Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
bungie please fix halo.

I went and exchanged my disc that was not working for another one, and its working so far.

However, when i press pause and save and quit, wait for it to show 'Saving' down the bottom left and return to the start screen, i then turn my xbox off and back on and try to resume my campaign. It goes all the way back to the start of the game and not where i saved my progress.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Launch Xbox 360 with 20 gig drive.

Okay so far.

Disk and HDD normal play results is sporadic read errors. 100 percent failure on co-op. 50 percent failure on Firefight. Sporadic failure on single player campaign.. events like the recon helmet trigger a read error.

Wrote disk to HDD and played via HDD = 100 percent read failure for campaign

Removed HDD and played with temp acct = 100 percent success. So it is not the disk drive if I have played the last hour straight from it. (update below)

EDIT -- after 2 hours of disk only (removed hdd) play and getting to the part where you jump/crash the warthog, then the scene plays... got disk error.

I am at a loss..

Welcome to the club. Let's hope that Bungie really has news tomorrow or any day really soon.

Well I've finally reached the end of my DIY solution. Switching out the HDD for a memory unit allowed the game to run slightly better. But after a few random disc errors, I've finally run into a disc read error that has consistently happened about 5 times in row. It's when I'm trying to open the door just after the 2 Brutes and Brute Chieftian on Data Hive. Thus I cannot finish Data Hive. It doesn't even load the cutscene. A split second after I press and hold RB and the screen pops up the error activates. This is so frustrating.

The problem is not just disc or just hardware. It's a combination of the both. Something is wrong with how the disc communicates to the HDD or the disc drive. Hopefully their is a fix, their must be, everything else works fine.

I am telling you, it has something to do with that system update that came out on the day ODST dropped. People saying they can play the game without a Hard Drive or on a MU without downloading the update pretty much confirms this. Microsoft needs to quickly release another patch that fixes the errors of this one.

I've been having these problems since Tuesday, before the hardware update was put up. So it's not related to that, at least in my case.

Tuesday was the day that the system update came out, same day as ODST. They have to be linked in some way

My problem started on Tuesday as well, before the update hit.

  • 09.25.2009 6:07 PM PDT

Yea I had the problem before the update too.

  • 09.25.2009 6:09 PM PDT

Damn... I could have sworn that was the problem. Oh well, back to the drawing board on this one

It could be an update from before the time ODST came out. It has to be one of the updates that were released within the past 6 months, because that's the timeframe where Halo 3 also stopped working for some people, I believe. Some people mentioned August or something. Maybe earlier.

  • 09.25.2009 6:15 PM PDT

It is okay man you tried to figure it out. We all had ideas that failed right away. Yea my Halo 3 stopped working on many maps of Halo 3 at that time. And those same maps don't work on the second multiplayer disc.

Well I don't know about the other missions, but I played the first mission of Halo 3 the Saturday prior to ODST's release and no problems.

Guys, I've tried everything...Most of us have. At this point we just need to sit back and let MS and Bungie do their thing. They will stumble upon this thread someday and do something about it. Who knows, we could all be screwed and there wont be a patch.

Did you try playing through all of the campaign after ODST?

No. I've been spending my time getting through what I could of ODST.

Try it now, on easy to get through it quickly for faster results. Since, you know, we haven't found any real solution yet for ODST, might as well kill some time, right?

If they fix this and I still get the message I will be so sad and angry.
