I received my console back after it's second repair Friday and
Guess what, the same issue re-occured.

I'm beyond frustrated, ODST will not play, Halo 3 will not play.

I called M'soft support again and spoke with yet another supervisor. He assured me that this time my console would be replaced with a new system, not a refurb. Just my 2 Cents!

This has turned into such a fiasco. I wish I had someone to blame, but no one can give me a reasonable answer as to whats causing the issue.

I would just email the customer advocate group like I said in my previous post. I talked to the rep on Friday and I am getting my console back today (Tuesday). They have power that the call center doesn't have.

Boingo Boingo Whoopsy Knickers

Mines been away 3 weeks starting yesterday. Just got a call yesterdat saying it would be back on the 25th (tomorrow), since the problem got escalated and they air shipped, after i finally forced them to put me with a resolution specialist. It BETTER be here today.

i wonder has anyone tried manually updated their x-box. that may fix the problem. It should find all the games you ave via the games youve played and update them all.

Turns out that Microsoft sent me a different 360 (indicated with the different serial number) even though my repair order page didn't indicate this. Much quieter than my old 360, but it's annoying to have to get the licenses back for all my DLC, particularly old promotional themes that don't have a link on marketplace.

Haven't tried a Halo game yet to check if this actually works for them. Too busy finally getting to play Left 4 Dead 2 and Borderlands. I did have some issues starting up the Bayonetta demo. I'll be back later with a report if Microsoft sent me another bad system.

I've owned ODST for a while now, and never had any problems with it, until tonight. I received the disc unreadable error a few times, and then was finally able to bypass that, but could not load the content when I actually tried to play a game (for instance, matchmaking kept restarting and during custom games I would fail to load content, but I was actually in the game itself).

I am using an older 360 (no HDMI), which seems to be a recurring theme. I would really appreciate a quick resolution to this...

Got my xbox back, they never fixed it, said it was tampered with. Like how I never got to give any reason or anything.

Thanks to everyone here.

Now I need to figure out how to get a new xbox and transfer my data because apparently no shops do that, so looks like I have to buy a new Xbox, then transfer data, then trade in this one. Might buy a PS3

I can't tell if my call worked or not, but they sent me an e-mail with a service number and shipping label... how can I tell if it is free or not? Is there a way to view the cost of the repair on the Xbox support page? I could not find one. I will be really annoyed if I ship my Xbox to the repair center, only to have them call me and say I need to pay $99 for the repair...

Just wanted to post an update. I had called MS and sent in my Xbox. I had to wait for a shipping label to come in the mail (~5 days), send the Xbox to Texas via UPS Ground (~8 days), wait for MS to receive the XBox (~ 2 days), and ship me a different refurb console from TN (~8 days).

I was happy with the replacement unit because it was quieter than my old console. I don't know when it was manufactured because it the SN has a "repair date" of March 2009. While I'm really glad MS decided to address this issue I want everyone to know that the new console HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. So to everyone out there playing MW2, L4D2, etc. and not testing the "repaired" console, it might be worth trying to boot up the first campaign to ensure it was really fixed.

I have a feeling this is going to be my exact post a couple of hours from now. I still haven't gotten around to trying ODST on my refurbished 360, but probably will this afternoon. Sorry to hear you're still having problems.

I had good success with the advocate@microsoft.com route as mentioned a few pages back. Got a phone call from a very professional American MS rep who offered Advanced Replacement as an option to expedite (granted you do have to give a CC upfront). Might want to give that a shot if your problem isn't being resolved...

Finally got around to playing some Halo. Didn't experience any problems with the multiplayer disc, at least not on the 3 newest maps. Played through about half of the ODST campaign with no problems. Haven't tried Firefight or the original Halo 3 yet though. But so far no problems, and the ODST disc isn't hangng up on startup either, so I'm going to declare problem solved on my end until something does come up. Good luck to everyone else here still trying to sort this out.

I'm still waiting for mine. Going on 6 weeks now. I did the advocate@microsoft.com thing and did get a nice US contact person, and yet I am still waiting. Appears the "warehouse is backed up" or delayed somehow, or at least that is what I was told. going to be calling them again tomorrow to see if I can get a fire lighted.

