My ODST disc stopped working right last night. I was playing firefight, and played security zone. That stunk, so we moved to Windward. After getting 200K there, we went back to security zone, and it claimed i had a disc error. It said the same thing when I tried to play mombasa streets.

I pulled the disc out and examined it, and found a minute flaw in the disc itself. In retrospect, I should have taken a picture..

There was a crack coming out of the center hole of the DVD and into the data area. The data area had begun separating from the layer behind it, and looked somewhat like when you need to rub the air out of a sticker.

Fortunately, my local Gamestop, where I bought the disc, honored their exchange policy, and swapped me a good game. I wonder if this isn't affecting others the same way, but maybe not as noticeably.

Well, I finished the campaign of ODST, thanks to some workaround I found, though it may have only worked for me. What I did was:

1)Installed the game to the HDD
2)Clear system cache
3)Play normally, saving and quitting often just to be safe
4)When the error pops up, I clear the system cache again
5)If 4 doesn't work, I erased the installed game and reinstalled it. This seemed to clear the error for a little while until I go to a new level or something, but I was lucky enough to go through 3 loading screens without it.
6)If 5 doesn't work, then I don't know anything else. Sorry. :(

I'll go test the multiplayer disc and see if I can get that running too.

this thread is still going on??let it die allready

Why? We're still having problems. my H3 disc still won't read, HUNDREDS of people can't read their ODST disc...and MS hasn't said anything for a while.

new odst disc or new 360?let the thread die

Want to give us some money for the cost? We'll gladly let the thread die if you send us all new 360s. :)

I have a crazy hunger for cantaloupe.. Oh darn, i wanna piece of that passion fruit bad. I LOVE my cantaloupe. ;]

I started getting the " open tray" problem a couple of days ago. at first i thought it was my xbox messin up, but it works fine with other games.

Now my xbox only reads it half the time. Its kind of a pain in butt. Only way i can get it to work is after installing it to the hard drive, and even then it seems to have a mind of its own.

Once the game actually starts i have had no error's. Getting it started is the hard part.

I will try to exchange it i guess. If that does not work, I sure hope they update it somehow...

I'm Battle Dawn a human male who is honored of the RAF Clans and been fighting for the United Nations Space Command Defence Force, from HaloWars then Reach to Halo3. Kicking alien covenant ass since 1999 with the best weapons of the UNSC to Beam weapons of the Forerunners. I am a Lone Wolf also a Freelancer.

RAF1 - MK-VI Spartan UNSCDF

K.Morrow

I tried every Halo game on my consol and still the same messeage come up. I tried playing it with the hard drive and still the same thing happens.

Then the Consol itself starts to have effected all my other games including my xbox oringinals.

These are the game that are effective:

Halo:CE - Error
Halo 2 - Error
Halo 3 - First encountered the Error
Halo Wars - Error
Halo 3: ODST - Started playing to the second level then the Error came up.
Call of Duty 3 - Error
Call of Duty 4 - Error
Call of Duty 5 - Error
Crackdown - Error
TC: HAWKX - Error
Star Trek Legacy - Error
Battlestaions: Midway - Play one mission then end the game Error
Gears of War - Error
Gears of War 2 - Error

My Xbox360 is in a box ready to be repaired so I must borrow my sisters consol it the only way to Continue the missions on ODST with the Hard drive taking off the memory still works along with the core.

There should be a Xbox Mobile repair Unit like the PS3!!!

I've also had the issue with The MP disc and Halo wars. CoD4 is still reliable, but I never tried campaign.

Screw MS and this machine. Poor Bungie I suppose who have to take the brunt of the criticsm which should be directed at MS. Roll on PS3 in the new year. 20 years of gaming gone just like that, why cause a company cannot give us the real low down on what is going on with their superior console. My old xbox still works and i still play Full Spectrum Warrior. My Dreamcast still works, all my Nintendos still work, What fails? The fraking 360. utter tosh.

