Has anyone figured out if you can take it back, and get a diffrent copy and the new copy works?

From reading through the posts and from my own personal experience the problem is not with the disk, a new disk will not help.

It it was the disk then installing the game on the HDD would fix the problem. It does not.

I have this problem, Unreadable and Check Points not working, when I play with my HDD installed.

If I remove the HDD the game works fine, my son has played all the way through and I have played over 1/2 way.

I suggest that if you have a memory card then remove the HDD and play the game. Better then waiting for a patch.

now it seems alot of my games are giving me a disk error.i tried to play call of duty world at war and it gave me a disk error a short way through the first mission.the same goes for halo 3 and odst.but when i remove the hdd the games work fine.i hope microsoft fixes this problem soon because the problem is'nt the games i think it has to do with the last system update and it's messing with the cpu reading data from the hdd.

my game plays the disc but now doesn't load the maps for both firefight or the campaign. when i first got ODST it worked fine and i got to play through the campaign and try out firefight a few times with friends. now no gameplay at all.

How do you know that MW2 won't cause the same thing? :)

Just got a call from Microsoft and they said an update is being worked on and then asked if I want a call every day or wait till the updates comes out then they call me again to tell me. I took the second option but sounds like the issue is being worked on.

It's like voltron, the more you hook up the better it gets

I returned mine the next day, and it still didn't work. Then I also tried that disk in a neighbor's xbox and it works fine. My xbox can't play the FM3 demo either now, with the same disc read error. With or without a disc in the tray.

Looks like a lot of new people coming on and telling their issues with ODST and demos like we have. Limited amount of people my ass.

MS and Bungie are aware of this problem, however, too bad this isn't their number 1 priority right now.

guys i think i know whats the problem
i rang up microsoft (english support centre) and i was amazed it was an english agent...but anyway
they said the technicians would ring me back today and they did and they explained what was the problem
New games now are built and put together in a new structure and some xboxes (a.k.a mine arent configured to read this structure and your gunna hate me for saying this but u need to buy a new console if u want odst guys... this is from microsoft btw i aint lying

  • 10.03.2009 3:01 PM PDT

since the game plays without the hdd i went and bought a memory card transfered my profile to it without the hdd on and the game works fine "hellyeah".i guess if you really want to play odst try this.

  • 10.03.2009 3:08 PM PDT

you don't need a new xbox if the game plays without the hdd attached.just buy a memory card transfer your profile to it take off the hdd and away you go.this will work until microsoft fixes the problem.

I just spoke to support at MS, and they told me this is not a common problem and they are not working on a fix for it. He said that I would need to have the console repaired at a cost of $99 (since I'm out of warranty). No chance. Was anyone else told this?

WTF, now they're giving totally different answers? Are they even in communication with each other? This is bull-blam!-.

  • 10.03.2009 3:54 PM PDT

well I called them they day urk told us too. I got a call back today saying the fix was underway and that they would call me back when it was ready. And personally that idea of being built on new systems is complete BS from that tech guy. The only thing that needs to update in firmware is the drives which they have done tons of times. Other wise everything in the Xbox is the same. Only the GPU and CPU were upgraded to lower heat, not their performance. And that is a horrible marketing move to say go upgrade your Xbox to play new games even though this is the same system. You know what I mean?
