(you somehow know we started at Halo3 or 2? I started at halo 1, loved campaign AND multiplayer)

are you banned yet?

anyway, i agree with skibur. I introduced halo to my friends during halo 2, and they loved it. so they got copies, got halo 3 in 07, and we all preorded ODST. ive been playing since the humble beginnings and I loved it. they hated it.

I love how people think Firefight is a rip off of Horde mode when Bungie had a survival type mode years ago in Marathon.

every one thinks it because horde was the first popular survival co-op game type that doesn't suck balls.

what do you mean by "popular" exactly? counter-strike was the most popular computer game a few years back and its widely played zombie mod was awesome.

And btw, to stay on topic. odst is worth the price 2 times over in my opinion

Its because there is no major competitive MP element. Luckily I think the campaign is better or I would be upset. Halo 3's campaign I only beat for achievements.
You just summed it up exactly.

Competitiveness and achievements. That is all that the current generation of gamers seem to care about.

Bungie made this game as it is. People need to quit expecting it to be what they want it to be.

Well some people are just naturally competitive and I think if your an MP fan, you have to consider whether ODST is the right decision. I'm competitive at school and games etc.

However, I think, the vast majority of people who don't like are just not going to purchase ODST, rather then complain. I suppose that fits in not expecting it to be what they want it to be.

So far ODST seems like the best Halo campaign I have played, the one thing for cutting the MP is that the campaign actually seems to be good. However, I would have liked a competitive ODST MP, that would have made it a "complete package".

But I understood what I was buying, and I bought ODST mainly because I've been playing Halo for 4 years now.
I understand if people realise that this game is not what they want to play and do not buy it, but to buy it and complain on the forums about how much they don't like it... That's just like a spoilt two year old who throws a tantrum because he didn't get the flavour of ice cream he wanted. Makes me sick.

Halo 3 ODST isn't Halo 3 multiplayer. If a MP fan bought the game and didn't like it, they should just say, "Ah well, it's not for me" and get over it.

If I order a meal and it doesn't end up being as tasty as I thought it would be, I'm not going to storm into the kitchen and rant at the chef because he couldn't cater specifically to my tastes.

i haven't even played firefight yet, i've only played the campaign. And i still think the game is brilliant.

That is true, but the real problem is those individuals probably didn't research ODST that well and just picked it up because it said Halo 3 on it.

Luckily I think if you are an MP fan you can grab ODST for $40 from numerous places, and if you are an MP fan you should have no problem trading in your Halo 3 disc. This makes ODST a $20 purchase, which is worth it just for the map pack, as well as you get a bonus game.

I do agree however, that the vast majority of complaints are coming from MP fans such as myself, and not from SP fans. I think ODST is the first game to return to CE style, focus on campaign. Which makes a better campaign, but no MP that will last for 3 years.

Exactly. It's perfect for MP fans, but they seem to be the ones with the most complaints. :/

Just bought my pre-ordered copy of ODST tonight. Picked it up at 12:22 am and quickly drove it home to play. Already had friends lined up to do 4 player co-op. $60.00 for 3 new multiplayer maps that will be free in another 2 months, and a 5 hour campaign... That doesn't sound good I thought, but then this is Halo and we have all of the previous titles and loved each one. That list includes Halo Wars... Therefore I thought that this one has to be good. Long story short, the 4 of us all agreed that this is a terrible game which is chock full of shortcuts and unpolished hogwash. I plan to take my copy back to the store when it opens for my money back! Bungie - This is not worth $60.00 - not even close. This is a crappy game and that is coming from a Halo-fanboy. You guys lost a customer tonight. I won't buy another one of your titles. I am extremely disappointed by this game.

What I have noticed is that people who started their Halo experience playing Halo 3 multiplayer, or even in extremely rare cases, Halo 2 multiplayer, do not like this game.

Basically they are just multiplayer fanboys who can't handle different mechanics or feeling like a noob.

I'd confidently say that the majority of those of us who started out with Halo CE back when it first came out appreciate ODST for what it is.

Personally, I bought ODST for ODST. I doubt I'll even use the second disk at all.

Interesting insight. I tend to agree, though only because I loved the CE campaign, and love ODST.

I see a lot of people somehow trying to equate the length of the game to the cost, which I cannot for the life of me understand. I pay for quality, first and foremost, not for quantity. When I go out to a nice restaurant, I don't expect a 5-gallon bowl of slop for paying a premium price; I expect good food. If I buy tickets to a playoff baseball game, I don't wring my hands hoping the game goes 16 innings; I just want to see the best teams compete. I firmly believe that the quality of the single-player experience in ODST is better than any game to have come out in at least a few years, and in my mind that's absolutely worth $60. Maybe it's a difference in lifestyle philosophies, idk.

You suck!

-blam!- you!
Wow what a wonderful expression. I know you must have put a lot of thought into that. Mommy and Daddy must be so proud of you. Update: I have played Firefight now for about 5 hours or so. Topped 100K points before they finally got me on Normal setting. I enjoyed it. However, was the disk worth $60.00? For me the answer is "No". Especially considering that I have already purchased all of the other Halo 3 map packs. For those of you that think I am a PS3 fanboy, then you are just idiots. I have played over 3 thousand games on this ID alone, not to mention my other ids. In fact I have burned through 3 Halo 3 disks. I am playing my Legendary copy now - the one that came with a Helmet. Actually Halo 3 was my first introduction into the Halo Universe. After playing it I went and purchased Halo 1 and 2. I will play the Beta for Reach before I decide to purchase anymore Bungie games. I am still very disappointed by ODST. As for those of you that think I am a troll, noob, or whatever else your pee-sized brains can dream up. The fact of the matter is that I work for a huge company, and was an international consultant for several years. Now I am also an author, and I am working on my third book. My question is what have you done with your lives? My guess is that you work a blue-collar job, beat your wives, get drunk on the weekend or sleep in your parents basements because you are too lazy or too stupid to get a real job.

YOU'RE STILL ALIVE?!?

Bungie doesn't make the prices. Microsoft does. And like all of the other Halo games, it was good.

The only thing I have to say is...

ODST should have been released standalone for people who didn't want the map pack disc. Simply put, I've paid £40 for £15 of game and £5 worth of maps (since I downloaded all the map packs prior to the release of ODST).

Now, go ahead and say 'THEN Y DID U BUY IT -blam!-' - to which I will simply reply - because I was expecting more from ODST itself. Honestly, 5-6 hours of campaign (with truly awful characters, might I add) and a severely underwhelming Firefight mode is not worth the money I've just handed Bungie.

So clearly, a disc for £20, £25 at the most, with only the ODST campaign and Firefight on it should have been released, and the new Halo maps could have been been distributed via marketplace and via the full content disc we get with ODST.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, and it looks truly stunning but... I can't help but feel slightly cheated.

Now, I fully respect your opinion and everything, but it was kinda dumb for you to post here. First, everyone here is a fanboy or a Uber fanboy, so they will call foul and flame back. Second, I'm sure there is some part of the game that you liked, but now, these kids will most likely continue to flame, so there will be no reasoning involved. So, once again, it was dumb for you to post here without expecting some flaming, but I respect your opinion. (BTW: Halo: ODST, in my opinion, was worth every penny)
