Such a money grab, where is the company that I knew and loved behind this?

Bungie sold out A LONG time ago. MS owns the Halo franchise now. Have you noticed that the series hasn't progressed? The games now are flashbacks or stuff that happened before Halo 3. I think Reach even takes place before Halo 1. Rather than coming up with a new direction for a game set in a timeline post Halo 3, they can just mine what's already there. Before, there was a new Halo game every 3 years. Since 07, there's 3 new games with the Halo name on them. I'd like to think Reach will be good and I def plan on renting ODST again to unlock the beta but I don't have high hopes anymore

This game isn't worth $60.00 dollars. Agreed. Which is why I am selling my copy of Halo 3 for around $30 dollars to buy a copy of this game in a few months (after all the DISC problems and online glitches are smoothed out)

First rule of consumer electronics market - NEVER buy new, NEVER buy when an item is first released.

Probably should re-write your title as
"Halo 3:ODST isn't worth it" Unless firefight is horribly made and the campaign is too boring and tedious.

Punisher, just because this is a Halo 3 forum doesn't mean you should agree with everything Bungie releases. This game has got to be the BIGGEST single mistake Bungie has ever made with Halo. I mean what the -blam!-?? Halo 3: ODST - 3 maps, a recycled Horde mode and not even JUST a team death match playlist. You would have to be brainwashed to agree this game is worth the money, absolutely insane.

edit: oh and I got something to say about firefight, I'm currently watching 2 of my friends (not so good, yet on HEROIC) playing, they have spent over an hour on one choke point on one map. I played the first game of this crap on Heroic and scored a rampage very quickly. This is Zombie/Horde mode, recycled and repackaged bull-blam!-.

$20 6 hour campaign. $10 Mythic Maps 1. $10 Mythic Maps 2. $5 Legendary Maps. $15 Halo 3 multiplayer. It is $60 for those whom have not bought the DLC.

It's only worth $30 for everyone else, and they should either rent the game or buy it on discount.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Halo 3: ODST, as a whole, does not suck by any means. However, its worth fluctuates from person to person. Arguing whether a game is worth $60.00 or not for someone other than yourself is not only incredibly pointless, but also quite ignorantly stupid.

I went into this purchase with the pre-existing notion that ODST would be a significantly shorter campaign experience than previous Halo titles, despite its full retail price. Even after finishing the game in roughly four hours on two-player cooperative mode, I do not regret my purchase. However, I have determined that the content for which I laid down my money was not satisfactory.

Along the end of the game's promotion, representatives of the game shied away from ODST's previously truncated stature, stating it to be a full game of its own, specifically in the game's ViDoc. While I wasn't about to let a sudden, quick-worded change in the game's stature change my suspicions of how the campaign would play, it was a small measure of hope that I was disappointed to see quickly tossed aside.

It is hard to find a proper analogy to how I feel about ODST, but my co-op partner put it quite accurately: The time spent as the Rookie, alone, throughout New Mombasa Streets soon begins to feel like a repetitive, overly-lengthy stage select, with the flashbacks placing importance upon the squadmates themselves, which quickly dissipates later in the game to make room for the true focus of the game's story. It was disjointed rather than symbiotic, and left me feeling very distanced from the game. I wasn't the Rookie. I was just someone watching things unfold, while being along for the ride later on.

Some argue that what the game comes with makes the game worth the purchase, but in the end, it doesn't matter what it comes with. All that matters is why one purchases something. If my local Walgreens was selling their only hair buzzer in a salon kit for $29.99 because it came with several sizes of combs, different oils, and a variety of buzzer attachments, the shaver wouldn't suddenly be any more valuable because of what it is accompanied by. Everything has its own worth, and every individual has their own sense of worth and places value in things of their choosing.

I purchased ODST for the campaign experience, which is the only initial reason that I purchase any Halo game. It was unsatisfactory in a variety of ways, and left me feeling the exact same why that I'd felt when Halo 2 ended.

Firefight is great, and will remain so for the next 40 or so hours of my free XBL period until I run out. If and when I ever resubscribe to XBL, it, and the new maps will prove to be great for hours of fun. However, they are not what dictates how good of a gaming experience this game was for me. They are the combs and the oils that just happen to be in the package with the simply mediocre hair buzzer.

