Great to hear that people are getting positive results.

From what i have noticed the PAL seems to be working normally while the NTSC is trippy.

So will microsoft give us a free repair to fix the problem?

and how would you go about getting it?

I just got mine back today.

Service Date: 9/19/2009
Serial 63505

So I guess this means that it is a 2006 Xbox that was refurbished last month. No HDMI out :(

I was able to play through my trouble spot in ODST, so I think the issue is resolved.

The only problem is that the screen flickers on boot up, but I can live with that.

Yes, MS will repair your out of warranty 360 at no charge if it meets the criteria described on the front page of this thread. Short story, you must only have problems with ODST. The first page of this thread also has instructions on how to contact MS to get the ball rolling. Good Luck!

Kat: The real Noble Leadership.

Apparently I'm getting my original console back. Has anyone who had their original console returned had their problem fixed?

  • 11.06.2009 9:20 PM PDT

Woot mine came back and works fine finally!

UPS is showing mine as delivered, but Microsoft doesn't acknowledge the pick up yet. I paid for my own shipping because they kept giving me the previously used tracking numbers and my UPS store and driver wouldn't take them.

Took a full week to go from Nevada to Texas. Hopefully it gets back faster. I'd just be happy if Microsoft would acknowledge they have it.

Took mine week to go from perth to sydney btw i think they drive there lol.

That's how devoted we are to playing the game. Also, I hope this thing doesn't happen on Reach too, because I'd be super pissed.

hmm I dont really want to sent my xbox away just before left 4 dead comes out

You think they might stop if I take too long?

  • 11.07.2009 5:58 PM PDT

I sent out my 360 last Friday, and it arrived in Texas on Saturday. Yet for some reason UPS is holding it until THURSDAY according to the tracking number. Seriously, what is going on? Could this whole process take any longer for me? (First called Oct 23rd and just now sorted out shipping label issues)

Sent mine in on Monday November 2nd, arrived in Texas November 4th (Nice job UPS), been a "Repair in progress" since late November 4th. Still no "repair completed" or anything else, maybe that will come tonight. Well, the one good thing is I ordered Modern Warfare 2 using Free Shipping on Amazon since I figured it was pointless to pay for release date shipping without a console. Still, I'd rather be playing that and Borderlands, and Brutal Legend than waiting around for my console to be fixed for a game I won't even try to pick up again 'til next summer. My main concern was the ODST error causing future games to f-up like it did to most of the demos I have downloaded recently. I'll update you guys on the status of my console when I do receive it (working?/jasper?/refurb?). I'll be pissed if I get a 2006 era refurb...

I sent my xbox in for repairs last week. I checked the repair status last thursday on xbox.com and it said Console Received. it has stayed under that category until today and just a few minutes ago i barely received an email saying they received my console today, when on the website it said they had it on thursday, whats up with that?

My console just yesterday was done with repairs and is on its way back. The thing is, I received 3 emails when it was done: one for receiving it, one for repairs complete, and one for the tracking number for the trip back to me, all at the same time. So I don't think they care about the email notifications all that much.

Mine is still in repair "mode". Two weeks tomorrow... three weeks since I sent it to them (Thursday). I'm going to miss MW2 launch, and that sucks. So much for "expedited" repairs. I wonder why some of us are getting repairs done so quickly while others are still in the "to do" pile?

At least some of you have the systems in shop. I still want to know why UPS is taking nearly a week to deliver my system when GreenElf just mentioned above it got there in 2 days.

Hey Guys.

I live in the UK. I got in touch with microsoft through e-mail and they never mentioned the free repair, I however did and it seems to have been completely ignored. All my other games worked fine up until a few weeks ago, everyone now seems to be freezing. It's really depressing because I can't afford a new xbox and I cannot afford a repair. Modern Warfare is on it's way and I won't be able to play it without going to my friends house. This all began with ODST and the dashboard update. i am not blaming Bungie but it's not fair that I am unable to play anything until I can afford a new Xbox, which will be at least a month if not more.

Well that's kinda what was happening with mine, then this morning I looked at it and it skipped right past the "Console Repaired" tab to the "Console Shipped Back". It's also odd because the UPS tracking info is showing the console was shipped from Nashville, TN and not Mesquite, TX, so I am not sure, but it seems like I might be getting a different console back. Alright if it's new, crappy if not. Either way, hopefully they just haven't updated it yet.

When you called did you say "Disc Read Error" was the problem? I spent an hour and a half on the phone b/c I accidentally said freezing problems and she told me it was going to cost money to repair. Then I mentioned that it's the disc read error later and she said "Wait, then we can cover that for repair." Be specific if you haven't. Either way, sorry about that man, maybe send a private message to URK and get a "Service Request #" for him next time you call with that info. If they still don't offer a free repair, he should be able to help you out.

I am in the same boat as you. Just passed the 2 week mark of the "repair in progress" phase. I called xbox support and they elevated me to "level 2" customer service and told me that I would be contacted by customer support within 48-72 hours. We will see if that actually happens! I just want my console back...

  • 11.10.2009 1:44 PM PDT

Yours was shipped back from Nashville??? thats weird, mine says it is being shipped back from Memphis, what does that mean??? new console??? cus looking at the time since i sent my xbox i dont there was enough time for it to get to mesquite and then to memphis in time for it to get fixed already

  • 11.10.2009 8:23 PM PDT

Kat: The real Noble Leadership.

Mine also made the mysterious trip from Mesquite to Tennessee. But when I spoke with UPS in Mesquite they said that particular service center had to drive the Xbox trucks some hours south to another service center. I don't know where Mesquite Texas is, but I doubt it's South of Tenn. Weird. Anyways, I doubt its a new console, otherwise the status of the repair on service.xbox.com would reflect a new serial right? Anyone clarify on this?

When my Xbox's repair order was discovered to have some sort of dangerous abnormality (which they never completely explained) I was also told that escalated customer service would contact me; this never happened. I also got hung up on by the Indian customer service twice trying to get in contact with Escalated customer service, despite asking to speak with their supervisors (who I never got to speak with.)

Anyways, if I were a person with this error, I would seriously reconsider sending my console to Microsoft. If I had this to do over, I'd just eat the 200 bucks and buy another Xbox. I'm starting to think of them as having a 1.5 year expiration date...
