I agree. Epically low innovation. The only new things in ODST are three new maps, you could say that released as a pack they are worth 10 dollars, but that is just microsoft forcing people into a corner, without spending that ten dollars you are forced out of all of the good playlists. It's ridiculous that they forced people into the map packs and now ODST making Halo 3 which you purchased for 60 dollars worthless without dropping 10 dollars every few months (not to mention the xbox live subscription, in which you pay microsoft who, shockingly, provides no real service) and squeezing the money out of you. In reality there is no way in hell that the original mythic pack was worth 10 bucks, orbital was OK, sandtrap was good, and assembly sucked ass.
Firefight is a horde mode, it's been done before. They were cheap and just recycled areas of the campaign; which incidentally, not being designed for horde mode, have all sorts of easy exploits. They were even too lazy to make matchmaking. So now when I want to play firefight I have to go online and troll -blam!- forums for "friends" who I don't know and who half of the time are horrible at halo, when there are enough
online to play with that is.
The campaign's story is just flat out LAME. it's shorter than any other before it, the story is so much less interesting and developed than any halo before it. And there is ONE new enemy, to compensate for that they excluded one of the most interesting enemies from the halo franchise. BACKTRACKING.
There is one "new weapon"... a pistol, and don't say SMG, it's just silenced.
The whole game is run on a OLD ENGINE, without graphical improvements, the faces of the characters are just shockingly ugly, and everything else is just tired from Halo 3.
They bundled remnants from an old game and made some generic maps. They deserve no credit for giving me something I already have, by giving me something that they had to put NO new work into; And as I said before they are trying to use it to force me into buying the game by closing playlists to those who don't.
The reach beta is a DEMO, A.K.A. AN AD, and we don't even know if it will be any good at all, nor how long we will have access to it.
The fact that is was made in a year doesn't defend it, if they made it in a year and it was crap it means that they should have put more time into making it. They made an error in publishing it after a year.
There is no way that you are telling me that 3 maps that are just repackaged old maps from halo 2 with 0 effort put in, a recycled unoriginal, game type that doesn't even use new environments, a short campaign with a boring storyline and a single, new, exceedingly lame enemy, all running on an old engine, all rushed into a years development is worth $30 let alone $60. It doesn't matter that microsoft priced it, it's still crap, if you would like to transfer that anger far be it from me to prevent you. Maybe it could have made a B grade DLC pack.
Bungie is falling downhill FAST. I used to practically warship them. I've been on the forums since before halo 2. And now they are ruining all of that for me. I think Bungie betrayed us all with this crap. And all of the fanboys who bash complaints obviously lack any objectivity, believe me when I say I was a bigger fanboy than any of you.
And that people say that we shouldn't post complaints here are just bizarre. Bungie cheated us out of our money, and if you want to say it was Microsoft's fault this is where we can post complaints.
Edit: Oh, and I forgot, the new maps are just -blam!- unoriginal remakes of something bungie already did and is just repackaging.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying. However, the problem here is not Bungie, its Microsoft. They control everything Halo. You should not be bashing bungie for putting out a game add-on. People are screaming for more halo and saying 3 years is too long of a wait. Now they made one as a side project and people are complaining because its not ridiculous like the other games. Maybe thats because they are just doing a game add-on for Halo 3 and its not their main project. They said that it would not be full price because it is not a full game. Microsoft is the one in charge of pricing, not bungie. Bungie and microsoft have not seen eye to eye in regards to a lot of decisions pertaining to halo. This is just another example of it. If anyone actually researched what they were getting with odst they would have realized that it is not the traditional halo experience and everything was turned down a notch for this game. I feel like by pricing this so high and making it seem like one of bungies 'new games' microsoft will lose a lot of people for halo reach, even though that is the game that everyone should be looking forward too.
Really funny to me how you guys keep making excuses for Bungie as if you were defending your sister's honor. Why not let Bungie speak for themselves? Why hasn't Bungie released anything for putting this crap out? I personally would like an apology. For all of you Bungie-Kool-Aid drinkers that say, look at all the time they put into the game... You all live at home so I'll use an analogy that you may understand. If your mother roasted the Thanksgiving turkey for 5 days until it ended up looking like shoe leather. Would you eat it and say how good it was because she spent such a long time making it? Hardly. What we are talking about here boys, is quality. Which Halo ODST is sorely lacking in.
