PCI has a slower bus clock rate, while PCI-Express, has a much more quicker bus speed.

Best graphics card on the market is actually the nVidia 7800GTX, but it's soon to be trumped and officially raped by the ATi R520 cores...

I'd never buy a card from either of two competing companies until the newest of both are released. Then I'd decide on which one I wanted. ATI always seems to be one step ahead -.-

Haha, true, the new lines are all rolling out and will be here late summer and early fall. Prices for the first-gen PCI-express GPUs will drop again.

Whatever you do, DON'T GET A GEFORCE FX 5200! For the love of god, don't do it. It seriously is a piece of -blam!-. Alot of poeple are fooled by it and it's cheap for a reason. I've played Halo with it and it was absolutely terrible. And the rest of the pc is great - P4 3ghz with HT and a gig of ram, so yes it is the card

Also don't buy stuff at retail stores. They are such a ripoff when compared to places like newegg.com. Whoever was talking about the x700 costing $200, that is a terrible price. You can buy a Radeon 9800 Pro (AGP only I know) which is MUCH better for about $127 on newegg.

As for the thread starter, I'd recommend either the Radeon 9550 or the Geforce Fx 5700 LE. I'd give the edge to the 9550 though.

One more thing. You can't expect to play any game that's come out in the past few years with integrated graphics. The only reason they're there is for movies and other minor visuals, not games.

are there any good PCI-Express cards that are $100 or less, or should i wait for a bigger budget?

my preferences/requirements:
*Radeon cards
*PCI-Express
*higher than X300SE
*Want to play halo at a minimum of 1024*768 res, settings maxed out, with good framerates
*Can be overclocked with Catalyst's OVERDRIVE technology

to get the drivers, find out who makes your gpu. either nVidia, ATI, or Intel most likely. and go to their website and match the chipset to download the drivers.

www.nvidia.com
www.ati.com
www.intel.com

To the poster, and anyone else with a similar issue. i would not recommend getting a pci graphics card. they are too expensive compared to their performance. i'd wait and get an agp or a pci express card.

I build computers for people, and so i'll provide you with my inventory list of all the agp and pci-e cards that i use in my systems.

AGP

nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 128mb $49
nVIDIA GeForce 6200 128mb $73
nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 128mb $150
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT 256mb $295
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra 256mb $445

ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb $126
ATI Radeon X800 PRO 256mb $289
ATI Radeon X800 XL 256mb $277
ATI Radeon X800 XT 256mb $399
ATI Radeon X850 XT 256mb $424
ATI Radeon X850 XT PE 256mb $439

PCI-E

nVIDIA GeForce 6200 128mb $110
nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 128mb $169
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT 256mb $359
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra 256mb $469
nVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 256mb $599
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra 512mb $709

ATI Radeon X300 128mb $65
ATI Radeon X600 128mb $79
ATI Radeon X700 256mb $119
ATI Radeon X800 XL 256mb $325
ATI Radeon X850 XT 256mb $435
ATI Radeon X850 XT PE 256mb $569

You should be able to find prices similar to these at an online retailer (newegg = best)
im not sure whether id go with pci-e or agp. it really depends on the other options you're looking at. i think the 9800pro 128mb is a good deal for $126. i have a 9800XT in mine and i love it. 1280x1024 everything full 60fps all the time. hope this helps. you can email me if you have any questions.
