The most prolific thing I believe Bungie can do with multiplayer in Reach (outside of NATAL) is to introduce classes: ODSTs, Spartans, Brutes, Hunters, Elites, etc. Give them all different HUDs, give them each set starting weapons, and set certain advantages and disadvantages to picking certain characters based on speed, jumping height, starting endurance vs regenerative shields, size of target (hit boxes), visibility, visors, etc. IE, the Elites are invisible, but the ODSTs can see their heat signature.

It would encourage people to play as a team and play roles on the team, like a football game. You have your defensive characters protecting the quarterback (the base), while your runners carry the ball (the bomb) to the goal.

It's less to do with the desire to make the juggernaut a Hunter (and the infected, actually infected with Flood) and more about people creating strategies based on the makeup of their team, even if their strategy is eight Hunters.

If you were gonna do that you might as well as kill master chief yourself. That would completly destroy the feel of halo and ruin the game forever

Halo is turning into Team Fortress 2 and CoD. what are people thinking? I wouldnt buy a game with the same features as other games but in an other package.

I agree completely, but i dont think that it should be part of the halo series, just an off game. If it was part of the series it would make many halo 3 story followers very angry.

It would be better if we would all be Spartans (or Elites) with different physizues and strengths/weaknesses, as described in the novel. They would be based on the Spartans from campaign most likely, who would probably be based on the Spartans in the novels.

From left to right. Novel Spartan = Reach Spartan = Class.

Sam = Unknown = Support
Kelly = Spartan-320 = Recon
John = Spartan-259 = Assault
Kurt = Unknown = Technician
Linda = Unknown = Sniper

They would all have their own strengths/weakness/abilities which balance out their spawn weapons. The maps would be better off larger if this was to happen as classes on something small wouldn't work too well.

They would all be balanced by Bungie and not customizable, so it would be balanced.

  • 09.22.2009 6:14 AM PDT

not to mention, how the hell are you goonna make the cheif balanced to an elite or ODST or somone, the cheif is a spartan, they kick EVERYONES ass anything else would be stupid and ruin the whole concept of a spartan, and if spartans stay powerful then it will be unbalanced.

If the system you speak of was implemented, this could not be considered Halo multiplayer.

If you have a complaint about the game, just take a step back and remeber how lucky you really are to even be in possesion of it when compared to the millions of people suffering around the world with not even a roof over their heads.

Classes are bad. Allow for some deep customization, yes, but classes are stifling.

Correct. It would be Halo Reach multiplayer. Seriously, give it up. This is Halo Reach, its not Halo 1, 2, or 3. Its not a part of the trilogy or story arc. Its a new game. This is the perfect opportunity for new gameplay.

thats not a very good point...
halo: reach is the prologue to halo ce(not a new game... it actually is part of the storyline) so it would have to be the same gameplay. the halo multiplayer has its own style, and i feel has much more intense gameplay than cod or tf2. therefore, it would be irrational and contradictory to the storyline and previous gameplay to change the multiplayer with classes and such. stooping down to cod or tf2 is just not halo gameplay, and i think would make many halo fans angry, as they could just as well play cod or tf2 for classes.

on a side note, it could be possible if it were ONLY in a gameplay type, like a new section called Team Strategy or something. therefore the original gameplay is not affected, but people who would like to play the game like that could if they wanted to.

Ummm.... Halo Wars had different gameplay but it was also a prologue to Halo 1.

And it would not be contradictory to the storyline at all. I t would actually make more sense than it does now. You know that the Spartans were not all jacks of all trades like the Chief, right? They had specialities. CLASSES.

no duh, but that would kill the point of all halo multiplayer gaming. Halo Wars was not mainly by bungie (it was by ensemble studios), and Ensemble wanted a different perspective. this is not the case. if i wanted a game with classes, i would play tf2 or cod. not halo. therefore there is a small chance that people would like the "new multiplayer mode" rather than just playing halo 3. and just to let you know, halo wars sucked ass.

