Tick-Tock. You know, I don't want to replace my 360 with a PS3 either. I love the Halo series and Halo CE is the reason I bought the first XBox. I waited to buy my 360 until Halo 3. But Halo is the ONLY series that has kept me tied to the Xbox. If M$/Bungie are releasing software that can damage my hardware and are refusing to take responsibility by ignoring the problem, then you are forcing my hand. It seems that my hardware is already ruined. Its not like I could just return my game and forget this whole business. This game FRIED MY SYSTEM!!!! Why would I have it repaired with the possibility that it could happen again when I put this game back in the tray. And I would have to PAY for this repair. Some people on this thread have written about having to repair their XBox 2, 3 or more times. Please tell me in what other industry is that sort of hardware failure acceptable? Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.

Dude please save it, Bungie doesn't give a blam if they could come up with an add on for this junk game that made them $50 dollars they would work on that before they did this issue. They proved how much they care from the beginning when they made a point to have the WIKIPEDIA section on this issue removed instead of just fixing the blam issue. Wouldn't you think they would have been WORKING ON THE ISSUE NOT WORRYING ABOUT WIKIPEDIA AND A QUICK COVER UP????? WRONG BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN SUED MORE THAN ONCE AND CAN BE AGAIN SO THEY LEAD US TO BELIEVE ITS ONLY 20 UNLUCKY PEOPLE WITH THE ISSUE WRONG AGAIN. This junk map pack ODST that cost $60 and it ruined a lot of peoples Xbox's and all of us have played a lot of games by a lot of developers and had no problems. It's lucky we have companies like INFINITY WARD that we can rely on for a game that doesn't crash our 360 plus good customer service and a game that's an upgrade from the one that came out ten years ago.

I returned my copy before gamestops 7 day limit was up. However, several of my other games, like Chromehounds, and Fallout aren't working due to these -wonderful- DRE's. I mean, seriously. Three weeks? Three whole weeks? I've lost quite a bit of faith in pre-ordering games, despite the attractive "bonuses" that are offered. It looks like a fun game, was fun for the short time that I was able to load a firefight or two, but whatever. If they fix it, I'll pick it up when I find it in the clearance bin somewhere in the future. The lack of information is depressing, and the whole incident looks like Microsoft is trying to bury it, and swearing Bungie to secrecy in the matter. /rant end.

so i came up with this idea its been working for me... and it should hopefully work for u guys... at least the people who like system links or at least want to beat odst whose having this issue with the disc read error and wat not

1)if you have a connection to the internet... ethernet cable or wirless, turn off xbox then disconnect your xbox, take the ethernet cable out or remove the wireless from teh back of the xbox...

2}turn on xbox put game in and see if u can play it/check the firefight maps even see if u can download to HDD... if u can then put in the multiplayer and see if it works check all teh maps...

3) send me a msg to tell me if this works for your or if it doesnt...
if it works without net connection then its most likely something on xbox live thats messing the game up or something with the internet

plus u have to remove teh ethernet cable it wont work if u just log off your live account

ive tried that it only plays if u remove anything that connects u to the internet
i know this probablly isnt the best to read oh well its worth the try not like your going to really be losing anything if it doenst work

I think the best solution would be, if you provide proof of your purchase online, then they should give you a code to download the full game. Kind of like their games on demand service.

This way, if you type in a certain number, like a serial number, on an online form. When you hit submit, they can give you a code that you can type in on your Xbox Live account, which then would allow you to download both discs from the internet onto your 360.

Did you post in the right thread? I don't see how this is relevant to the topic. I don't see how downloading the game from demand is going to help when the game itself still doesn't work. People have experienced DRE from the HDD, myself included, which makes no sense.

Yes but all of this could be from installing/downloading it from a faulty disc. Being able to download it would bypass the problems with the faulty disc by just getting the source files. What are you smoking? There is a huge difference between directly downloading the game from Xbox Live, than installing/downloading it from the faulty disc itself.

