I dont understand as to why Halo 3 working or not on your console would matter. The game is 2 years old and did not have any reported problems. What, now that ODST is out the game is going to suddenly have problems? Is this some sort of conspiracy that the best-selling 360 game won't work on older consoles now in order for a large population of consumers to go buy newer versions? This all seems very shady to me
A wild guess here : ODST probably reuse a lot of Halo 3 code. Since Halo 3 is out, a lot changed on the 360, in terms of updates, the new UI, etc, any of which could be adversely affecting that a particular piece of code. It could be copy protection related code, or just cinematic related code.
By checking if this only happen in ODST on in every game that use some piece of code, they can determine if that piece of code is worth their time or if they should be looking somewhere else. You know, so that YOU can get that fix faster.
