I am having the same problems. This is very lame. I am tired of this BS from Microsoft. I have an old 360, and there is no way I am going to buy another one. This is un-acceptable. IF this isn't sorted out, I am going to buy a PS3...

Microsoft does this constantly. There is always some way they tick me off, Hanging up on when when on support, rude support employees, crappy accessories, this list goes on.

Now, I spend 120$ (Special edition + Shipping, really 60$) to get this game, I am excited to play it, and than this.

And I thought my day was bad enough :P

Seems like we're being punished for taking care of our old consoles and not getting the RRoD. If this happens with MW2 I swear I'm selling my Xbox.

  • 09.23.2009 4:09 PM PDT

Those are some serious allegations. Could you imagine if this is some sort of ploy for people to buy new 360's. There better be another way to fix this then having to get a new 360. To be honest, as much as I love Halo, I am not sure this game is worth that

If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices.
The scary part is that if you play it forward it installs Windows.

"You know what I found? Right in the kernel, in the heart of the operating system, I found a developer's comment that said, `Does this belong here?`" -- Simon Lok about linux kernel in 2005

Not sure if this will help anyone but it seems like some people are having different issues.

My buddy was getting "player failed to load content" so he went through his Xbox's memory and found some corrupt files. Once he deleted those he could load all the levels again.

Hope that helps someone.

Everybody experiencing this problem should redirect themselves to either Test Ninja Alpha's post, or the front page, and do what this user instructs.

I tried to play Halo 3: ODST again, and thankfully it didn't get the error.

This time, I didn't interact with any flashback items, I just wandered the streets as the Rookie. First off, the sound was gone. No music, no sound effects, nothing. However, as soon as I reached one of those "Route Open" doors and saw the message to the right (Loading... done) the error appeared yet again saying that the disc is unreadable.

As soon as I was kicked back to the Xbox dashboard, the sound came back.

I'll have to see if this disc is corrupted and then see where I go from there.

At this point, that doesn't like a very far-fetched idea.

Yeah, i am having such a problem with my ODST copy. I got it at the midnight release, played it that night with no problems and all and then the next day played firefight w/friends. I noticed lag, quit and left. The next day, today, i was going to play campaign with my friends this time. As i put it in it took about 4-6 minutes to load. Then after all that loading, i tried firefight, but it just loaded 0%, then after another long wait it said 1%. This is a bit annoying and kind of ridiculous, i hope a moderator checks this out because when threads like these get larger, then its a problem.
P.S- My other friend tells me some similar issues and now i had to wait like 10-15 minutes to get the disk to load, and the music is screwed up! It's out of sync and really I just want to enjoy this game. :( sadface plzz fix :)
EDIT: i just finished the loading in FF. It worked. I didn't do anything it just finally loaded, i really think that it has something to do with either the disk, (factories), or the recent update from X-box live.

Possible DISC UNREADABLE FIX:

So after troubleshooting this thing since the midnight launch I started having a strong gut feeling that it was something to do with the HDD.

I went to target just now and bought a new HDD. Came home, plugged it in, created a new profile and booted up ODST.

Its working fine through to the rookie mission so far without a single error or retry. I'm going to play through to the helmet in the tv and I'll come back and update with my results.

Mine has same effect whether HDD connected or not, so likely won't be a fix for me.

I've contacted support and they are looking in to if it's an issue with the game (being brand new) or an issue with my box. they are calling back tomorrow.

Probably tell me to send it in for repairs. Time to sweettalk the wife into an elite methinks.

So I got to the helmet pulled it out and skipped the cutscene. I skipped it because this seems to increase the chance of disc unreadable.

Then the weirdest thing yet happened. I got the junior detective achievement and the screen went black for 5-10 seconds.

Then up popped "The Rookie". Somehow it kicked me back to the very beginning of gameplay. I'm going to try playing through the level again and see what happens.

OK... so after playing through the rookie again I got the disc unreadable after pulling the helmet.

I'm completely baffled at this point. Please help us bungie!

may sound a little silly but have found that if I save and quit every so often I am not locking up. 2 times I had locked up after the tank when I get to Buck during a loading save point. Then I save and quit before I get to that point, then restart and have not had either ureadable or locked up. since then have been saving and quiting every 10 or 15 mins and have not had any problems.

Honestly, I just want confirmation that people at Bungie and/or Microsoft are looking into this issue so I can stop obsessing about it. I'm getting seriously tired of checking this thread every 10 minutes for new info on the problem.

I'd say that at this point it's pretty clear that it's not an isolated incident. :)

1. I get random disc unreadable notices. Its always at different parts. Sometimes I can play Firefight, sometimes I can't. I have two different discs from two different stores. One is a Special Edition and one is just the Regular Edition. I have a manufactured this year Resident Evil 5 Red Xbox 360. I have no problems with any other games.

2. Same problem occurs, but not at the same parts, its completely random but it seems to be always at parts where it is loading a level.

3. Halo 3 was working fine for me a week ago, I played through the entire campaign. I can't test it now because I dont have the disc on me.

Yes I have noticed, as well, that the only time I get the disc read error message is when loading a portion of the game. I have also noticed that a few of the firefight maps actually work for me (Windward and Crater). Pretty random if you ask me.

Im in this exact same boat. I can play some Firefight maps. I have also never recieved the disc unreadable notice during actual gameplay. Its always between loads.

Yarrrr~

This topic should be pinned to the top of the ODST forum... it's a serious issue afterall. I'm checking it constantly in hope for any news.

Returning my game tomorrow for a new copy, if this dosen't solve anything, then i'll wait for Bungie to either release a patch or tell us that we're all screwed if we don't buy a brand new console.

  • 09.23.2009 6:32 PM PDT

UPDATE

Got a new disk, does not work. Same symptoms as before.

It is official, Microsoft are pretty much robbing people who bought the console early.

I am selling my Xbox 360, and ODST. That is if they do not promise to fix this problem (Out of warranty)

See if it's just his one game or if its a problem with your XBOX.

If you were to read this thread, no problems are showing up in other games, its just Halo 3: ODST.

I have officially run through almost my entire library of games to check if it is my console. EVERY SINGLE ONE WORKS. Halo ODST is the only game that is having this error. I would really like some sort of response as, being in university, I am only able to purchase one game a month and I would seriously hope I didn't just waste my money on something that can't be fixed
