IM GODS CHILD BUT YEA I GOT DEVILISH GAME

My friend was also having this problem. Lots of DRE. At first, it was letting him play a little bit, then it gradually got worse so he thought it was his xbox. He went and bought an elite and now it works fine. I imagine one of the updates from microsoft didnt install right for some people. I would blame it on microsoft, not bungie. Theyre should be an option on the xbox to reinstall updates, so that way you can be sure it wasn't a corrupted update or something.

Wouldn't clearing the cache uninstall the update? I have heard that hasn't fixed the problem as well, but to everyone here going through the hell of not being able to play for more than a few minutes, best of luck

  • 09.28.2009 9:36 AM PDT

Clear cache clears game updates not system.

  • 09.28.2009 9:42 AM PDT

i dont actually own a copy of the game since my 360 broke a few months ago and i haven't had the time to buy a new one, but ive thought about the situation and the following has come to mind:

1.ODST seems to be breaking on some xboxs that us the HDD and not the MU, this leads me to believe that the error occurs somewhere between the I/O instructions between ODST and the HDD

another thing that leeds me to believe that is, that DRE errors show up in other games/demos. I think some information should be investigated to see what models the drives are for each of the HDD (not sure how).

Another option might be for someone who has access to a xbox360HDD reader for the PC, copy the disk image, then run ODST "ONCE" and then access the HDD again copy the disk image and see what kind of difference in data there is.

Since this is affecting other games it could be ODST is overwriting some of the file-system files on the HDD or overwriting in areas it shouldnt be.

Just my two cents.

My 360 is from when they first came out. It is up to date with the system updates. I had no problems with my 360. The only problem I had with ODST was that the maps were loading very slow. All I did to stop that was clear my cache. Now it works perfectly. "knocks on wood" I hope the best for guys whose disc's don't work. Just wanted give info that ODST works on my 360 which is one of first ones to come out. Hope this my help bungie in finding a fix.

I forgot to mention that my xbox is the premium with 20 gig. Also I did have DRE at first but all I did was take it out, spit on it, and then wiped it with my shirt. Lol. I think I got very lucky with this. I still hope for the best for you guys.

okay, i've hit a dead end as of 5 minutes ago.

Microsoft tech support lady says that I have a hardware fault with my box and in this case it is not covered by my warranty. So I'm going to Game tomorrow to trade in an almost working 360.

This sucks and if this is the final solution that Micrsoft come up with I think it's a sucky situation for all of us with dodgy 360's.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news folks but I think that may be the only option.

So what is happening with this does anyone know? I puschased and then rented the game and have had the same problem with both. I also downloaded the disk and it goes to disc unreadable right away.

  • 09.28.2009 10:22 AM PDT

There was a thing on the Amazon reviews. Dunno if the guy was a customer or a member of staff. He said it wasn't the disc and his idea was it was the firmware in the disc drive, so it probably isn't anything to do with Bungie, my only problem is that it won't only effect ODST (find out with Fifa), but I am trying to save a way to get a super elite. My birthday then christmas....maybe

If that is the case, than I REFUSE to purchase another xbox. As big of a fan of Halo and the xbox system, I am too stubborn to accept that. If microsoft won't at the very least fix it for free than I will simply stop buying all of their products.
I will however, wait for someone to give an official answer before I decide to do that.

  • 09.28.2009 10:32 AM PDT

Yea don't go and trade that Xbox for $70 unless you really want to. The customer support people half the time say something is broken and you have to send it in. I remember one time a lady told me I got banned but my Xbox LIVE account was just expired. If you want call them a few more times and see what they all say.

  • 09.28.2009 10:40 AM PDT

They will give any response that gets Microsoft money, remember they go by a script. I got told to do the disc replacement program.

  • 09.28.2009 10:42 AM PDT

I am almost 100% certain it has to do with the recent system updates (not the most recent one specifically, but a string of the last few). This is both a blessing and a curse. If it is the updates, then we will just have to wait until Microsoft works out another update that fixes the consoles. On the downside, patches usually take a few weeks to test and even then, it may not fix all the consoles problems

  • 09.28.2009 10:42 AM PDT

There has to be a way to get the console back to the original dashboard so we can redownload the updates and see if that is it.

I'm a big fan too, had ODST since launch and haven't been able to play a second of the game, I'm gutted to be honest, I'll have to invest in a new xbox when I get paid. feel free to add me on live so we can all play the game together when this is finally over!

You can try the factory reset code if you like.

go to the settings tab, console settings, information then

press LT,RT,X,Y,LB,RB,Y,UP,LEFT,UP

It'll ask if you want to proceed say yes and it should reset your Xbox to factory settings. not sure if it wipes the internal memory as it still keeps the NXE, but it may work for some. Not me unfortunately. see here for Youtube vid of it.

What will that do? Does it clear updates, my HDD, or what? I thinking of trying it if it doesn't make me lose anything from my HDD or break my Xbox in some way.

Halo 3 disk works perfectly. ODST Campaign disk worked perfectly. I completed the campaign without a glitch. The problem I am having is the Multiplayer Disk being un-readable. A message comes up saying "please insert disk into an X-box 360 to play disk" even though it is already in one.
I went through all the trouble shooting and still the same. xbox is elite with a 2007 production date.

Well, it's true that it's not widespread. At every launch of a major title these issues seem to creep up and affect a small portion of the Xbox 360 player base.

That said, I didn't want to run this messaging in the update because I know it doesn't matter a lick to the players who are experiencing issues. Small number or not, you can't play and that's frustrating.

Unfortunately, I don't have a great update for you. We're still working with our publisher to figure out what the best steps for mitigation are. As soon as we get concrete information, we'll be sure to pass it along.

Apologies for the long and undoubtedly frustrating wait.
