When I delete the game save under Memory/Games and clear the hard drive cache, the game still remembers my settings (e.g. joystick layout, emblem, colours chosen, etc.).

Where is it saving that? How does one completely erase all saved configuration, etc?

Gets weirder ..yesterday could't use Theatre mode...and today we can?

  • 09.24.2009 8:15 AM PDT

Veto is a strategy.

Pfft, bought two copies of ODST now. One I scratched, would have used the disc replacement program but called up and they said it wasn't available. Now even with the new disc it takes like 5 attempts for it to load.

It's a joke.

[Speculation] Maybe a hacker put in a virus in the mass production line for the discs and have certain content locked out until a certain time...

I'm just kidding. Regardless, I hope this gets fixed soon.

Well I got xbox due to halo.

If we can't play it on older (this is still suspect) machine, I may just return this and if I am going to need to upgrade hardware I may just buy a PS3. Pretty cool graphics.

Huge Halo fan and this may be it for me and xbox...

I have the same problem

it cuts out and says the disk needs cleaned everytime I get to the third flashback and when trying certain firefight maps

I got another disk and it does the same thing

also I downloaded it to my harddrive and it still happens

  • 09.24.2009 8:23 AM PDT

so even weirder, decided to pop in halo 3, the first mission works like a charm, everything is running smoothly, now when I forward to the last mission, boom, familiar image, disk unreadable, I put so much time into the campaign for halo 3 and out of no where disc undreadable when I have had it for two years now, since the day of launch? wtf is going on foreals, idk...

I wanted to reply because I thought it was only me.. My new ODST single player disk skips on the loading screen and won't let me play. It gets to where the text comes up "The Year is 2555" or something then skips intermittently and eventually freezes. I'm playing on a new xbox-360 elite..

Ok so we can get a better idea of what Xbox 360 systems are being affected lets get a list of dates going to see if there is a pattern. Because at first it was thought that it was only the old systems but its also the new ones, on the same note some people who have new and old are having no problems. (those of you who dont know where it is it is on the back of your system).

Mine is Xbox 360 Elite: 2008-03-28
Wifes is Halo3 Xbox 360: 2007-08-22.

And for those who are paranoid about private info, its just a date so in no way will it compromise your personal info.

I'm wondering if this problem might not be caused by some new Microsoft copy protection scheme. Halo is, after all, MS's flagship franchise for the console.

Also, my first google search on the issue yielded quite a few hits on people having trouble burning the odst disk within the top 10 results. It's possible MS has accidentally "protected" their IP from their own users.

PS: 2006-03-03

So, I turned my xbox on this morning... It was black for about 20 seconds and now I am playing the game.... No problems yet...

Perhaps they discretely updated like they do to cell phones?

My xbox is the normal original one

it broke about a year ago and they fixed it or replaced it whatever

But this only happens on ODST

Has anyone heard anything from Bungie? I was thinking that they might have been on a 9-5 kind of day, it just went 9 in Seattle. Hopefully they are trying to sort this.

First bit of press I've seen on the subject.

Halo 3 ODST not working on some Xbox 360s

  • 09.24.2009 9:53 AM PDT

Least someone is writing about it, first official confirmation I suppose

Any update you receive on live will ask you before doing so, if you don't accept these updates you will be signed off live, so you would know if you get an update.

Yes, I now feel validated.

But I'd much rather be playing ODST. :)

We've have finally been noticed. Bungie is working on a fix hopefully.Let's hope this somehow speeds things up.

Maybe everyone who has a problem will get a new xbox lol

  • 09.24.2009 10:09 AM PDT

That would be great but very unlikely i think. I just would satisfy on a patch, fix or anything that would correct disc error problem.

  • 09.24.2009 10:10 AM PDT

Same, I am trying for the skull achievement, I got one by saving to HD, deleting, loading game, but it cuts out when it ends. It hasn't worked since I went into the wrong game type. Neither of my discs work, better get a treat for this!

I really don't mind that it crashes every once in a while but the thing that really bugs me is the fact that every time it does it also deletes like the last hour of my play time so I have played the first 5 missions at least 10 times now...

Bungie Test Team
Test Ninja Alpha
The best one of the three!

I'm seeing lots of people claiming they played Halo 3 and it worked great. But when I look at their game history, I've seen only one person who played Halo 3 in the past few days. Some of the posters haven't even played in the past year. I need you guys to let me know if Halo 3 works on your console today. I don't need to know that it worked last month, or last year.

I've been getting a lot of good information on the other 2 questions I asked though, so keep em coming.

Since different people can have slightly different issues, we want to get an idea of the various issues that people are seeing individually. For those of you having problems similar to this, please PM me the following:

1. A brief description of your specific problem and what you've tried to fix it. Please do not recap the thread.
2. Remove your hard drive and play through the same sections of ODST that are failing. Does that make a difference?
3. Today, right now, after you try playing without a hard drive put in Halo 3 and play through a the first few campaign missions (on easy, it'll go quick). Do you see the same behavior as in ODST, or does it function perfectly?
