Y'know guys this is the EXACT same -blam!- I had to put up with when Halo 3 was released. As soon as the cutscenes for the levels started the game would give me Disc Unreadable. And later when I started to load the missions at the opening menu, they would give me the same problem as soon as they had reached 100%
But this was ONLY with campaign. Forge and Multiplayer worked fine. But I was screwed out of the campaign story for a long time, and after numerous discs, calls to MS support, posts on Bungie forums I gave up.
And now I'm hearing that this is happening on ODST? Well I dunno about you, or anyone else. But I'm not taking the chance. I'm skipping this title.
Bungie got my hard earned cash once before, well they aint getting it this time I'm happy to say.
Now what I will say are some of the things I tried. And much of which did not work. Though hey, who knows, maybe this crap will help you out?
I was able to complete SOME missions by doing Co-Op and having a friend be the Host.
The Host was local and didn't report any problems with the game.
8 times out of ten I would still get the disc unreadable error so you must just keep at it... I know, it sucks but it depends on how much you want to see the story.
Downloading the Halo3 game to the HD didn't work at all. Infact Bungie.net recommends that I don't do it, because it's incompatible and will not improve performance... How? I dunno, thats just what it said. Since ODST is pretty much built on the same engine I imagine there will be problems too.
Removing the HD didn't work. Nor did using a Memory stick.
Seven discs later. Two of them being rentals and one disc from Love Film and to this day Halo 3's campaign doesn't work.
For the record.
The 360 I own is less than one year old.
Brand new and under warrenty.
I have had little to nearly no problems with other game discs. Sure I might have had Fallout 3 freeze up or glitch out but that's normal. (Just have a look at their support page to find that out...)
Games that I own and work are: The Darkness, Lost Planet, The Orange Box, Dead Space, Oblivion, Left4Dead, Halo3, Fallout3, Command & Conquer 3, Condemned 2, Call of Duty 4, Batman Arkham Asylum, GoW 1 & 2, Silent Hill Homecoming, Halo Wars, and well... you get the idea. All of them work, and many more besides.
The hardware is just peachy.
I'd be willing to reckon. It's Bungie have cocked up their coding of the game.
I reckon they have some explaining and nervous sweating to do...
But enough out of me, I just hope one of the solutions I gave might help some of you out. It's a longshot, but I don't see Bungie offering better...
Take care guys, and good luck.