For me the "Open Tray" error happened the first time I put the disk in the drive, really annoying but I suppose I at least don't know how good the game is I am missing.

P.S My Console's MFR is: 2008-07-29

All other games working fine so far...

I can happily say I can now join the ranks of you guys. ODST doesn't work anymore. I get to look at some very nice menues, though. Damn you Microsoft. Worst part? I already know exactly what microsoft is going to say on the phone, but I gotta call anyways. yay!

ok so i just exchanged my game for a new one . I am still having this problem.

I put it in my drive to boot up and it starts reading and then says " open tray"

This is starting to suck royal donkey nuts... the only other game i can think of that had a similar loading problem was the newest GTA, when it was first released. Luckily that was patched by a online update for the game..

I dont know what to do now? Is it even safe to put this defective game in my console. Will it cause damage to my disk drive? Some ppl on this very forum seem to be describing my exact problem and say it starts getting worse the more you play .

Its a great game but damn, It is not worth another new console.... This really sucks.

well im having the same problem as everyone else the whole unreadable disk thing with both disks... this has been going on after i used 2nd disk and played online and such.. went back to campaign disk and thats when it started messing up, luckily ive already beaten campaign so im not worried bout that as much except for getting teh other armor set from beating it on legendary

i was trying to figure it out i did the cache thing and it actualy went to the main screen till it said it disk unreadle and such

then power went out so i turned of my router and started playing it... not sure if it was the loss of power or the fact that im not connected to live but im able to play it and im now on teh 2nd lvl Buck... no mess ups so far turned router on but havent connected to live... im going to play as far as i can and also check firefight and such hten ill reconnect to live and see if it starts messing up again

hopefully this helps and srry for the lack of punctuation and grammar and what not

Jeeze, still more people with errors popping up. Wonder if the problem is a ticking time bomb, maybe those people without errors will soon have some trouble, then they can join us in this forum. Awesome!

And why the hell would we go buy new Xbox's?

There appears to be two assumption's going on. One, that this is caused by the newest update. Why then does this only affect some of us? I tried removing the HDD to play the game and I still got a DRE. Then I popped it into my friends new elite and it played flawlessly. I just don't see how you guys think it is in an update. Two, that this is not Bungie's fault. Whether or not this is some miscommunication between MS and Bungie, both their names are on the game I bought. They have a responsibility to insuring that if their name is on it it should be a quality, working product. I can't let them off the hook for this until I hear a response to why my game will not work. I want to help but when I am left ignorant and in the dark I feel cheated and frustrated.

It only happened to me a little in the start, but now I can't play. It very well might be a ticking time bomb...

For how the update could be affecting some and not others, it's possible that the update was corrupted during the download process. Most had no problems but some got a bouched update and the system is unable to tell that it's corrupt.

That's just the reasoning behind how it could happen. Personally I don't think it was the system update since I was having problems with ODST the Tuesday before the update went up.

die allready thread!!

/facepalm

This is a thread to let people express themselves about their problem, and to give them a chance of hope that there will be a fix to their situation.

Letting this thread "die" will ruin all of the above.

This happened to me when I got to the Underground Tunnels part. Now I have to start the whole freakin game over. Next time you do a free roaming game, bungie, learn to add auto saves.

Did any of you try the workaround where you uninstall and reinstall the game when you get the error?

I always save on a checkpoint before I know a loading screen comes up, like when you pick up Dare's helmet. Then after that workaround, it works. It may not work for some of you, but I'm able to play the game, at least until the next loading screen and the error comes up again.

Should we expect this on other new games such as Assassin's Creed 2?

  • 10.09.2009 3:44 AM PDT

Got my second copy of the game today since the first gave me an error at the moment you pick up the helmet on the first level.

Extremely unimpressed that my replacement disc gave me the exact same error. Tried clearing the cache and installing it to the hard drive to no avail.

I was annoyed that I was basically forced to buy this just to continue playing Halo 3 multiplayer to full extent and now this rushed excuse for a game won't even work?

Fix. Now.
