OK, So I did call after my rant (I must be a glutton for punishment but I really want a resolution to this problem).
Spent 30 minutes on the phone and was transferred to three different reps. Bottom line, "there is no resolution yet". "Someone will be calling you with this information when the problem is resolved." As I stated before, this was going to be a total waste of time.
I've already PM'ed the ref # to Urk as requested.
It did help that I had a previous reference number because I was able to cut the first line support off as they started to ask me the typical "did you clean the disk" questions.
As I stated in my rant above, this is NOT going to go anywhere and the head honchos at MS have their heads screwed on backwards. When someone calls and states they have a "disk read error with Halo 3:ODST" a FLAG needs to go up on their system and a different course of action must be taken. Anything else is a travesty to anyone that has posted here or spent any time trying to troubleshoot this issue.
The second person told me "Yes, we know that Halo 3:ODST has the disk unreadable issue and we have a resolution for it".
That resolution was that MS was going to repair my 360 free of charge. He then transferred me (after 20 or so minutes) to the hardware person (I want to use stronger language but I won't) who informed me that "there is no resolution".
Everyone with this issue need to harass the MS support folks, get a reference number (write it down). The "very small number" of us have to bludgeon them with our distaste for being treated this way.
ARRRGGGG!
I feel you. She saidt, "So you're saying the disc is dirty and scratched?" after saying the disc is perfect and like new...
A snippet of our conversation went like this...
Me: "The game is freezing at certain cutscenes..."
Support: "Try running it really quickly for me..."
Me: "Umm...ok..."
(WHILE RUNNING...) Support: "Try removing the hard drive"
Me: "You mean turn it off and try removing the hard drive?"
Support: "Yeah, try that too..."
Me: "(Seriously?!)Ok, running without the hard drive as well, but my problem is happening at certain points in the game, it starts up alright"
Support: "Sounds like your problem is with your harddrive..."
Me: *Oh christ*
Hopefully Urk has something better to offer.
