Well they say the sky's the limit
And to me that's really true
But my friend you have seen nothin
Just wait til I get through...
It is obvious that the BR is a very controversial weapon, in that there are many who are for its complete use and many of those who are just plain tired of the strife it stirs. So, it seems obvious that the problem will never go away in it's current form.
Judging by the amount of people who still don't understand that Bungie made the creative decision to leave the BR out of ODST, the BR will nonetheless survive into the doctrine of whatever Reach may bring us.
I believe the BR should be changed. Some would say "upgraded." I, would say "downgraded." Now wait, let me explain: Halo: Reach obviously takes place during the Fall of Reach, before that of Halo CE. Now the amount of time can be argued, but since it is a prequel, I would say for the BR to follow more of what it was during development of Halo 2 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ncp-c8Dask. I would call this the prototype BR, as it was a prototype for development of the game.
Characteristics of the Prototype BR55
- fires in three-round bursts when unscoped
- fires semi-automatically (however fast you can pull the trigger) when unscoped
- some other points, such as spread/crosshairs can be slightly altered as it is not the "final" version of the weapon
There is speculation on part of OXM that Halo: Reach could be class based. Why? Well, Bungie isn't just gonna give us the same formula every single time, right? They never have. And look at the top of the screen, the Reach banner. Different Spartans with different weapons. For me, that is the support I believe in for the class theory to be real. And how this will work with the BR: well, there is always some sort of riflemen in class based games.
