Say who?

  • 09.26.2009 5:07 PM PDT

The same thing happened with Halo 3 the first time round. no one did anything then so i expect no one to do anything now.
PS if you keep trying to play ODST you are slowly breaking you xbox... be warned

  • 09.26.2009 5:12 PM PDT

Are you serious about the no one doing anything part.

ok maybe we shuld clear up some stuff here. everyone is having the DRE in different places, some are having it on other games including halo 3 while others are not. the DRE doesnt specifically mean the disc is bad, simply that the xbox had trouble interpreting the data somewhere.

The last thign we need is "it will break your xbox" and crazy ways of fixing it that may actualyl cause more harm then good.

bungie is working on it. chill out, let them see what they can find, and wait for news. in the meantime go outside or play another game. Yes it sucks, but I'm sure it will be rectified one way or the other.

  • 09.26.2009 5:28 PM PDT

I think the reason that some people who experienced their copies of Halo 3 not working was because the issue wasn't as widespread or major. People just assumed that chances are, a 2 year old game disc would eventually where out and cause a DRE. However, thousands of people experiencing a game being broken out of the case....That warrants some attention

  • 09.26.2009 5:35 PM PDT

Yea i think they are related too. No one cared when it happened in Halo 3 2 years after getting it. I know I just thought my disk was old.

I'm having the same problem too, but the location is random. I'm considering just returning this game by next week, whether I can finish the game or not with this problem...

champ dude, i agree. and im sure that why test ninja alpha specifically asked if player's halo 3 campaign was working now. possibly soem thing changed since halo 3 dropped that is causing data corruption, ie an update.

personally i dont think the diversity of the xbox hardware is working in anyones favor here. since the issue could manifest itself differently on a system with different hardware. this is actually something i worried about with this gen of hardware, becuase even tho they have the best intentions in bringign down the price when you have mutiple hardware frameworks out there each possible with different variations of say disc drives, youre bound to run into issues.

  • 09.26.2009 5:42 PM PDT

And all the updates that change the way the hardware works. That I think has something to do with it, and all the different hard wares. They both effect each other I think.

My last post for tonight but I think this thread might actually die off. We had an amazing run. I hope we all get on the amazing game known as Halo 3 ODST.

  • 09.26.2009 6:12 PM PDT

I don't think it will die off forever. There are still a lot of people that don't have their copy yet and are unsure whether or not it will work. When they encounter a problem, this will be the first place that comes to them :) But hopefully it dies off quickly, when the guys over at Bungie lead us to our salvation!

I will bump this thread for great justice until my game is working at 100% don't worry.

Haha, This is something i would expect from Bethesda. No offense though, I love their games.

The solution posted by Alkaline Prodigy seems to have worked for me. As I posted earlier I could play the ODST campaign but got a DRE every time during the final missions. I had tried playing over 10 times and always got the same result with the DRE in the same spot of the game.

Now I tried it and I was finally able to get through the final missions without any issue. What I did was to hold down the sync button on the 360 itself and then hit the power button on the console and continue holding the sync button until the dashboard came up. Then after that I connected my controller. I don't know why but it did work for me. The only proof that it worked for me that I can offer is that you can see on my achievements that I beat data hive on Wednesday and haven't been able to complete the campaign until today after trying this method.

I also just checked Halo 3 and I still get a DRE in the same place. It can't hurt to try and I haven't noticed anything else different after doing this nor did anything pop up to confirm it was done correctly. So it doesn't seem to be a complete fix to whatever this problem is but it may let you at least play a bit more of the game until a real fix is finally announced.

Was the game installed to your HDD or what?

  • 09.26.2009 7:15 PM PDT

Yeah I forgot to mention that. I got the errors both with the game installed and uninstalled but the game was installed when I used the method I posted above.

Damn...Didn't work for me. Interesting that it worked for some. Another convoluted piece in this complex and frustrating puzzle

  • 09.26.2009 7:22 PM PDT

Yeah it's certainly annoying especially considering I really don't know what starting up the 360 like that does besides a quick google search turning up that it makes the 360 ignore failed updates.

Like I said it didn't fix my Halo 3 problems but somehow it was enough to let me beat the ODST campaign.

I had this happen to me, tried it on another console and it worked, i couldn't install it the hdd either, so I tried removing the HDD and it worked! for what ever reason i dont think its the disk drive but a hard drive problem. By the way this happened to my Multiplayer disk, not the campaign.

  • 09.26.2009 7:51 PM PDT

Is the Hard Drive that is not working connected to a console that experiences updates via Xbox Live or is it left offline?

I wish I was still legendary.

OMFG i cant believe this ****. I just called in xbox microsoft support and those sons of b**** hubg up on me are u SERIOUS!!!
U knw what this isnt effin funny anymore i payed a good $60 to play this game and i CANT PLAY IT!!! that freakin pisses me off i dont giv a sht how many people are callin you if i need ur support on ur freakin consol U DESIGNED.... I DEMAND SUPPORT but nooooooooooo they HANG UP ON U INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS CALLS FOR A BIG CONTAVERSY IF U LATER SEE SOMEONE ON TV YELLING AT BUNGIE AND MOCROSOFT WATCH ITS GONNA BE ME REMEMBER THIS MESSAGE

lolololololololol @ overreaction. I know the support is hopeless, but they're not actually that knowledgeable about ANYTHING to do with your 360. They just look up the problems on the website and if they don't exist they either hang up or tell you to send in your 360. What do you expect when a company outsources their entire support department to India? Try playing without your HDD in.

I'm crashing at the bungie/MS logo of both games using a 2006 360 and 20 gig HDD with NXE installed. It works fine without it, and the HDD can't be formatted - it formats in less than a minute rather than 1/2 an hour. I've had the problem since august with H3, but thought it was either a scratched disc or something damaged with the console's disc reading (because it had E76, E74 and red rings).

I just did this. And the game loaded waaaay faster than usual. I'll report back if it gets the error again.

Edit: Well the game just froze.. No DRE though. It worked WAY better than it ever has before though.
