Huh? Halo2 was knocked off the top spot for a few weeks by Gears of War, until then there was nothing else to contend with it. As much as I love Halo, if you look at it with an unbiased eye, Halo2 prevailed as much due to lack of competition as it did due to it's own gameplay.
Krisis' point stands though, Halo2 was rushed. You can tell in the buggy gameplay. Part of Halo2's huge draw was that it openned up the "glitch" community that played to find and exploit bugs. Super bouncing, button combos and PP/BR combos (the latter two being animation glitches) and the like, they drew in a whole new crowd.
Personally I think that Bungie has taken quite a bit from their past mistakes, and I expect quite a bit from Reach in terms of both campaign (my favorite aspect) and MP.
I hope that you do realize that despite those shortcomings, Halo 2 was the greatest game that ever came.
1) Top of the notch graphics
2) One of the first games to enable XBL (I would say the first game but I'm unsure)
3) A solid online component coupled with a solid campaign (that I still enjoy playing from time-to-time. remember legendary on that game. Only for those who are truly masters at halo. STILL can't get past Cairo. Stuck at the part where the elites and grunts invade the space station) that many games can only imagine to imitate.
Not trying to bash you or anything like. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. (A prime example of immaturity is that one senator saying that whoever doesn't agree with Obama is racist)
If you think about, all devs will say that the game could be greatly improved. Heck, if they were given 10 years, then I'm sure that they will still say that if given another year, they would make it better.
Halo 2 for the xbox changed everything whether you want to admit it or not is up to you.
Halo CE put the xbox on the map
Halo 2 kept the xbox on the map and paved the way for the 360
If halo wasn't released on the xbox, we currently wouldn't be MS fanboys right now.
One last thing: before you go bashing on Sony fanboys remember this, you were once a sony fanboy, too (remember the PS2? back in the day, that was were all the good games were and what the tough guys played on)
I wasn't speaking ill of the game as much as I was trying to get people to take an honest look at it. Halo2 was the best thing on xbl (though certainly not the only title, not even among the first), but that is due largely to a lack of competition. Most huge titles were waiting for the next set of hardware. There was some competition to be sure, but it wasn't overly strong, not until the first Gears game.
The campiagn is regarded by many to be the weakest in the trilogy, with poor pacing and obvious cuts due to time constraints. Even Bungie employees have admited to as much. On legendary the only challenge the game presented was the openning, but once you adopted the PP/BR it was easy as pie. The worst offense, they wasted a great oppourtunity by designing the Arbiters levels to be nothing more than drawn out throw-aways. His second mission, to retrieve the index is terribly, you can literally run through it without firing a shot (i've done it) until you get to the shuttle into the library. The only thing you need to kill is the Super Sentinal.
I know it sounds like i'm being harsh and saying it's garbage, but that's not the case. I am critical of it because I am a huge Halo fan, and as a follow up to Halo CE, Halo2 only took steps forward in MP and it's engine, and the "advancements" made in MP are highly debatable.
I will certainly agree that Halo2 kept the box alive, but that wasn't because it was as earth shattering an FPS as it's predecessor was, it was simply better than anything else available at the time.
