Please remember that it's only a concept art, not a finished model. With more time, the art/3-D designs will become more refined. I do agree that it needs to be sleek like most of the Covenant weapons.

Good idea although there should be a time frame for how long the people with the mist have it for, I'd say like 30 seconds is good. Also, what do you mean 2 rounds of a needler? It takes 1 clip to kill someone, so when you say 2 rounds do you mean 2 clips?

The giant needle does damage upon immediate blast range and impact right?

I don't read the books, but thats sound more like my first idea. I would be an anti-vehicle weapon, since so many people think the fuel rod gun is anti-personnel. Maybe a five round chamber instead of three because you need to kill in one mag. Since they are needler, they should have slight tracking, a little more than normal neddlers, but ONLY on vehicles. And while double-action is great for most games, Halo is more about simplicity. They should explode when they are near a vehicle and miss, not on a direct shot, although that would be very hard to do. Explode when they hit objects. I do think your idea is better than our original design. You take it down to one ammo type, one trigger, and NO PINK HAZE. I thought that was stupid idea in the first place. Your concept art, though it might be low quality, is a good start. Have the needles sticking out of the sides, like the normal needler, but it should rotate. A big manual lever on the bottom would be like a bolt-action rifle, except slower, and would turn in and pull to the back of the gun to force new needles into the slots, and then launch back into position. I am verry happy you found something from Halo lore that can be used and interpreted in many ways. Again, even though I don't read the books, the lore is still important to me because of the game's storyline. Overall you took the weapon in the direction that I favor, yet is still roughly balanced. PLEASE NOTE: In an earlier post , I stated the large needle would have no homing whatsoever. However, that was when it was a anti-personell weapon; as a anti-vehicle weapon, homing is accepted.


I think it should only be 3 shots still... It would be a covenant missile pod basically and would be a personnel and vehicle weapon. I think it should detonate no matter what. It wouldn't be hard for them to explode when the hit objects, thats what spike grenades do. I guess they could slightly home on vehicles but I still like the manual detonation ability which would make it a more of a skill weapon, and not something you can just get and pwn anyone anytime since it is powerful. If the shard hit a vehicle and exploded the shard spray would be considerably less but the vehicle would take a great amount of damage if not destroy it. But in the book it basically stipulates that the shards from the explosion do the damage. Another reason for not wanting 5 rounds is because it would make it far more bulky. Unless you were to do something like it was the only weapon you could carry, but that would be stupid. Maybe you could have ammo in non convenient places so as to make it a struggle to get extra ammo, or no extra ammo at all and just leave it as is, a multipurpose weapon that will kill anything that gets in its way. It wouldn't be a key weapon like the missile pod but it would be more versatile then the missile pod and more powerful to compensate for the low ammo. The weapon should be sized for Grunts but be uncomfortable for them to use. Elites wouldn't use it because they never stray from their Plasma Rifles and Swords or Carbines, it's their way. Bigger than what is comfortable for a Grunt but compact enough for them to use as well as the Players in the game.

Hmm, that's very well thought out. I like the idea of it being a versatile weapon at the cost of ammo, but 3 shots seems like a waste. Four would probably be a happy medium, with a reload between every two, and the capacity for six maximum.

I second that. I will read through the Halo books that I have again and see if their are any more weapons that aren't defined that we could bring to life. Since the books differ almost entirely from the games other than story line the weapon ideas from the books would be absolutely fresh and untainted by what we know about Halo weapons. It's not like Eric Nylund is a god in playing Halo. Hell we could even ask Nylund what he had in mind for what the weapon would look like since he kinda created it. It would be cool to work with an author of the Halo books.

You realize then it's just a freaking rocket launcher right? The weapons in Halo aren't meant to be balanced in the sense of each side having the same stuff, that would be stupid and unreasonable. The chances of two completely different species creating the same weapons is highly unlikely. The balance that comes into Halo is from weapon placement not how a UNSC weapon is exactly like a Covenant weapon. Every weapon has its strengths and weaknesses. Six ammo? Way too much, and 2 shots before reload? Exactly like a Rocket Launcher. We're not trying to make another Rocket Launcher we're trying to make a weapon that is unique and fits into the Halo universe. The Missile pod has what 6 shots? It sucks for personnel but owns vehicles. It homes but you have to lock on and it is able to be dodged. It's not the end all be all of UNSC weapons and neither is the Spartan Laser which the Covenant have nothing like in their personnel armory. Bungie doesn't want a weapon that's exactly the same as one they have. They also don't want a weapon thats way to complicated to use. For instance the mist idea, wouldn't hold well in multiplayer who would carry a needler around just so they could kill the occasional person when someone fires these shards, its just not worth it. Weapons in Halo are usually pull trigger and kill. Not pull trigger spray people with a mist then have someone come up and kill the guys. Its just got too much that has to happen. Besides the platform for the weapon has been set via the Halo books. I think we should respect what was made first and just turn that into a reality. Some stuff can be speculation but no manifestation.

So on one hand, your flaming it for being just like the rocket launcher, and on the other your flaming it for being to complicated? Doesn't that seem a tad....... contradictory? The chances of the humans and the covenant having the same ammo amount before having to reload are not all that impossible to understand, though I do see your point about trying to make it more unique. I realize halo is built on point-and-shoot weapons, in fact, this so ingrained that the spartan laser was considered revolutionary because it had a charge-up time. What I am trying to do is create a weapon that has more depth than just point-and-shoot, while balancing it to be a fun weapon to use. Sure, it may not be perfect now, but that's the reason the post was made, to ask people their opinions. Thank you for giving yours.

See? Wouldn't this be a terror if hundreds of grunts came at you with this weapon? Not to mention hilarious at the same time. Too bad it's not in firefight. The suicide grunts wouldn't be as deadly as the chainsaw grunts.

Plasma Chainsaw Grunts > Suicide Grenade Grunts.
