Microsoft had a thing on IGN the other day saying that the problem isn't wide spread, but they'll look into it. I guess after 7 days of people having issues they decided to make a statement that pretty much says **** you to the fans and people that spent $60 of their money during a economic crunch. Looks like playing this and Halo 3 will never happen unless I give Microsoft more of my hard earned money by purchasing a new xbox, but that will NEVER happen. Thank you guys for doing nothing for the loyal fans that you expect to purchase another game of yours.

Ok, since it doesn't work with my hardrive and works without my hardrive, it can't be my xbox or the disc. So it is probably because there has to be an update.

Ignorance can be enlightened, drunkenness sobered, but stupid lasts forever.

I just bought a new Xbox, ODST was worth it.

Conspiracy time! Maybe Microsoft is keeping Bungie quiet so that we eventually give up and never speak of this again.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

It happened for a while, then it stopped.

So my multiplayer disc doesn't work at all. My campaign disc works fine and haven't had any issues with it at all but the multiplayer disc is not recognized at all by the console. When I put the disc and close the drive, nothing happens. It just says that the tray is empty.

I'm really getting a gut feeling that this really is one big conspiracy....

I miss the days of Halo 2.

Make sure if you do this don't let the game sit at the bottom of the pan.....

what i did to get it to work without any help from microsoft and bungie is completley reformat my hard drive and install both my matchmaking halo 3 disc and ODST disc right after recovering my gamertag, it might have something to do with a corrupt update from microsoft who knows. but after i did that i was clean and clear no issues with either now. try it out for yourself and let me know what you guys experience. you can always add me as a friend and we can chat on XBL to try and figure out what the problem is. but that was my initial theory after hereing that removing the hard drive would let the discs play so it must be a corrupt update file with the old xboxs. so reformat and start it up and install both games.

Well, thats it. I returned my copy. I'll rebuy it when it works, it'll likely be cheaper then, too.

I totally agree with this guy. He/she knows it sucks for us, they are currently working on the problem. So I guess we'll have to sit tight. I'm checking almost everyday to see if they found a fix for the issue. I don't understand why Microsoft though said it isn't a widespread thing though. Seems to me A LOT of people are having this issue. I went to two different stores and exchanged the C.D. and got the same problem. Also I tried it on another XBOX console and it worked. So I don't think it's a bad batch of C.D.s. It could be very well a compatibility issue. I don't know much about these things. Maybe there's a patch or something or we have to update drivers IDK. So before you make any accusations about Bungie ripping us off, Bungie sucking out, etc maybe you all should relax. How can you think that they are stiffing us for money? I mean you simply can go back to the store and get a refund. So play another damn game...and wait for further updates.

Oh and to the Bungie guys who are reading this... if you need a Ginnie pig xbox 360 for testing- send me a shipping label and I'll send you my XBOX.

its not a scratched cd issue, i think everyone has known of that kinda fix for almost a decade now, its a compatibility issue with i am almost certain drivers for the xbox. I can GARUNTEE you guys that are having this problem (me too) that it has to do with the older gen xbox's and the new drivers that microsoft came out with. A conflict with drivers with the new and old stuff. just reformat your hard drive and install your disk. just try it someone that is having the problem? Worked wonders for me... =\

Yeah, if you guess by my gamertag, I get crazy when something ticks me off. But I'm a bit concerned that Bungie hasn't said a word ever since page 41, and that was a few days ago.

Since then, 0 updates. Where are they and what are they doing? If the solution is to scrap our old consoles, then at least tell us that. The silence is killing me, and I bet is killing alot of people as well. Don't let the bloodlust of silence win, Bungie!

I suggest we all start calling them and complaining...

ok, so all of you people out there trying to give suggestions on how to fix it. you cant fix it, its an update issue. and same goes for all of you people asking if anyone is having this issue, yes we are, read the other 70 pages. no toothpaste doesnt work, boiling your disc doesnt work, holding the sync button doesnt work, casting spells doesnt work and neither does installing it on your hdd. i understand your just trying to help but for the love of god please read some of the 70 pages of posts that are saying exactly what you are. and if your having different issues or with different games, or your just on here to chit chat about ps3 please just dont post, the more off topic this goes the more they will ignore us.

ok so
on my first disc i got disc unreadable whenever i tried to do the firefight maps windward and lost platoon. I could also only complete the first three levels of campaign before the the disc unreadable message came up, however i could only load the first two levels.
i tried it on a different xbox and it worked fine
i tried to do lost platoon again today and it worked fine!
so i then released campaign might work too so i tried that. it still didnt let me go further then the third level.
i returned the disc and got a new one to find that it failed to load the exact same firefight levels. i am yet to see if the campaign works.
i am beginning to think it is my xbox as it worked fine on another
but it dies at the exact same place every time so you would think its the disc
i got my xbox when halo 3 came out(whatever xbox generation that is), all other games work

Microsoft:
"Hmmmm, we could spend time researching the problem, then spend more time and money coming up with a solution for this error.
Or we could NOT do that, and just wait until everyone gets frustrated to the point where they buy a brand new XBOX and give us more $$$$ ".

I wonder which route they will take?