Read thoroughly before speaking out of turn.

EDIT:
In the end you would bypass the disc that could be faulty, and download it from Xbox Live. Rather than installing it from the disc that has the problems.

Another possibility is, you could Mail the disc to Xbox Customer Support and they could send you a Card with an activation code to download it from Xbox Live.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to not have to use the DVD Drive inside the Xbox 360.

I thought we ruled out faulty discs given the fact that people that have exchanged for multiple replacement discs still encountered the same problems. I also know there've been reports that marketplace demos such as for Brutal Legend have also been afflicted with DREs since ODST came out. I can say personally that replacing my discs didn't help. I don't know about the validity of demos DREing since I haven't expierenced any happening (yet). Point is making ODST an on demand game isn't going to fix the problem for everyone.

They funny thing is that i reckon microfsoft should fix our xboxes for free because i gotta send it back and pay $100 for their mistakes! It's a load of -blam-. Also when is the damn update ! odst has been out for more than three weeks!

  • 10.15.2009 3:12 PM PDT

More people are coming on with this problem. My friend just texted me saying his ODST is doing it too after 2 weeks of it being fine. -blam!-S HITTING THE FAN BUNGIE/MICROSOFT!!!

Jeeze, still more people with errors popping up. Wonder if the problem is a ticking time bomb, maybe those people without errors will soon have some trouble, then they can join us in this forum. Awesome!?

Lols, I think I'm right. A couple people I know with elites are having trouble now, it was working before too, watched them complete the campaign. Slowly, everyone will start having troubles probably.

Oakland Athletics will win the World Series.

this is a sad farce. i have no idea why anyone who is not trapped into keeping the game through lousy return policies is still holding onto this game. actually i shouldn't call it a game. its just a disk. everyone should just return it if they can and wait for a new game. i am starting to think that maybe bungie and microsoft just produced blank disks and shipped them hoping that no one would notice.

Just got ODST, put it in and doesn't load past the opening scene of the first mission. "Clean Disk"

1) Installed to hard drive. Same problem
2) Removed hard drive. played through first mission
3) Tried with hd installed again. Problem occurs again.
4) Starting to get "Clean Disk" in other game: Halo 3, Brutal Legend, Eternal Sonota, Rock Band, etc. This did not occur before playing ODST

Seems like ODST does something to the hard drive or lens(some have said it might be because of the new discs running on older 360's, which I have)

Yes, I agree with it being Stosh's fault.

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

Com on Bungie, I can't finish the damn game? It's on NMPD HQ. We need an update or something cause this -blam!- is getting ridiculous.

Bungie won't give you your money back, but your retailer should.

You need to return it to the store you bought it from ASAP.

Incase many of you didn't know, but Halo 3 did have a similar problem with its campaign mode.

My brother recently bought this game and handed it to me, played.... Okay, got a couple of DRE's here and there, but up until you first play as Romeo it wasn't consistent.

Now everytime I approach the door to exit the building from an interior section filled with dead marines and ammo (Buck's dialogue states "grab some gear, these boys don't need it anymore.")
The game freezes, and roughly fifteen seconds later. Disc Unreadable.

I've since warned my brother not to purchase anything from Bungie. Halo 3 was a serious upset for me, so I had no intention of buying ODST. But now that my suspicions were confirmed, I've warned everyone I know about being wary of this game company. And I most certainly will NOT be buying or even renting Reach upon it's release.

If you feel that Bungie is giving you a deaf ear on this subject, then I hope you learn your lesson and do the same thing.

I who walk alone in this world wrapped in the arms of the past not knowing what lies ahead of me. What am I? A soulless being to be beaten by the rage of those who hate me? Cutting my way past hopes and dreams. Sit in the window sill as I do every day and night resignations on my slate of who I am and what is left behind. Concealed in the words that chases my every thought. I who walk alone in this world…I am broken

I have never had this happen to me and i have a 360 from the very starr