That is my opinion, and it is neither an overly significant one, or a terrible one. It has as much weight as anyone else's, regardless of what Urk or anyone else affiliated with the game says.

I am king!!!

ummm... has anyone played prototype? Thats not worth 60 dollars and everyone else complains about ODST when they throw in all the halo 3 maps, Firefight, new campaign and a beta pass to Halo reach. wtf do you people want more? death match with odst weapons would not work, just play the prepare to drop game type and its just god awful.

Hahaha, now that I think of it, maybe Microsoft does show a little bit of its colour through halo. Microsoft died to me after XP Professional.

But really, Bungie made the game, Microsoft stuck the label on it I know. It just sucks because 30 bucks cheaper and this would be a sweet deal or maybe Orange Box set too high of a standard.

These forums have the worst staff ever. I've me hundreds of staff on large sites and been one myself dozens of times. And never can I say that I've ever met any other staff members this rude and ignorant.

Wow. You're such a crybaby. It was your decision to spend $60 on this game. Bungie didn't grab you by the balls and force you to buy it. You're mommy and daddy spoiled you so you could get it.

Nobody cares that you hate this game. Nobody cares that you're going to return this game. Nobody cares about you.

And honestly, what are you trying to accomplish by telling us you hate ODST you little pre-pubescent attention whore?

I'm not the one crying about this. :)
I'm just a designer that want's to be as pro as bungie one day. And if I stick myself in the shoes of one of the Bungie pplz who spent forever making this game, I wouldn't want to have to put up with this kind of stuff. :/

Your post seemed a little too angry, hopefully you don't make those kind of outbursts when or if people question your game.

I thoroughly enjoy the single player for ODST, although a couple things here and there kinda irk me a bit. Considering how short the game is with such little content on the actual disc, I wonder where these memory issues came into being.

I get why the BR was removed. It would've been such a go-to weapon that there wouldn't be a need for any other weapon, and that's not the feel Bungie was going for. I like it, having those mad cap scrambles for a weapon to suit my situation in the middle of a firefight, although I'll admit I often turn to the needler and sticky grenades for anything that's not a grunt or jackal.

I like the fact that I have to look around the corner to see what's there before running out, if it's just a brute and a few grunts, fine, but three brtes, two jackals and a dozen grunts all covered by an Engineer? Probably not worth it.

  • 09.24.2009 10:27 PM PDT

every one is complaining about the price, that it does not have multi-player, and that it is prior to halo 3. This game was created with a different platform. Open area and can roam and not tied to one area. It is a big step to take any game in. This in its own way has created both the price and the multi-player aspect. Bungie should get paid and pay their employers for the work they did. The multi-player propably could not be added due to the fact of the openness and the squad based game structure. With the story, it is sort of hard to continue when you only have one aspect of the story. Imagine watching Iron Man without the scene where he is kidnapped and gets his magnet for the metal that is in his veins. You would be looking at the movie asking how did he get that and how was it made. Bungie is doing the same thing, expanding the storyline so they can potentially create an game that is post halo 3.

I must say TheEasy1JM I tip my hat to you for having the bravery , or foolishness whichever, to post such a topic here. What with all the "Call a whambulance" [very original btw], "YOU TROLL!", and "Nobody gives two craps what you think". A very admirable move, in a biased forum of course.

Most of your arguments are well thought out and all of them have no contradiction towards each other, and I agree with you that ODST was not worth $60. I can honestly say I would not pay full price for only one feature of any game not even GOW2 Horde which I still have fun in to this day. The claims of buying ODST soley for FireFight, better be a complete exaggeration to get a point across. The maps included are a great plus, but get this, only for newcomers.

