I must say TheEasy1JM I tip my hat to you for having the bravery , or foolishness whichever, to post such a topic here. What with all the "Call a whambulance" [very original btw], "YOU TROLL!", and "Nobody gives two craps what you think". A very admirable move, in a biased forum of course.

Most of your arguments are well thought out and all of them have no contradiction towards each other, and I agree with you that ODST was not worth $60. I can honestly say I would not pay full price for only one feature of any game not even GOW2 Horde which I still have fun in to this day. The claims of buying ODST soley for FireFight, better be a complete exaggeration to get a point across. The maps included are a great plus, but get this, only for newcomers.

Look it's very simple to understand what has happend here, those who are stuck on the bungie train pay as much attention as your brain washed mind permits. Ok so Bungie released the Legendary map pack, besides ruining one of the best maps of CE, it was alright. Here's the tricky part though they made it required to get the full experience of multiplayer. Ok so they cornered a lot of people into buying that DLC, as if that wasn't a dirty enough buisness scheme, they release the Mythic MP. Looks like the CEO of Microsoft will get that island after all, he just needs to make this MP required as well. So now you need to also buy a MP with a map [Sandbox] that looks like it was designed by second graders. And to put the icing on the crap cake they release ODST with the same maps you just spent $20+ on and Halo averaging $30-$60 on, now you have to buy a "completely new game" for 60 more dollars , true halo fans have just spent $140 plus $20 more dollars for future DLC and don't forget the Heroic MP that many inpatient fans spent on. So let's see $170 worst case for those true Halo fanboys and for reasons not known to man, they feel like the price is just? Might as well start wearing tight purple pants and leather jackets and go buy the complete Guitar Hero set. This can be completely overlooked if you're new to Halo though.

Let's just face facts, no matter what intellectual level a person is on, they could never convince the people on this forum that they got one pulled over on them, even on a big time scale like this. Heck I wouldn't be suprised if Bungie killed all their parents, burned there homes down, beat them senseless, and smashed their hopes and dreams only to be awarded for presistant "effort" to bring them down. I do believe these people think it's a real good game, but because of what bungie has done to these people. Bungie's popularity is so big that it makes people believe it's a good game, like mind tricks. When really it's just about or not more than subpar.

Now about the actual gameplay of this game. The drastic change from a run and gun game to a more strategic type was very risky and took some getting used to but for the most part worked out. As for FF nothing new there but as much as it has been used in many games it's always a fun addition, and in ODST this was no exception. I feel that they were trying to get past the oversaturated colors from halo 3 so much so that some parts were close to unplayable withouth the night vision, they could have simply toned the colors down a bit. Also the lack of not being able to dual wield is almost as ridiculous as not having guns with flashlights in doom 3. These ODST can walk faster than the Chief with the detachable weapons but somehow can not endure the strength to pick up two pistols? Also I know this game is its own "entity" due to the standards of full games and expansions, but in heart it's an expansion, so shouldn't expansions add more content in game. I mean two new useless weapons? oh yes and the addition, moreover subtraction, of no dual wielding and being an ODST. To conclude the gameplay, I do respect Bungie on making the game harder to beat than previous titles however.

Overall this is a repackaged Halo 3 with some modifications. For those who haven't tried ODST but have played H3 let's put it like this: Pretend it's halo 3 but, you die easier, it's less colorful, if you run and gun you're dead (even in normal), and you are not a super soldier, the rest remains the same. What can I say about ODST? Well I don't think this game is horrible, at most it's a good game at worst a disappointment. I did not have any expectations for this game I just wanted to play it and see how it was now I know. Now what do I think of ODST price wise? Well for the hardships all the Halo fans have gone through It's complete and utter bull crap and a ripoff. Those new to Halo it's a very good welcome and is worth close to every dime. But truthfully there's not many new people coming into the Halo experience. The funny thing about my post is that I really do feel for the Halo community for spending so much money on a single part of this franchise, only to be frowned upon and flamed. I like Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, heck even parts of ODST are enjoyable (Halo Wars was not to my likings, I'm a PC RTS'er), but I'm not in a state where I can't think for myself and see when I am getting ripped off. If you can't get over Halo and have been turned into a zombie I am sorry for wasting your time and I hope you enjoy ODST until Reach. But if there is still even a hint of sanity inside of anyone in this forum, please heed my words and notice a hoodwink when you see one. I'm not trying to get you guys to have an empiphany and demand a refund or not buy the game, I simply ask of you to notice the pure dog s**t Bungie or Microsoft (whoever the culprit) is making you go through. Excuse my French but it is more than necessary.

I would like to close my opinion with two things. One- for those few of you who think this is the best game ever (even best game of the franchise), I am sorry that you grew up or never experienced any other games, I truly am. There should be a donation program to give you guys money to buy a wider variety of games, that or you're also brainwashed and sorry for wasting your time once again. And two- for those of you less mature, sorry I mean "witty", that will say something along the lines of "who gives a crap about what you think" or "go cry somewhere else you cry baby, whiner, troll, ect.". I'm entitled to my opinion and so are you and any negative opinions are worthless to me, IMO of course

Thank you for reading my novel for those intelligent enough to get even 1/3 through

good god, you can dislike the game if you want, but calm down and stop throwing desperate insults at everyone who honestly enjoy this game, and who like the halo franchise.

btw, if bungie hadn't made some of the game types legendary / mythic only, then nobody would be able to play the maps on line, as there would always be someone in the game who didn't own the map packs.

aaaanyway, IMO ODST was awesome, i loved the campaign and firefight is amazing, well worth the money.

