Damn I'm having the same problem, and only two days after I finally got it!!!(stupid postal strike in my area delayed it by 2 weeks) I'm going to send it back to where I bought it from and get them to replace it, it seems like the best option to me.

Has anyone figured out if you can take it back, and get a diffrent copy and the new copy works?

  • 10.02.2009 1:50 PM PDT

I heard about this and thought that was what was wrong with mine until I checked the back and found a -blam!- scratch in it that came with the disk.

Dr Zombie90210 was kind enough to update his original post with the info we have on this issue so far, so please do us all a favor and read the first post before asking any questions.

If there are no visible scratches on your disk, and ODST is still not working, getting a new disk is not going to fix it.

Currently, from all of the posts I've read on this thread, the problem is most likely not "who" sold you the game/manufacuer it. But rather, more leaning towards your 360 and the ODST disc itself.

I just got off the horn with MS tech support - what a pain in the arse. After attempting to explain everything I have done so far (see my thread on page 40...), they still asked me all the same questions I had just answered for them. I decided I would humor them by following their directions to clear the cache. "Now play the game". I asked him if he was willing to wait until the end of the mission, could be about 20 minutes. No answer. I repeated that I can play the game, it dies at the end of the mission, I don't think you want to wait for me to get to that point... Then he asked me to reformat the drive - I REFUSED to reformat the drive as I have too much time invested in the gamesaves stored there to do something that stupid for ONE GAME. The next response was he wanted me to send in my console for repair! I asked for a supervisor. After waiting for about 8 minutes, I got to talk to one, and they asked me the same dang questions! But it did appear that this person at least had heard of the issue and was trying to help. All I have to say is - that was a real pain and I hope I NEVER have to call them again. I doubt they captured a fifth of what I had done to date so good luck on using that info to fix the issue...

my game plays the disc but now doesn't load the maps for both firefight or the campaign. when i first got ODST it worked fine and i got to play through the campaign and try out firefight a few times with friends. now no gameplay at all.

  • 10.02.2009 11:29 PM PDT

same way whit the halo 3 complete multiplayer experience

  • 10.03.2009 1:12 AM PDT

I wish I was still legendary.

Only happens with h3 now, whether installed or not. I really hope MS gets a fix out soon.

  • 10.03.2009 1:14 AM PDT

I prefer señor Legendary Member.

Roadhouse.
I have seen the powers at hand and I can honestly say I am not ready

My disc reads just fine.

I strongly recommend to all of you to install the game. Once you do this the error will be lighter (but still present however).

Another bad bug is that the game loses achievements progresses every time: for example in "natural reserve" i had to save & quit in the middle of the level, and when I loaded it again it lost my progresses in the "Wraith killer" achievement.

To play solo campaign i recommend to save often (when you pass significative checkpoints do a "Save & quit").

  • 10.03.2009 2:29 AM PDT

A couple of days after launch I was having some issues with the checkpoint save system with ODST. But here lately I have had no issues at all. Its almost as if it has been stealth patched or something lol. Sometimes I would die and the second the 360 referenced the disc it would either work right and respawn at last checkpoint or it would give me a DRE. On rare occasions it would restart the game where I manually saved and quit. The problems with ODST were frustrating but my issues started with Halo 3 before ODST's launch. Yesterday I finished a complete Legendary run of ODST with exactly no issues... I don't get it.

Installing the game for a good proportion of this thread, including me, resulted in an instant disc unreadable error when starting up the game. Like I said in the OP, installing the game will work for a fraction of the people with the problem.

You're such a baddass ^^

I don't have ODST yet, but my friend does have this problem too!! When he called Microsoft Support, they said that the DISC IS FINE. There were so many people having this problem that they wouldn't respond anymore about this issue! There advise is to wait until a new update (firmware for your DVD DRIVE). Because it's mostly the "old" console with 20GB HHD + DVD DRIVE (http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.h tm) that have this problem!