Umm, no it wouldn't. Halo Wars was not mainly by bungie (it was by ensemble studios),What does this have to do with anything? Oh yeah... NOTHING. and Ensemble wanted a different perspective.And what if Bungie wants a different perspective, too? if i wanted a game with classes, i would play tf2 or cod. not halo.Oh so this is all about YOU now, and not the kind of game Bungie wants to make, right? WRONG. Bungie makes the game as they see fit. If they want classes they can add them in. You don't want to play it stick to Halo 3. therefore there is a small chance that people would like the "new multiplayer mode" rather than just playing halo 3.You mean... because YOU dont want classes, that means nobody else does? Unbreakable logic there. and just to let you know, halo wars sucked ass.No it didn't.

  • 09.22.2009 12:40 PM PDT

I speak the truth, and truth speaks itself.
The lies disguise what you despise.
Run. Flee and be, what you've always dreamed.
What happens now won't matter later.
What you see will not be, nor what you imagine will not happen.
The end is close, so take your dose.

This is the best suggestion I've heard of about a Class system on reach.

wow what are you, a fifth grader? why are you getting so defensive?

first off, Bungie doesnt want their ideas to be first. they have been listening to user opinion, not making up ideas. this is why they are so successful.
i quote you,
You mean... because YOU dont want classes, that means nobody else does? Unbreakable logic there.
actually no, halo is not cod or tf2. if they went to copy their gameplay style, there would be no point in playing halo anymore.
You say everyone wants classes, which is not true. you hvae no evidence in anything like that.
And what if Bungie wants a different perspective, too?
im pretty sure they dont, because, again, you have no evidence. youre just taking this kids idea and saying its bungie's masterpiece. learn how to debate before you start accusing me of things like Oh so this is all about YOU now and You mean... because YOU dont want classes, that means nobody else does?

and apparently, you arent an actual gamer, because you think halo wars is good.

no duh, but that would kill the point of all halo multiplayer gaming.Umm, no it wouldn't.
what do you mean by "umm, no it wouldn't."? you have nothing to back that up, youre just saying an irrelevant opinion with nothing behind it.

Halo Wars was not mainly by bungie (it was by ensemble studios)What does this have to do with anything? Oh yeah... NOTHING.
actually, yes it does. you just split up a sentence so it would look like if i were just throwing out opinions(which i'm not.)

if i wanted a game with classes, i would play tf2 or cod. not halo.Oh so this is all about YOU now, and not the kind of game Bungie wants to make, right? WRONG. Bungie makes the game as they see fit. If they want classes they can add them in. You don't want to play it stick to Halo 3.
who said bungie wants to make reach like this? this topic is just a wish for the multiplayer to be different. not a bungie-written topic.

obviously, you have no idea what you're talking about. i suggest you get some experience with debating before you start up worthless arguments which you can't hold up.

I have to agree that this is not Halo 4-- it could be focused on multiplayer with a brief campaign like ODST.

Shields: You can have characters whose shields regenerate and characters that do not-- the Elite for example, I would not give him regenerative shields like the Spartan; instead, the Elite has unlimited invisibility (think Klingon Bird of Prey).

The Hunters may have a lot more health than the Spartan but like the Elite, feature no regenerative shield system.

If the Hunters have 200% health or more-- then the Brute should perhaps feature 150% health without regenerating shields. If fighting against Spartans, you'll want to run them over in one sweep-- if you're a Spartan; you'll want to hit, retreat, regenerate, and hit again.

Size of target: You have to take into account the size of the target-- if you pick a Brute or Hunter, your hit box is bigger, despite your starting advantage in life. If you pick a drop -blam!- trooper, you will be weak, but you are a smaller target and harder to spot.

Speed: I would make it so the Elite is the fastest character (150% perhaps), the Spartan and Brute would be the average, the Hunter would creep, and the ODST would be maybe 75-90% the speed of the Spartan.

Tech: The Spartan could have his regenerating shields; the Elite, invisibility; the Brute, rocket pack; the ODST, multiple visors; and the Hunters... arm mounted shield?

thats actually a great idea, but then again, elites had shields too, so they would have to have a different weakness. say for example, really bad melee (like halo 1 melee)

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

the only class-based idea I really agree with is this.

  • 09.22.2009 6:57 PM PDT

Halo Reach should be different as MLG said, its Halo Reach not Halo 1 2 or 3. Its like a Star Wars game.
