I am not actually having problems with Halo 3: ODST but I am having similar problems with my copy of Halo 3.
I bought an Xbox Arcade console 2 months ago and bought Halo 3 off a friend a few days ago who had it working fine up until his Xbox RRoD'd. But for some reason the campaign hates me and it reports a disc read error right as the Halo ring fades out signaling the level has loaded.
In the format Test Ninja Alpha requested:
1. I've decided to go through what happened in detail as some details are majorly different (to what I've seen in the old Halo 3 DRE reports), and also in case any other info is helpful. First, when I started it for the first time it asked to download an update from Xbox live. Worked fine. Then when it got to the menu after the update it said something about the mythic map pack being available to owners of Halo 3: ODST (which I do not have nor have I ever played a borrowed friend's version). After an unknown authentication process it said I was allowed to access the map pack (from where I don't know, but it turned out to be a false positive anyway). Starting the Solo Game showed the loading screen (Halo ring hologram being assembled). It faded out and the DVD drive began to spin down right when the first cut scene was meant to appear. Then the disc read error popped up. After being kicked to the dashboard I loaded it up again and watched as it started fine. I decided to try something else, went through all the multiplayer levels in Forge and found nothing wrong, the DVD drive never slowed down to pick up damaged parts of the disc on any map and loading times for levels were lightning fast. Also, I saved a few Forge variants and cannot find them on my memory unit, and after loading Halo 3 again they are gone.
I went to get it professionally cleaned (had 1 light scratch) and after it came back there was still the same error but everything loaded twice as fast. Cleared the cache, even formatted my memory unit and reinstalled all system updates but it refuses to let me play the campaign.
2. I don't have a hard drive but I tried starting Halo 3 without the MU and it behaved in the exact same way.
3. I am playing Halo 3, but I'm suspecting that if I played Halo 3: ODST I'd get the same results.
Other notes: Halo Wars still works fine (went through some thorough testing after my Xbox started behaving weird with Halo 3), that's the only other game I have.
