No it's not. If everyone who is having this problem doesn't have it with the HDD detached then we KNOW it haqs something to do with the HDD which in turn puts us one step closer to figuring out what the BLEEP is going on.

Try it. I dare you.

There is no LIVE without a Harddrive so this is worthless to me...

My friend had the exact same problem with his, it would fail to load after Dutch's mission.

Actually removing the HD did nothing for me... still gave me the error.

Unfortunately, taking off the HDD is not a fix for me

alas I will try this without the HDD simply because I want to find out the story... if it even works...

no achievements... sad face... oh well the story is simply what I'm after at this point... that way when a patch or whatever does come out I'll get the points I already achieved...

dont hate the player, hate the game

when you put the game in for the first time it didnt update did it? because if not then that may be the reason why...i mean after you get a new game you almost always get a system update.

My disc multiplayer disc came with like a weird sumge on it its like a discoloring of the disc you can see it under the light :(. MS messed up with the mass ODST Disc production.

Didn't try updating it yet. Worth a shot I suppose.

  • 09.22.2009 8:28 PM PDT

My halo 3 works perfectly fine.

  • 09.22.2009 8:28 PM PDT

Feel like I should have gotten Aion instead. At least I would be playing something new instead of wasting my time crying about it not working...

  • 09.22.2009 8:29 PM PDT

Down with the disc production factory. Angry Mob!

  • 09.22.2009 8:30 PM PDT

Wow, this is bad. Only thing I can say is rip the games to the HDD if possible, even the MP disc if that has errors. Only 3.5GB for ODST but I haven't tried the MP disc. If anything else, try to return the game for a new copy.

Just trying to help the people who are having problems.

  • 09.22.2009 8:33 PM PDT

No update request. I have a first gen box. I have the same issue with halo 3 in the exact same spot.

That said it booted up for me this time with My HDD attached. After maybe 30 unsuccessful attempts. No clue why...

Achronos! Where are you? At least acknowledge us.

I was thinking maybe since it didnt have an xbox live update would be the problem since the game still uses online features but its not happening to everyone.

and then i thought maybe if you have an older xbox that maybe be the problem but i really cant think of anything else..

  • 09.22.2009 8:38 PM PDT

I've been having the same issue as most. Disc Unreadable error when the second cutscene is starting or whatever.

Removing the Hard drive and attempting to play that way still caused a disc read error

Firefight seems to work 2 out of 3 times or so.

My guesses are (1) a commonality in our xboxes that odst is bugging out on. (I have one from about 6 months after launch that was rrod'ed and repaired). If so should be patchable as far as I'd think. or (2) it's more demanding than the other games I play in some way, and in doing so it's exposing a hardware fault I didn't know was there.

I will say, that a few weeks ago when playing the Wet demo on 2 or 3 occasions I got errors "reading the disc" (while it clearly was a downloaded demo). I didn't think much of it, just assumed it was a problem with the demo and it didn't really matter to me so deleted it and moved on.

  • 09.22.2009 8:40 PM PDT

Mine does this and if I let it finish the cutscene I get the Cannot Read Disk error.

Something to do with stuff.

I seem to be having the same problem as the rest of you. I've tried everything from cleaning my xbox's lens using a disc cleaner to installing the game on the HDD. (Oh, and I've tried 2 separate copies so far). Point being, I don't know what the problem is.
