Yeah I think that my 360 has slowly started a downward spiral since ODST came out. First it was ODST, then Halo 3, then some demos got the DRE (because that makes sense) and now Rock Band 2 is having problems. I am thinking of just returning the game before it completely destroys my 360 and just get my money back for Brutal Legend. Hopefully it doesn't have problems when it comes out

It may be in bungie's best interests to release some more info on the problem and an ETA for the fix very soon, as im sure alot of you (myself included) will be returning the game to get a full refund. I really dont want to do it, but if the game doesnt work, i dont want to have shelled out £35 for a table coaster. :/

I think that more people need to reply to test ninja alpha on page 9. the more info we get to them the quicker the fix will be. and as much as I hate to say it, if I have to return the game after watching this thread for a week and dealing with multiple returns at the store already, I don't believe I am going to re-buy the game later even if it does work. Especially considering that I have already spent so much on Halo 3 and all the downloadable content that you HAVE to purchase to play online. It feels like they are trying to force us to spend even more money. I am going to take the money and spend it on school supplies for my son.
Anyone from bungie have any update? Even just a hello guys and gals, were still working on it. Good luck bungie hope to hear from you soon.

I am not actually having problems with Halo 3: ODST but I am having similar problems with my copy of Halo 3.

I bought an Xbox Arcade console 2 months ago and bought Halo 3 off a friend a few days ago who had it working fine up until his Xbox RRoD'd. But for some reason the campaign hates me and it reports a disc read error right as the Halo ring fades out signaling the level has loaded.

In the format Test Ninja Alpha requested:

1. I've decided to go through what happened in detail as some details are majorly different (to what I've seen in the old Halo 3 DRE reports), and also in case any other info is helpful. First, when I started it for the first time it asked to download an update from Xbox live. Worked fine. Then when it got to the menu after the update it said something about the mythic map pack being available to owners of Halo 3: ODST (which I do not have nor have I ever played a borrowed friend's version). After an unknown authentication process it said I was allowed to access the map pack (from where I don't know, but it turned out to be a false positive anyway). Starting the Solo Game showed the loading screen (Halo ring hologram being assembled). It faded out and the DVD drive began to spin down right when the first cut scene was meant to appear. Then the disc read error popped up. After being kicked to the dashboard I loaded it up again and watched as it started fine. I decided to try something else, went through all the multiplayer levels in Forge and found nothing wrong, the DVD drive never slowed down to pick up damaged parts of the disc on any map and loading times for levels were lightning fast. Also, I saved a few Forge variants and cannot find them on my memory unit, and after loading Halo 3 again they are gone.
I went to get it professionally cleaned (had 1 light scratch) and after it came back there was still the same error but everything loaded twice as fast. Cleared the cache, even formatted my memory unit and reinstalled all system updates but it refuses to let me play the campaign.

2. I don't have a hard drive but I tried starting Halo 3 without the MU and it behaved in the exact same way.

3. I am playing Halo 3, but I'm suspecting that if I played Halo 3: ODST I'd get the same results.

Other notes: Halo Wars still works fine (went through some thorough testing after my Xbox started behaving weird with Halo 3), that's the only other game I have.

I forgot to say that the chick working at TRU noticed something about my DRE copy of ODST. It was manufactured in Mexico. My new, working copy of ODST was manufactured in Puerto Rico. Where were all of yours manufactured? You can see this information on the back of the case in the bottom, right corner on the Proof of Purchase. It will say "Made in _". I'm just curious if it is a manufacturing plant issue at a specific location.

All 360 games shipped in the US were made in Mexico, including the original Halo 3. Try checking your other games. If you were having problems with those then you shouldn't be having problems now. The manufacturer origin has nothing to do with this.

My buddy's copy works fine for him. I have tried his copy and I get the same issue.

It is NOT an issue with the Disc.

Well more bad news. It seems gamestop caught wind of whats going on and wont return my disc, because there is supposedly a patch coming or something. So the best I could do is a 33$ trade in. So I was like wtf, this sucks. So, Ill wait till friday, and if theres still no fix or response from anyone, then 33$ will be fine for this paperweight. Thanks Bungie.

I was co-oping with a friend and managed to get through, but always whenever I finish a level on solo I get the DRE as its loading Mombasa.

If your having campaign issue, try co-op with a friend to see if it works.

I have a question to everyone having this issue. How many of you are playing on a refurbished 360? I sent my old 360 back 1 year ago after getting a red ring, and considering a good deal of people mentioned possible hardware combinations, I thought it was worth a shot.

Ive heard of newer and older consoles having this issue. Seems like mostly older tho. Mine is refurbished from microsoft but the mfg is 3/08 so its not that old.

Wow that is bull-blam!-. If I go back to Best Buy and they dont give me a full refund I will freak out on them. How is it our fault that they sold us broken game? This is really unfair and that patch thing is most likely a lie

How do you save and quit if you have a disc read error?

  • 09.28.2009 8:05 AM PDT

Well my ODST was made in Mexico. And all the games that I have either don't say anything (Madden 10 and Fight Night Round 4), or Made in USA (GTA 4). Halo Wars and Gears of War 2 I don't know because they are limited editions and I don't have the cover cases with me at my dorm. This might mean something cause they all aren't made at the same factory in Mexico, or shipped in the same vehicles, or take the same route even. So that brings up the condition the games were in during production and shipping. But doesn't explain why it will work on a different Xbox 360. Another piece to a puzzle we haven't even started to put together.

Bungie needs to throw us a bone here. Yeah im sure they are working on it, but a forum mod collecting data is not a response to me. This is really starting to get on my nerves.

  • 09.28.2009 8:41 AM PDT

I'm having the same problem this is not good business for bungie i still did not play fire fight mode or finished the single player

  • 09.28.2009 8:55 AM PDT

Since it seems like stores are not taking games back and we have to wait for Bungie or Microsoft to say something lets do something to past time. A bet (for no money of course). Who here thinks the thread will reach 2000 posts before we even get a word from Bungie or Microsoft on the situation? I will go with we wont make 2000 posts. I hope I am right.
