boiling discs is working!

Did anyone else read the article? "One of the reasons why a brand new disk can become unrecognizable for the drive is the exposure to condensation, a phenomenon that occurs within the plastic wrapped subscription, as water molecules trapped in the air turn liquid when the temperature drops, for example during shipping." Could this be the reason for all the disc errors?

Act well...

1. A brief description of your specific problem and what you've tried to fix it. Please do not recap the thread.
While playing through the first 20 minutes I got a disk read error forcing a reboot. It was right before 'Buck'.

2. Remove your hard drive and play through the same sections of ODST that are failing. Does that make a difference?

I will try this. I have not seen this issue since then.

3. Put in Halo 3 and play through a the first few campaign missions (on easy, it'll go quick). Do you see the same behavior as in ODST, or does it function perfectly?

Tried, no issue.

my disc 2 has been getting it since the beginning

My ODST was not unreadable but the audio would cut out, and it would take up to 5 minutes to load a level. The game would eventually lock up when it gets to a check point. I am using a new Arcade 360 with the Jasper chip in it and a new 120g hard drive. If I put my new 120g on my original 360 is works fine. Is everyone using a new 360 with the Jasper chip or are you using an original 360. I did finally beat the game and Firefight works OK, but I will try to install it on my HDD. It never said "unreadable disc" on mine. I think it may have something to do with the Jasper chip, when it crashes you can almost tell it is going to happen because you can hear either the cd spindel motor or the HDD run at a constant high pitch. I hope this helps.

Nahh im using a year old xbox. Everything sounds fun when you run it. Just as soon as the game starts to start up i get the error now. First time it happened I made it to the helmet stuck in the tv screen in the beginning of the game. Ever since then the game wont even run

This actually is the first scientific hypothesis that I've seen in a while on this topic.

To test this experiment: Can someone try playing thier 360 with their ODST campagin disc in it?
The Catch is that you must play it below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you perform this experiment, please PM me the results and exactly what happens.
You could help the cause by doing this experiment!

Joining the club :/

ODST gives the error when the cutscene with Dares pod finishes. I'm also having errors with the MP disc, some of the maps will not work.

Going to try without the hard-drive tonight, will update. Please bungie, I have faith you guys will fix this quick.

ok just tried the game again after leaving it off for a few hours. It actually started up this time and played smoothly despite incredibly long loading times. But I got the error again at the end of the cutscene that plays when you remove the helmet from the tv.

my disc 2 has worked fine so far, funny how the last level in halo 3 recieves the disc error when I try to play it, a connection between the 2 indeed, there was a mistake between coding in the two games

Oakland Athletics will win the World Series.

i just got off the phone with xbox customer support. they recommended trying to play the game without the hard drive which did not work. They then told me that i should return the game and get another one. I asked them if they knew whether or not this problem had been previously encountered by them and they said this was the first they had heard about it. i dont know what is going on but this is outrageous. how did they not test the game on any first generation xboxes?

anyone else still here?

I just got my copy of ODST in the mail today and am getting the Disc Unreadable error too. It happens during the first cutscene of the game when the pods are dropping. Installing it from the HD doesn't work. Playing from the disc doesn't work. I tried Disc 2 and it seemed to lag while loading so I haven't attempted to play online with it yet. I'm VERY sad.

It is strange that many people experience the problem while in the first cutscene or at the helmet/tv sections.

sounds like a coding or burn error

Yeah that is the same place that mine gets the error as well. I just dont get this problem. Why is it that I can play some firefight maps but not others? Why can I watch the opening cinematics at all? Why does the multiplayer disc work without any problems? This is all very confusing

1. I had disc read errors right off the bat using the disc
2. I installed to the hard drive and I still received the errors.
3. I got a new disc from GameStop and tried it, but got the same result.
4. I got one of my friends discs that is working fine for him and it still isn't working.
5. I deleted the System Cache and have removed the game from the hard drive and reinstalled several times. I also deleted my campaign progress and started over. None of that worked.

Here are the places I notice the disc errors:
1. At the end of most FireFight games when it tries to take you to the carnage report
2. Right after CUT scenes in the campaign, or if I try to Save and End.
3. Sometimes it has errored as soon as I start the game from the dashboard.

My XBOX360 Info
2006-09-20
20 GB Hard Drive

I have not tried Halo 3 yet recently, but I will tonight.
