Campaign really only takes 3-4 hours on Legendary, 2 hours or less on Co-op.

  • 10.23.2009 6:35 AM PDT

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

I do agree on some of that. Greatly. Back in December of '08, when ODST was called RECON, I was thinking this game would be awesome. The music was, but firefight gets repetitive and the campaign feels more of a chore than a joy, like Halo 1,2, and 3. I did enjoy the ending though.

But you forgot the Reach Beta! HOPEFULLY if that isn't messed up...if it is, then Bungie has lost another customer, halo fanboy too.

Just bought my pre-ordered copy of ODST tonight. Picked it up at 12:22 am and quickly drove it home to play. Already had friends lined up to do 4 player co-op. $60.00 for 3 new multiplayer maps that will be free in another 2 months, and a 5 hour campaign... That doesn't sound good I thought, but then this is Halo and we have all of the previous titles and loved each one. That list includes Halo Wars... Therefore I thought that this one has to be good. Long story short, the 4 of us all agreed that this is a terrible game which is chock full of shortcuts and unpolished hogwash. I plan to take my copy back to the store when it opens for my money back! Bungie - This is not worth $60.00 - not even close. This is a crappy game and that is coming from a Halo-fanboy. You guys lost a customer tonight. I won't buy another one of your titles. I am extremely disappointed by this game.

Look into a mirror. The guy you see is a -blam!- loser!

Just enjoying Reach for what it is! No complaints here!

This EXPANSION is great. You'll not find another EXPANSION near as sweet out there. If these folks complaining are looking for something that takes more time to complete the campaign and such, they're not looking for an EXPANSION, they're looking for a full blown game.

IMO, ODST is highly entertaining with both the campaign and firefight which provides endless challenges.

Quick question, has anyone been successful in dropping a Phantom in firefight?

And who DOESNT enjoy looking at ridiculous numbers after a two hour firefight and looking at crazy medals like hammer sprees and vehicular manslaughters?

Can you get that kind of satisfaction out of any other EXPANSION?

And the Mythic maps are pretty dang sweet, especially if you enjoy SWAT games. I wish I saw Citadel and Heretic on SWAT more.

And Im stoked for the first time we see a Longshore variant on Infection.

As far as I'm concerned, the EXPANSION was worth the 60bucks and the Halo series has only kept me even more inclined to stick around for other titles to offer even more stimulating gameplay and action-sacked multiplayer experiences.

Shadowed Ascent please do not take offence at this. I do agree with you on alot of your points. There is just one thing I want to point out to you and everybody else in this thread.

Define a "full game".

If your going by amount of time spent in campaign then alot of games would not qualify.

If I really wanted to I can beat 95% of my games in about 4 hours each.

It took me 5 and a half hours to beat Assassin's Creed. About 3 hours for Mass Effect.

Simply put, you can not judge a "full game" by the amount of time spent playing it. That is because the time it takes to go through the game is different for every player. It differs by how you decide to actually play the game.

Then you get into the issue of if it has multiplayer or not. ODST does not have a multiplayer option, only Co-op. Too Human has no multiplayer option, same for Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, God of War, Little Big Planet, KotoR and many others. The addition of multiplayer options is a feature but it is not required for a "full game".

You also have games that simply do not have a campaign period. Look at Battlefield 2142, or even the majority of the Battlefield series. There is also Sins of a Solar Empire. It has no campaign. That just names a few of them (I do not own many). Are those to be excluded from the "full game" classification?

Also you can get into the size of the data on the storage medium. For instance, Zelda: A Link to the Past is one of my favorite games of all time. It requires a whole SNES cartridge to store that game. Put it on a modern CD or DVD and it bairly will take up any room. Does that mean it is no longer a "full game"?

Better yet, lets go with a more modern game. Diablo 2. Put that on a modern DVD and it doesnt take up much room. Is it no longer a "full game"?

I have seen expansions that are longer than their original game. Take a look at the Spellforce series of games. Those have more content than the original, does that make them "full games"? Or does it reduce the original game down from a "full game" to an "expansion"?

Honestly if the developer and producer feel that there is enough effort put into the product, as well as a level of content they can claim any game is a "full game".

And yes I know you want to counter with the "Bungie said it was an expansion" excuse. Unfortunately you seem to either dismiss or have missed out on one of the interviews. They clearly state that Halo 3: ODST started out as and expansion but developed into a "full game". So it kind of makes your point, well pointless really.

Is this going over your heads?

You best be trolling.
Or have down syndrome, either way.

For 60$, you get a game, a shatload of maps for free, some not even available otherwise. A new campaign. Firefight. The opportunity to unlock Recon. A free pass to the Reach Beta when its done.

And more.

Stop your whining.

AND an unlockable character if you pre-ordered... ;]

Ok VaultingFrog. Heres some facts Id love for you to deny

Xbox 360 FULL GAMES start at 60 dollars. This is for FULL GAMES mind you.

Expansions for games start at 10 dollars. ODST is a self proclaimed EXPANSION. What makes it worth the extra 50? I think the 10 dollar expansions for Fallout 3 had just as much content, and were twice as fun. Keep in mind, THEY WERE 10 DOLLARS!

