Play through all of it, and I mean all of it. If you get the error even one time, it might help our case.

Both ODST and Halo 3 aren't working for me. I'm guessing some sort of patch will fix it although i'm thinking of taking ODST back to a different store branch to see if the disk i get from there is any better.

Kinda doubt it though.

Oakland Athletics will win the World Series.

just realized that the disk error section of the halo 3 odst wikipedia page has been removed

Add me to the list of Unreadable disk users...

This is disappointing

It also does not save my progress

  • 09.25.2009 7:23 PM PDT

I wish the error itself would be removed :(

SIXTY FOUR DOLLAR GAME COLLECTING DUST THIS IS NOT GOOD

  • 09.25.2009 7:30 PM PDT

Update just kicked off when I restarted my box... *crosses fingers*

  • 09.25.2009 7:31 PM PDT

This makes me a very, very sad panda. Not only is it annoying but it also prevents me from saving the game, which now means I have to start from scratch even though I was almost done with the game.

  • 09.25.2009 7:33 PM PDT

What were the corrupt files and/or how do I know if they are corrupt? My x-box is now not letting me play Halo 3, the original anymore so it may be this issue. Thanks.

They released an update today? Or were you just late to the "OMG I am so mad at this DRE crap" party?

I didn't see an update prompt appear when I turned on my xbox.

Well, I tried to see if I could play at least one Firefight match solo on Crater, and I noticed the sound stopped during the loading at the menu. The XBOX guide button still had a sound.

Did anyone else experience this? Just wait at the menu and see if the music cuts off. Also, after, I get the DRE. :(

EDIT: tested it again. It either does it on its own or when it finishes loading the map. So maybe it's a loading bug?

Of the two firefight maps I can play (Lost Platoon and Windward) the music will randomly cut out during game play. I will just be playing my game in absolute silence. This is usually followed by a DRE

  • 09.25.2009 8:01 PM PDT

I get the sound cutting out thing as well. When I try to load the Windward firefight level or the Romeo section of the campaign either it starts and there is no sound and a DRE screen follows or it doesn't load at all and I get the DRE right off the bat.

Hrrrrmmm.... 39 pages and still truckin
Hrmm... can people that have this problem tell what chipset (xenon, falcon, jasper etc.) is in their xbox?(if you know)

It could be that that specific motherboard may not have a good enough GPU, or not enough RAM. although i highly doubt it, it could be a factor in this problem.

Ive developed this theory because of a couple of things:

1. The DRE message is the default message when a game crashes on the xbox 360. (proven by certain game demos giving the same message.)
2. I remember not too long ago, i had a similar problem with a game (PC game) that crashed at a certain point every time. I was told the problem was that i didn't have enough RAM, so when the game needed more RAM than i had it would crash. this may (or may not) be what is going on here.. sort of. The same concept could be applied to the CPU/GPU i guess, but not in the same way.

I don't know if anyone in this thread has said this, or if it even pertains to what has happened to everyone else, but here is what happened to me. I bought the Collector's Edition of ODST and like everyone else was very happy. I played the game for around an hour and a half to two hours with it working fine. after taking a 15-20 minute break i came back and turned my xbox on only to see one red ring and the E73 error. i have no idea if the game and the error are related, but either way my xbox got shipped off today... Also i don't know if it matters but my xbox is almost two years old and has never had to be sent in for a repair, and I have never tampered with it.

Remember, everyone, if the game is acting like it is in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIcZL-LKHok#movie_player

Then that's the problem we're all talking about. If it's a red ring or something else, it's likely hardware failure.

I wish I was still legendary.

I have never had a problem playing the game without the HDD, which makes it blatantly obvious that the HDD is causing the problem. I can't even start the game to install updates with the HDD in - it crashes before reaching the bungie logo.

But, it is slightly different for everyone. two or three other people have tried with their HDD off, it worked temporarily, but crashed later on.
