The solution posted by Alkaline Prodigy seems to have worked for me. As I posted earlier I could play the ODST campaign but got a DRE every time during the final missions. I had tried playing over 10 times and always got the same result with the DRE in the same spot of the game.

Now I tried it and I was finally able to get through the final missions without any issue. What I did was to hold down the sync button on the 360 itself and then hit the power button on the console and continue holding the sync button until the dashboard came up. Then after that I connected my controller. I don't know why but it did work for me. The only proof that it worked for me that I can offer is that you can see on my achievements that I beat data hive on Wednesday and haven't been able to complete the campaign until today after trying this method.

I also just checked Halo 3 and I still get a DRE in the same place. It can't hurt to try and I haven't noticed anything else different after doing this nor did anything pop up to confirm it was done correctly. So it doesn't seem to be a complete fix to whatever this problem is but it may let you at least play a bit more of the game until a real fix is finally announced.

Ok this solution sounded wierd at first, but I gave it a shot... I was amazed to see that it actually worked! I kept crashing at the end of the data hive level loading screen, but encountered no problems after doing this. Anybody else having this problem should definately give this method a try. By the way, I have the game installed on the HDD. My 2cents..

Topic Bump

I bought the game Friday, and got past the first cutscene, where it promptly gave me a "Disk Unreadable" error message. Firefight also didn't work, after the countdown it would stay at the black screen before spitting out the error, I've tried this on all default maps.

I've returned the game twice, and even bought a third at another store, and of course it still gave me the "Disk Unreadable." The problem has been the same on all three disks, while all three Mythic disks work fine.

I've tried getting a new copy (of course), installing to hard drive, playing without the hard drive, clearing the cache, playing while connected to live, playing not while connected to live, and Alkaline Prodigy's method (just now), all to no avail.

After reading some of the other pages, I've seen the problem might be with older Xbox models. I seriously doubt thats the case when ODST uses the same engine as Halo 3, and both my original Halo 3 copy and the new Mythic copy both work fine. However, for informational purposes my machine was manufactured at 2009-09-16, and its my second console (First RROD).

I really hope Bungie and Microsoft can find a answer to all of our problems.

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

I really want to continue the story but can't get past NMPDHQ. I'm tempted to watch the ending online. I also only need the Deja Vu achievement and well it's not hard to see that I can't get it.

Ok- Well I'm not gonna read everyone's reply so hopefully it's not repeated.

Nothing seems to work for me. I've tried everything that XBOX support told me. I even tried installing it to the hard drive and still getting the same problem. The game will play the cut scenes, but the first mission, yes the first mission, it loads about 80% of the mission and gives me disc read error. I even replaced the disc. Still same issue. Brought it over a friend's house and it worked fine). I played other games on my XBOX without a problem. So I'm pretty frustrated. I did get the system used/refurbished. Haven't had an issue until now. Not sure how to distinguish the type of XBOX it is. I'm pretty sure it's just the arcade. I don't have a chrome face place. I don't know if that information is necessary.

LOL Bad batch of disc...damn dude that's a lot of discs... I went to two different stores (same store) to get this game replaced and it still didn't work...

I think the worse thing about this is the lack of communication from Bungie/Microsoft. You would think that by now there would have been some sort of offical statement of the front page of their web site.

We wait , we hope..it will be over by Christmas ;-)

Okay...So I returned the game 3 times to game stop, but still the same problem..I took out the hardrive and I was able to play the game with no problem...Put the harddrive back in, and the screen just stayed on the loading part. I thought I had a corrupt disk drive, so I reformated the hard drive, but still the same problem...So it wasn't the hard drive. I ended up downloading it directly to my harddrive and it works well with no problems....

Well even though I was able to beat the campaign on normal after using the fix Alkaline Prodigy posted I started getting DREs again. This time I was trying to do the campaign on legendary and after the first flash back mission I got the dre. To make things worse it didn't save any of my progress so I then I tried replaying Kizingo Blvd on legendary and as soon as I beat it at the cut scene I got the DRE once again. So it seems we are still stuck waiting until Bungie gives us a real solution.

I am having the same problem, ODST is unreadable on disks 1 + 2, I have installed to hard drive, played without the hard drive and cleaned the disk with alcohol with no change. Halo 3 also gives me the same error

Please read page 9 and PM Test Ninja Alpha with responses to his questions. It'll take a bit of time to collect but it will help get to a solution. The request is repeated on Page 9, 40 and 41.

I went to test ODST last night to my friends house. Without HDD installation worked perfectly. He has X360 Premium 60 GB model bought last years october. We played whole campaign and i left there with quite sad because i can't continue playing home. Well let's hope that don't take too long.

what i dont understand is and i may be wrong but if all of this is caused by the really recent update why didnt microsoft and bungie communicate and test the patch with the game isnt that like game suicide if they didnt ?

50,000 Kills in Halo 3 Over 2,000 Exp HS - 47 Brigadier Grade 2

I doubt it will be left alone as it seems like its effecting a high percentage of copies of O.D.S.T I mean my friend can only play certain maps in firefight it sometimes loads the multiplayer and the campaign just wont load at all otherwise he just gets DRE.

What future problem. This only happens with this game. If anything, playing the game is going to damage the system. for me it mainly happens when loading new areas

My Halo ODST seems to work fine now.

I think it might have just been some dust in the drive or something, as there were severe dust storms blowing over the east coast of Australia last week.

I just don't get why it was crashing in the same spot as everyone else.

Anyway, good luck to everyone else.

Has anyone been getting a message in the Halo menu where you load up the level and difficulty or just the Xbox menu popping up on your screen? On a couple of occasions, I had a message coming up, roughly along the lines of "Cannot read player content. Players may need to clean the disc" or something like that.

I wish I was still legendary.

It's just...randomly started working. TYPICAL, 3 hours after a failed LAN party.

I dunno what fixed it, but I started the 360 up using Alkaline Prodigy's method then installed it to a newly formatted HDD. it works, at least up to and including Uplift Reserve - I haven't tried any further yet.

random.