What was so great about the campaign? The story was iffy, hard to follow and didnt really leave you feeling anything. The campaign consisted of running around a dark city OVER and OVER to find stupid beacons. The running around in this game was awful. And who wants to play as a weak old ODST. Exactly what about this campaign was good? Do you enjoy running everywhere? Was it too much to ask for a mongoose here and there?

Bottom line is, this expansion WAS NOT WORTH 60. As a matter of fact, NO EXPANSION is worth 60. When GTA4s expansions were announced at 20 dollars a piece, I thought, who are these idiots trying to rip me off for another 10 dollars? Sure, the content might be fun and exciting, but is it really worth a third of the cost of the game itself. Hell no.

That being said, was ODST, AN EXPANSION!!!!!!, worth full price as any other game. Hell no. This game would have been better suited for a 20 dollar price tag, MAX!

  • 10.24.2009 2:11 PM PDT

I agree this game should have stayed DLC, no worth 60.00. Campaign is trash, I feel like iv'e played it before and firefight would be good is it was more like -blam!- Zombies, that is how to make a survival gametype no Firefight.

  • 10.24.2009 2:34 PM PDT

Beast Mode On - an uprising group that you should check out.

Don't feed the trolls.

Death by Bungie.

Dont Worry, Second is Always the First Loser ;)

This is one person's opinion. Personally, I LOVE the game. Except they need to update firefight. They need to make the skulls turn on randomly, and actually generate a random wave. Imageine what it would be like with Three hunters and a few chieftains topped off with an engineer?

Lets stop here for a moment. A "full game" is decided by the developer as well as the producer. Not the player. They say its a full game then tough cookies for you, its a full game.

ODST was originally developed to be an expansion, which was then later revised to being a "full game" according the following video: Link. At about 0:23 they state that they made a "full game". That right there blows your idea out of the water. Sorry come again soon.

Ah so now you want to argue personal preferences and issues. That really degrades your points as everybody has different personal preferences and issues with this game or for any game for that matter.

The story for me was fantastic. I enjoyed the characters significantly, each seeming human (more than what any of the other Halo characters did for me) with their own personality quirks.

Going from clue to clue and seeing how things unfolded was exciting for me. It showed the fight for New Mombasa from several different viewpoints, each person going through different trials than the other. I find that to be much better than just a single viewpoint showing just a small amount of the battle rather than the more wide spread view in ODST.

And what is wrong with running? Probably 50% of the other Halo games involved you running on foot from point to point. Doesnt that piss you off to? Or are you just going to overlook that since your playing as a Spartan just like everybody else (not litterally everybody mind you)?

I would rather play as a New Mombasa cop instead of a Spartan to be honest. I cant stand Spartans any longer. For too long those overrated tin cans took the limelight from the men and woman who really fought the war. The men and woman who fought on countless fields of battle and died to keep humanity safe. Realisticly the Spartans as a whole played only a very small and limited part in the war. Only Spartan-117 did anything truely significant during the war and yet it was at the very end and he only succeeded with Marine/ODST/Elite support.

And there are plenty of vehicles to be found in ODST. You have Warthogs (all varients) in the flashbacks as well as Costal Highway. Scorpion tanks are plenty to be found in the game. Banshees, Phantoms, Ghosts, Choppers and the Mongoose all appear in the game. Hell there are 4 Mongooses to be found in the Mombasa Streets level alone. Not to mention the 2 to be found on Costal Highway on Legendary.

I agree that no expansion is worth $60 from me. However the bottom line is that Halo 3: ODST is not an expansion at all. It has been named a "full game" by both Bungie and Microsoft. If you dont like on it then tough cookies.

Thats because the developer wanted them to be expansions. Each of those expansions had more than enough content to warrent the title of "full game" in my opinion. But its what the developer/producer wanted. If you didnt see it before please re-read my post again as I clearly outline cases such as this.

Again, get over it. Both Bungie and Microsoft have deemed Halo 3: ODST to be a full game. I have already given you proof of such. So stop crying over something that you can not change. If you dont like the price then I suggest you dont spend your money on it.

But it doesnt really matter to me, its your money not mine. I for one got what I paid for and am happy about it.

  • 10.24.2009 2:42 PM PDT

My honor student can beat up your honor student.

Alrighty, OP, that is your opinion, and I respect it. You go return your copy of ODST, in the meantime I'll be having fun playing it and using it to it's full potential after I play through the campaign and not just stop when I suck at firefight and cannot deal with it, forcing me to go onto B-net and complain about how it sucks.

Again, I completely respect your opinion.

On a related side-note, I think it's funny how the OP's profile shows he has never played ODST online, when he said he played 4-player Online co-op. Funny.

I personally don't like the game either. I was expecting more from the multiplayer because it was a new game of Halo. So I was excited to play, but all it was was a stupid updated version of the Halo 3 multiplayer. Not worth my $60.00

  • 10.24.2009 8:33 PM PDT

Failure is too an option.

I thouroughly enjoyed ODST, and considering the fact that I haz no moneys the Mythic disk blew my socks off (or was i wearing sandals?). Overall, I was quite impressed. So if you're going to whine, we'll call a whaaaaaaambulance and take you to the hospital, and they'll and up "accidentally" killing you, and nobody will file for malpractice because nobody cares about a pointless little whiner. Ha and so there.
