Well this sucks, first my problems were all similar to the rest of you folks. But now my game wont even make it past the Bungie intro cinematic without it saying "Disc is unreadable" .
Gah eff you first generation 360s -_-'' you have failed me.

First item: As a customer service representative, be aware that the Bungie Team is just as frustrated as you are at this situation.

Second item: When you are dealing with terabytes of digital computer code, chaos WILL enter the system. I am personally amazed that the problem is not MORE widespread.

Third Item: I would put real money on the bet that this is a coding situation resulting from errors between certain x-box consoles, updates, and disc encoding. This will be a nightmare to unravel, and I will put further money on the fact that right now, several programmers at Bungie have been called in and are even now experiencing premature baldness. Bosses are standing over thier shoulders with pink slips tied to massive banhammers.

Fourth Item: I'm 49 years old. I love Halo. But I have yet to buy ODST because I know that ANYTHING new built on top of existing technology will have a greater than 50% chance of having bugs in it, even after years of testing.

Fifth item: This is all just a bad dream. You will wake up in the morning, drenched in sweat, and all will be right in the universe.

There is a simple fix to this problem. I've already tried this with my friends (5 of them) and it works 100% of the time.
Flash your Xbox so it can play backup games.
If you are interested email me at: Laderer5@hotmail.com

It is 100% Legal as long as you own the game you backup (aka ODST)

I will provide further info if you email me.
***And you won't get banned unless you pirate random games online.
Also it won't void your warranty since people who have been doing this a while have found ways around the "warranty sticker".

Also contact me on AIm if you want : CamLad7

Actually its really easy if you have the right equipment...

There's also a rumor that you can boil your x-box, or something like that.

  • 09.27.2009 5:32 PM PDT

Now my copy of Rock Band 2 is experiencing DRE....I am thinking I should just send in my Xbox to Microsoft to fix it, or possibly replace it

Boiling your Xbox?.....think about that for a moment..

Flashing your Xbox is the bets bet, just backup your game and play thats it!

  • 09.27.2009 5:49 PM PDT

What is this flash Xbox and backup game business? And customer support guy. Are you sayiing your sure about all that stuff you said?

Flashing Xbox 360 = Play Backup games as if they were origonals.
This would remove any affects any "bad disc" would incure if you made a good backup.

If you want me to flash your Xbox 360 for you send me a message.

No it is fine, but if this gets crazy and stuff I will think about it. I will save that email for now.

  • 09.27.2009 6:38 PM PDT

There are people with flashed 360's using backups and are still encountering this issue.

  • 09.27.2009 6:57 PM PDT

well makes sense because if this problem is in the codeing then no matter how many copies you make it will still be INFECTED lol

The error could pop up again later in the game. See how far you can get.

If the problem was an update from like a month ago and Bungie decides to fix it with another one, I hope they make it as their first priority to release it asap instead of bundling it with all the other fixes like lag and thus release it even later.

Because that would suck. =/

In war, it doesn't matter who's right, it matters who's left.

I tried removing my Hard Drive from the 360, and the game works perfectly! But when I put the Hard Drive back into the 360 it had the same problem, some missions were unbeatable. i sent Test Ninja the message from the first post, hopefully the most serious thing to do is just buy a new Hard Drive, since my Hard Drive is about 3 to 3 in a half years old and only 20GB and not buy or repair the Xbox.

EDIT: The level that I started to get the Disc Unreadable was Uplift and Reserve at the really end during the cuscene where it turns all white.

Well my copy of Rock Band 2 started working again so I decided to play ODST. I got further than I had ever gotten before! I got to the past the loading screen after the cutscene when he gets his helmet and then it DRE'd again. I was so hopeful :( It is weird that the problem isn't even consistent within consoles

  • 09.27.2009 8:48 PM PDT

do something bungie

  • 09.27.2009 9:27 PM PDT

i gave up on bungie and just ended up watching the ending since it looks like its never gonna be fiexed

  • 09.27.2009 9:32 PM PDT

i get the disc unreadable right at the end of data hive, this is my 3rd copy of the disc, it did after i downloaded it to my hard drive same place, i erased it off my hard drive , re installed, same thing with all copies of game, noticed after removing it that i had no odst file under game saves yet the game says i made it to data hive when i play it. i do have 20 gig drive....is bungie going to fix this?
