After reading this whole thread, I think it's most likely due to the fact you guys have a older Xbox 360. Usually, older consoles will have trouble running newer games, like ODST.

But that's just my opinion. I still have yet to get the game.

As I have said, I own a March 2009 Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360.

Update.

As I said I went and tried to play halo 3 campaign again and when I booted it up I got an update. When I hit the main screen after the logos and stuff there was a page talking about access to mythic etc...

I skipped that and tried to boot a campaign game (I had the same problem with three when I went to replay it that people are now having with ODST). It worked. I tried again and it worked.

I decided to try the second disc from ODST and it worked fine.

ODST campaign disc? Still doesn't work.

A friend of Mine is having this same issue as well, all of his other games work fine, but last night when we tried to do co-op, his got a disc unreadable, he took it back to gamestop, same problem, they had him bring his system in, it worked fine on all other 360's except for his, I am thinking that this may be a manufacturing problem

Did they try swapping the hard drive?

I wish I had an extra one cause I have a hunch it would work.

I got the disc unreadable too. I lost the save of the last leval I finished, I restarted and had to start at my previous save. This is a joke, I expect something I pay 60 dollars for to work. Will Gamestop replace my disc?

You can try and take this to Gamestop, im pretty sure that they will replace it, but as i said before, when this happened to my friend his new copy was getting a unreadable disc error as well

In a couple of forums, people have said that it works after removing your HDD, and then the game should load fine, after taht re connect the HDD, and clear the cache.
I don't know if this works but you guys should try it.

I have PMed Foman but no messages as of yet... It looks like a pretty widespread problem...

I like BETAz.

I've been getting the error as well on both campaign and firefight. which is.... awesome...

Long story short, out of the box i was able to play til' you find the first flashback item, which prompted the load screen and then that beloved "disc cannot be read" message came up. i pulled the disc which was fine, then rebooted my system and from here on out it will not load past the first cutscene. despite a replacement disc, and attempting to install it to my HD which has over 70 Gigs available.

two weird things though, on the first load in of the campaign disc i was never prompted to update my system as is status quo for all new games. and while i still have the 4 achievements i picked up on my first 5-10 minutes of playing before the crash, the game/system generated no save data on my HD at all. which seems off considering i passed at least 3-5 "checkpoints".

I called MS support about it this afternoon, and after speaking with two equally useless CSRs their solution was that my Xbox needs to be replaced. which seemed more so an effort to get me off the phone than anything else. neither of them could explain why this was an ongoing issue Despite the fact that none of my other games have generated this error (so far), and that the disc did run on the Gamestop kiosk system.

Hopefully this can be patched or something, because it's already rendered going to the midnight launch pretty damn pointless.

Bungie is off partying somewhere and probably doesn't notice this wide-spread problem. -_-

  • 09.23.2009 1:25 AM PDT

try installing it to your hard drive.

I tried to install it to my HD. Instead of failing at a loading screen it failed immediately.

it took me 5 or 6 attempts to install this game with a DDE message popping up after 1 or 2% installed even though the disk played fine :/

if the game won't install keep trying!

  • 09.23.2009 1:38 AM PDT

No I mean it installed without a hitch. It failed when I tried playing. I used a poor choice of words.

  • 09.23.2009 1:45 AM PDT

I had these same problems since yesterday. I was one of the first that tried to ask about it. I have 2006 bought X360 and it had one RROD last december and it has been fixed. Somebody's saying that there's problems for the disc drive to read new games, i just wonder 'cause i been playing Batman:AA without any of these problems. But this is still annoying. 50 euros and i only can play for 10 mins of campaign and one barely working firefight map and it don't even work always. I'm so disappointed right now. I had high expectations for ODST and this kick on the nuts.

  • 09.23.2009 2:11 AM PDT

IM GODS CHILD BUT YEA I GOT DEVILISH GAME

Bungie is probably sitting behind their desks right now, staring at theirs screens, like "dammmmmm we messed up" LOL hahaha.
Just kidding but the problem probably wont be patched or fixed immediately because wasnt bungie throwing a launch party tonight?
They probably all went home drunk lol

Okay i just noticed one big thing. I have in my Campaign dvd a soft line in the middle of the disc that any of my friends doesn't have. I think it could a air bubble or something. But it wasn't the dvd printing that's for sure because it was in the middle of the dvd data printing and it was all around the dvd. That could explain a lot. I'll go to get a new copy of the disc and check it out in the store if there's any markings. Let's hope this solves something. I'll get back to you today.

  • 09.23.2009 2:30 AM PDT

I got mine today and played a number of missions and turned on and off ODST twice, no problems so far.

I'm just a little worried about the amount of people who's Discs are screwing up.

So is there anyone else who hasn't had any problems?
