I would like an official statment from a member of Bungie, even just a little message on this saying "We're working on the issue, we are trying to develop an update for the next few days". If i read that, I'll shut up.

I was posting when TestNinja did, sorry

My halo 3 works
well atleast the multiplayer

  • 09.24.2009 10:24 AM PDT

My xbox is, a Elite 120gb HDD, Bought 2008-06-15, no issues for me, Im gonna look around (and if someone would be kind enough to compile a list of dates of the xbox's with and without the problems) and see if there's a difference in hardware between them, which may be the culprit.

Test Ninja said> I'm seeing lots of people claiming they played Halo 3 and it worked great. But when I look at their game history, I've seen only one person who played Halo 3 in the past few days. Some of the posters haven't even played in the past year. I need you guys to let me know if Halo 3 works on your console today. I don't need to know that it worked last month, or last year.

In my case it won't show Halo3 being used cos I can't start the game at all, same as with ODST. Gets to the menu, I select campaign, it loads a little then dies on me.

I dont understand as to why Halo 3 working or not on your console would matter. The game is 2 years old and did not have any reported problems. What, now that ODST is out the game is going to suddenly have problems? Is this some sort of conspiracy that the best-selling 360 game won't work on older consoles now in order for a large population of consumers to go buy newer versions? This all seems very shady to me

Feel Free to Digg this to bring this problem to Bungie's Attention. The link goes right back to this thread.

Also: I've found the error is hit or miss; I'm progressing by just saving before all cinematics. However if I forget, or don't know when a cinematic is, I can quite easily lose quite a bit of progress. And having to quit to hard save is annoying.

im gonna trust the opinion of the bungie tester that is asking for the information, and in all the time you took to type that out you could have just answered his question.

I bought two 360s in may of 2009. It was pro model with 60GB HDD and has HDMI port. I bought ODST on release day (sept. 22) and I also am receiving "Disk unreadable" error. I am able to get up to the point where you take the helmet from the broken tv screen in first level. when i press the button to interact with the helmet, screen goes black and error pops up. I have 2 xboxs in my home and 2 odst's. both copies work on one of the xboxs and neither of the copies work on the other... Strange.

A wild guess here : ODST probably reuse a lot of Halo 3 code. Since Halo 3 is out, a lot changed on the 360, in terms of updates, the new UI, etc, any of which could be adversely affecting that a particular piece of code. It could be copy protection related code, or just cinematic related code.

By checking if this only happen in ODST on in every game that use some piece of code, they can determine if that piece of code is worth their time or if they should be looking somewhere else. You know, so that YOU can get that fix faster.

hmmmm.. Good Point. But why only on some consoles??

  • 09.24.2009 11:07 AM PDT

Could be something you've downloaded with a demo, update, map pack, video etc

What i've done to remedy the problem was format the hard-drive, clear cache, install on hard drive etc. basically when i tried to play odst the second time the harddrive was empty like new....yet same error

  • 09.24.2009 11:12 AM PDT

I know. I've done exactly the same thing. So there cannot be any problems with the harddrive, like a virus or something.

I actually haven't tried the multiplayer disk yet, does that give the same errors for most people or is it okay?

  • 09.24.2009 11:21 AM PDT

The ODST campaign disc works fine.

When I pop in the Multiplayer disc, the 360 recognizes it as a
"Multiple Media" disc and tries to play it as a DVD. I usually get the "to use this disc put it into a 360" error or a disc unreadable error.

It tries loading it and fails or it recognizes it as a regular DVD and tries to play it as a movie.

Doesn't MS test this stuff? Do the older 360 need updated drivers?

We need fix fast. Gonna exchange this disk in the evening and see if that helps.

  • 09.24.2009 11:21 AM PDT

Bizarre that only some of the maps work in firefight too:
Windward,Crater and Crater Night and the others give the disc unreadable message.

  • 09.24.2009 11:22 AM PDT

I have tried the multiplayer disc and it works, as does firefight now. Campaign is as broken as ever, which is unfortunate because that was the thing I was looking forward to the most :(

  • 09.24.2009 11:22 AM PDT

Those maps work for me

the other ones don't

I got the RROD this summer, I got a brand new xbox sent to me. I got it back a month and a half ago. The xbox came with a letter saying the replacment xbox had all the best updates, hardware and it had been specificly tested. I still have problems with ODST, when I play firefight or campaign the game will randomly freeze. I can open the disc tray and it will go to the xbox dashboard like nothing happened. I have traded in my game for a different copy. I even installed it to my harddrive, still have the problem. Bungie better fix this or they are going to lose ALOT of money.

Hi all

I feel your pain! I have the same problem. When trying to load the first level (just after your pod gets hit during the cut scene) I get the disk unreadable error. The disk is not scratched, install to HD makes no difference and all other games fine. However on the advice of the Bungie dude, I tried Halo 3 and now that has the same problem! Cannot load a solo level, get disk unreadable! My xbox is only 3 months old (because I had to buy a new one thanks to the RROD) so I'm not sure it has anything to do with the age of the machine, must be software. Any how, really frustrated as there doesn't seem to be any movement on this issue from Bungie or MS. Calling MS was just a waste of time.

Come on Bungie, I'm dying to play ODST!

BTW - I should note that although the xbox is new it was only the core pack and I attached my old HD (20gb) to it. If it makes any difference.