For those that did the advocate thing, did a new service repair item appear on xbox support for you? I'm afraid they are going to make me wait another "2-3 weeks from the time you send it to us" until I see the darn thing shipped back to me, and another week for it to get to me. What a colossal pain in the you-know-what. I am glad that some of us got better treatment from MS than myself!

Well I'm supposed to receive a repaired console next Tuesday 12/8. Hmmm, that's over 6 weeks since I sent in my repair and over two months that I haven't been able to play this game! WOW! Arrgg.

The serial number of the repaired console appears as it's fairly new but we'll see when it arrives. I just hope it plays ODST. God I don't want to go through this experience again - and that said - I will never will send another console to MS again.

My attempts at getting this thing sent expedited was an epic fail. While I will say that the advocate email did appear to get the ball rolling in a positive direction, my experience and the continued delays in getting a repair in any reasonable timeframe was also an epic fail on MS's part IMO.

I am drafting a nice letter to MS attempting to show them the error of their ways. All the way back to the beginning of this issue with ODST, the month it took for them to say 'yes we have a problem and we are prepared to deal with it', to their inability to deal with the problem at the first level of support (at least in the first few days), to their issues in the repair dept that seriously dropped the ball on my console when their website clearly states that "For the United States and Canada, the average repair time (round trip from your location to Microsoft and back again) is typically between 14 to 21 days." And as a final comment, multiple calls and wasted time calling support to find out what was going on with my console to tell me repeatedly that the issue has been escalated and someone would be calling me and never getting a call until the advocate email was sent.

Enuf griping from me for now. Hopefully the next you hear from me is that I'm playing ODST successfully, from beginning to end without a hiccup.

Q. A brief description of your specific problem and what you've tried to fix it. Please do not recap the thread.

A. Directly after the first mission (where the guy takes the helmet out of the large monitor) it comes up with this read error, clean disk message (even saving just before, just go see if it will ever continue, has never resulted in it proceeding). After the first time it failed, i installed the game to the HD. However after installing it successfully, this did not solve the issue and failed at the same place with the same read error, clean disk !! (This makes me wonder what data is loaded from disk if installed to the HD or is the read error actually not the real reason for the failure). I then tried to clean the cache, with no luck. I then tried to play the game without the HD, again with no luck, same message at the same place...

Q. Remove your hard drive and play through the same sections of ODST that are failing. Does that make a difference?

A. No

Q. Put in Halo 3 and play through a the first few campaign missions (on easy, it'll go quick). Do you see the same behavior as in ODST, or does it function perfectly?

A. Yes (same error, actually i could not even start!!, meaning after the first cut scene when starting the solo campaign). It's this xbox isn't it!! Halo 3 worked just fine before.

I'd just like to add that other games I play do work. I wonder why?

I'm very fortunate, my copy works without a problem, same with the bonus disc. :D sorry to those that still have this issue. :(

Finally rec'd my repaired console Tuesday. Been playing ODST ever since to make sure it works on the refurb I rec'd. Thanks goodness, it does (so far - just finished ONI Alpha site). Very quiet serviced may 09 console...

Going to call it a success. I hope no one else has to wait 6 weeks to get their console back...

Hope y'all have a great holiday!

Sorry if this has been addressed before, 100 pages is a lot to go through.

I have the same problems that everyone else here seems to be having. An unreadable game even when installed to the hard drive.

So I took the advice of the OP and called 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Went through the whole spiel of describing the problem, assuring them that I had tried their various fixes and that every other game was working fine. Got to the end and tried to make sure that I wasn't going to pay through the nose just to play ODST. I was instead told that I was out of warranty (which I am, as of June last year), and that the repair would cost $99.

I'm not really alright with paying that much money to "fix" my console to play one game, warranty or no. Is anyone else hearing the same thing from Xbox support?

You should not be paying anything for this repair even for out of warranty consoles. In fact, mine was out of warranty, got a repair free of charge. The magic words are "I have a Disc Unreadable error when playing Halo 3:ODST".

If you did this and they still ask you to pay, ask for the Service Request Number and forward that info to Urk with a short version of what occured on the phone. Should solve the "problem".

If you are having any other difficulties with your console, then this isn't going to get you a free repair. Hope that helps!
