Poll: Should Halo: Reach have a new engine?  [closed]
Yes, I don't want the same one used in H3 and ODST:  88%

No, the current one is just fine:  12%

Okay, I have to say that I personally was not happy to learn that ODST uses the same horrid engine as Halo 3. To me it was kind of lazy of Bungie, and it gives them an excuse to use the same weapon models, same enemies, same everything (except of course the ODSTs and architecture, and the two new weapons). If Halo: Reach uses the same engine I will be very disgruntled, I am beginning to grow tired of seeing the same damn warthog and same old assault rifle in every game of Halo I fire up these days.

What do you guys think?

The only reason ODST utilizes the same engine is because microsoft only gave Bungie a year to complete it.

That's true, but would it have been too much to ask to tweak weapon animations a bit, new sounds etc?

Well maybe, but I'm sure they would have rather spent the little time they had on creating a quality story and putting the levels together.
I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, that's just what I think.

There's No Problem That Can't Be Solved With An Abundance Of Weed and A Jetpack.

If you think that they are gonna used the same Engine in a entirely different game, your an idiot. The only reason ODST had the same engine was because it was an expansion. Reach is an entirely new game. It's probably gonna be unlike any other Halo game.

anybody who votes "no" is retarded.
hell, the H3 engine looked like crap even when the game was released. who wouldn't want a NEW engine?

but anyway FYI OP, it's been officially confirmed it'll use a brand new high quality engine (for once...).

OP, Your thread is kind of pointless, as Reach is confirmed to have a Brand-new AAA Engine, they are working from.

Microsoft wants Halo: Reach To be their version of "Killzone 2" Graphic wise, to kill the PS3.

So, basically, expect something amazing.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Bungie only gave bungie a year to complete it. That, and it's been in production almost since the launch of Halo 3. ODST uses Halo 3's engine because the Halo Reach Engine is (likely) not completely ready to be revealed. The question is, would you be happier with a "horrid" engine that works just fine, or one that is almost finished, but doesn't work at all?

Dedicated driver.

Halo has been using the same engine since Halo CE on the XBox, though the engine itself has seen major updates. I'm hoping they'll stick with the familiar feel of the Havoc Physics. If they change the engine they'll lose that golden Halo feel.

Can vegetarians eat animal crackers???

but if u think halo 3: odst has the phrase 'halo 3' in it of course it has to have the halo 3 engine because its just an expansion.. It's like saying fallout 3 needs a new engine when it has new DLC. Halo 3 odst was like new DLC but on a disk no difference to halo 3.. so if it had a new engine i'd be pissed and seriously if ur giving -blam!- about a pretty good engine that works seriously write one that u will like and make u stop complaining and give it to bungie..

all in all new engine for halo: reach because its a new game.. They did for halo: ce, halo 2 and halo 3 all different engines so there should be no reason for them not to do it again

This is probably the most retarded intelligible thread ever.

Reach does use a new engine, it's been confirmed. If Bungie follows their pattern it will be a heavily modified Halo 3 engine (just as Halo 3's is modified from Halo 2's and Halo 2's is modified from Halo 1's). There's also nothing intrinsically "crappy" about Halo 3's engine, it just focuses more on large levels with a huge draw distance populated by sophisticated physics than raw graphics.
