy playing just play :)

Go into video options and turn decals on. you'll see the blood on the walls then.

Yes, ESRB is a good rating system. I respect them and their decisions, even though halo being an M is a little borderline.

Dude, the flood scared the -blam!- out of me when I first played 343GS. That level's ambients and environment radiate evil. And yes, it made by little bro have nightmares (he was i think 12 when i first got HPC).

Games like the suffering dude, yeah, they're scary.

Serious? i'm only 12 when i got the game and no nightmares man!!!

P.S. my 8 year old bro plays it and nothing affects him. i mean he just melees the corpses of the dead flood, and how come you guys think cortanas hot???

sry if this is off topic but i have seen my friend go throught the library with like 20 elite flood with no arms following him the whole way. it was funny. shooting there arms off isnt that bad. all they do is stand next to u and gurgle.

True, but Resident Evil is subdued and orthodox compared to games like The Suffering and GTA.

In a nutshell, Resident Evil is basically just zombies that shuffle, groan and grab at wherever you shoot them. Nothing you can actually relate to.

But in GTA, for example, people will yell and scream, sometimes, theyll run away in fear, expressing human emotions...and in order to finish the game, you have to kill innocent bystanders. Sometimes, killing a bystander is crucial to completing a task. As for The Suffering, certain cutscenes pretty much desensitize the torture of humans.

And dont give me that "its just a video game" crap; as games become more realistic, they become more immersive, the more they affect everyday life.

Like I said, sometimes I wonder why ESRB doesnt use that AO rating more.

You guys are being a little to narrow minded. To determine why Halo has a "M" rating, you have to look at the gaming scene in general. Stop thinking about Halo and think about all the other types of games that are out there for the PC. When you compare Halo to some of these games, would you consider Halo mature? For example, if NBA2005 is rated EVERYONE, how does Halo compare to that? How is Halo compared to SpiderMan2? I'd let my 10yr old kid play SpiderMan2 with no question. But with Halo, I'd probably turn off some of the gore.

When you think of it that way, most violent games will get a Mature rating. And a quick check of Gamespy.com, shows that to be true.

Oh, and GTA definately should have a more strict rating than M. Maybe not AO, but something in between. Like a NC17 or something. The simple fact that u can be walking down the street and a thug says "Hey D**khead, get the F**K outta here", and you can have unsensored sex with your girlfriend, shows it should have a strict rating.