Look it's very simple to understand what has happend here, those who are stuck on the bungie train pay as much attention as your brain washed mind permits. Ok so Bungie released the Legendary map pack, besides ruining one of the best maps of CE, it was alright. Here's the tricky part though they made it required to get the full experience of multiplayer. Ok so they cornered a lot of people into buying that DLC, as if that wasn't a dirty enough buisness scheme, they release the Mythic MP. Looks like the CEO of Microsoft will get that island after all, he just needs to make this MP required as well. So now you need to also buy a MP with a map [Sandbox] that looks like it was designed by second graders. And to put the icing on the crap cake they release ODST with the same maps you just spent $20+ on and Halo averaging $30-$60 on, now you have to buy a "completely new game" for 60 more dollars , true halo fans have just spent $140 plus $20 more dollars for future DLC and don't forget the Heroic MP that many inpatient fans spent on. So let's see $170 worst case for those true Halo fanboys and for reasons not known to man, they feel like the price is just? Might as well start wearing tight purple pants and leather jackets and go buy the complete Guitar Hero set. This can be completely overlooked if you're new to Halo though.

Let's just face facts, no matter what intellectual level a person is on, they could never convince the people on this forum that they got one pulled over on them, even on a big time scale like this. Heck I wouldn't be suprised if Bungie killed all their parents, burned there homes down, beat them senseless, and smashed their hopes and dreams only to be awarded for presistant "effort" to bring them down. I do believe these people think it's a real good game, but because of what bungie has done to these people. Bungie's popularity is so big that it makes people believe it's a good game, like mind tricks. When really it's just about or not more than subpar.

Now about the actual gameplay of this game. The drastic change from a run and gun game to a more strategic type was very risky and took some getting used to but for the most part worked out. As for FF nothing new there but as much as it has been used in many games it's always a fun addition, and in ODST this was no exception. I feel that they were trying to get past the oversaturated colors from halo 3 so much so that some parts were close to unplayable withouth the night vision, they could have simply toned the colors down a bit. Also the lack of not being able to dual wield is almost as ridiculous as not having guns with flashlights in doom 3. These ODST can walk faster than the Chief with the detachable weapons but somehow can not endure the strength to pick up two pistols? Also I know this game is its own "entity" due to the standards of full games and expansions, but in heart it's an expansion, so shouldn't expansions add more content in game. I mean two new useless weapons? oh yes and the addition, moreover subtraction, of no dual wielding and being an ODST. To conclude the gameplay, I do respect Bungie on making the game harder to beat than previous titles however.

Overall this is a repackaged Halo 3 with some modifications. For those who haven't tried ODST but have played H3 let's put it like this: Pretend it's halo 3 but, you die easier, it's less colorful, if you run and gun you're dead (even in normal), and you are not a super soldier, the rest remains the same. What can I say about ODST? Well I don't think this game is horrible, at most it's a good game at worst a disappointment. I did not have any expectations for this game I just wanted to play it and see how it was now I know. Now what do I think of ODST price wise? Well for the hardships all the Halo fans have gone through It's complete and utter bull crap and a ripoff. Those new to Halo it's a very good welcome and is worth close to every dime. But truthfully there's not many new people coming into the Halo experience. The funny thing about my post is that I really do feel for the Halo community for spending so much money on a single part of this franchise, only to be frowned upon and flamed. I like Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, heck even parts of ODST are enjoyable (Halo Wars was not to my likings, I'm a PC RTS'er), but I'm not in a state where I can't think for myself and see when I am getting ripped off. If you can't get over Halo and have been turned into a zombie I am sorry for wasting your time and I hope you enjoy ODST until Reach. But if there is still even a hint of sanity inside of anyone in this forum, please heed my words and notice a hoodwink when you see one. I'm not trying to get you guys to have an empiphany and demand a refund or not buy the game, I simply ask of you to notice the pure dog s**t Bungie or Microsoft (whoever the culprit) is making you go through. Excuse my French but it is more than necessary.

I would like to close my opinion with two things. One- for those few of you who think this is the best game ever (even best game of the franchise), I am sorry that you grew up or never experienced any other games, I truly am. There should be a donation program to give you guys money to buy a wider variety of games, that or you're also brainwashed and sorry for wasting your time once again. And two- for those of you less mature, sorry I mean "witty", that will say something along the lines of "who gives a crap about what you think" or "go cry somewhere else you cry baby, whiner, troll, ect.". I'm entitled to my opinion and so are you and any negative opinions are worthless to me, IMO of course

Thank you for reading my novel for those intelligent enough to get even 1/3 through