Lol whats with all these people calling TheEasy1JM a whiner?!?
i mean seriously is it that hard for you people to comprehend that some of us (including me) figure this game wasn't worth the 60 dollar pricetag?

I love how people think Firefight is a rip off of Horde mode when Bungie had a survival type mode years ago in Marathon.

I also love how so many people don't realize how many games had survival modes before Gears of War 2. Too many young gamers -blam!-ing about things they don't understand.

Survival modes are my favorite, add a nice element of ever increasing challenge into the game.

Its because there is no major competitive MP element. Luckily I think the campaign is better or I would be upset. Halo 3's campaign I only beat for achievements.
You just summed it up exactly.

Competitiveness and achievements. That is all that the current generation of gamers seem to care about.

Bungie made this game as it is. People need to quit expecting it to be what they want it to be.
This. I'm a 32 year old gamer. What happened to playing a game just to play it?? I'm personally looking forward to the campaign experience more than anything. When I get a new game I usually just play through it and enjoy it. Later I go back and do achievements.

To the OP, it's ok you don't like it. It's your opinion but you had to have expected some of this backlash.

  • 09.25.2009 9:15 AM PDT

a real halo fan boy would see and appreciate the similarities to halo CE. Guess you fail. oh, and i got all the maps when i bought the ODST. A fan would realize that all the MP halo3 maps would be released with the next game. Failed again. Sorry you don'tlike the game. lots do.

Free speech is a two-way street, if you can't handle the backlash for stating your opinions in a public forum then maybe you shouldn't speak out. No one's going to just pat him on the back for stating his mind and leave it at that if they strongly disagree.

firefight alone is worth the price tag odst commands. at release it's about 1/3 cheaper than any other new release cough*cod6*cough.

i'd have happily paied full price just for firefight.

-blam!- you. Call of Duty is 5 times better than ANYTHING Bungie could pull off. I have yet to play the game for a decent amount of time but from what I've heard, ODST is a truly -blam!- game.

When most of the community is saying that Firefight and Campaign lag like a -blam!- at 2 frames per second and I've seen a video of it, yeah, I'm going to base my judgment of the game off that. $60 for a game that is merely a repeat of another game with a short campaign and horde mode is pathetic Bungie.

Most of the main community on this site is teenage whine-factories who have been raised in the information and feel they are entitled to have everything catered to their individual needs. Basing any opinion on the mindless droll that collectively oozes from their minds is both shortsighted and foolish.

Of course Firefight will have its lag moments. Coordinating the amount of AI and other things over a network will be subject to more lag than you get in your typical matchmade game. If the expense ain't worth it to you, based on your experience and research, then don't buy it. Capitalism is a beautiful thing.

Just bought my pre-ordered copy of ODST tonight. Picked it up at 12:22 am and quickly drove it home to play. Already had friends lined up to do 4 player co-op. $60.00 for 3 new multiplayer maps that will be free in another 2 months, and a 5 hour campaign... That doesn't sound good I thought, but then this is Halo and we have all of the previous titles and loved each one. That list includes Halo Wars... Therefore I thought that this one has to be good. Long story short, the 4 of us all agreed that this is a terrible game which is chock full of shortcuts and unpolished hogwash. I plan to take my copy back to the store when it opens for my money back! Bungie - This is not worth $60.00 - not even close. This is a crappy game and that is coming from a Halo-fanboy. You guys lost a customer tonight. I won't buy another one of your titles. I am extremely disappointed by this game.

Your first problem was playing ODST on co-op off the bat. Think about the setting. Dark, and lonely detective noir... Playing it on co-op bungles that.

And yes, in theory, you CAN beat the game in five hours, but then you'd be doing yourself and the game a disservice. Look for things, savor your surroundings, the features, and the battles.

Put the game on Legendary, or even Heroic, ALONE. You can't go in fresh, like you should have the first time, but that's because you're a moron.

By the way, of all of the Halo 3 maps to come to DLC, only the Heroic maps are free, after a struggle with Microsoft, WHO has a stron reputation for not liking to give out DLC for free (ask Valve). And the Cold Storage map, which was fanfare, for Bungie day. So no, those new maps wont be free.

what's disappointing? i think this is the second best halo game (halo 1 being the first). and if you only play multiplayer you shouldn't have bought it. bungie strictly said it was a CAMPAIGN.

personally i think it goes
Halo:Combat Evolved
Halo 3: ODST
Halo 2 (better campaign)+ Halo 3 (better mp) [tie]
halo wars

Just to Remind this thread creator is that you forgot LOT'S of stuff about the game.

First, was the new features of Covenant battle ships destroying the city(I was...it was... so cool...) and other such things like the VISR, wich is in my opinion a cool thing, and more Voices from the grunts and Brutes( A Grunt said on FireFight, to me"You Killed YapYap'' it was hilarious when I notice it was a grunt from Halo:Harvest novel)
PS: I cant believe that Joseph Staten makes the voices of grunts(LoL).
Second, its the FireFight, wich for me was cool, and of showing you how to survive long enough.
Third, are/is the New halo Mythic MapPack, But the skulls where relatively easy to find including Heretic and Longshore(I also like the Dhingy, but not that the fall to thebottom water) Citadel was hard to find, And I found it in 2 minutes aft been new to the map.
Second is my Virgil, that finalyl bungie showed the engineer in the halo games(By bungie, not by Microsoft). Engineers in my opinion are so cute and cuddly, including Buck.
