I decided to create this post addressing the different arguments that people have given in support of their particular views on subjects, in particular regarding the legendary ending=reach posts which make up the majority of this form.

Seeing as how most of you are what I call "New Age" theorists (in that you have come around after the glory days of logical, documented, formated, debates on "Halo theology"), this is a good referance. If you can not understand the basic concept of what my post says then you, more often than not, should not be posting in "theory" posts.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A POST IN REGARDS TO ONE THEORY OVER ANOTHER BUT RATHER THE VALIDITY OF ARGUMENTS AND COUNTER-POINTS AS ACCEPTABLE SUPPORT. DO NOT BEGIN A DEBATE ABOUT THEORIES HERE, MAKE YOUR OWN POST.

Point/Example 1
HALO: REACH TIME TRAVEL THEORY is wrong because Halo: Reach is a prequel.

There are several presubpositions here. The first is that Halo: Reach is a prequel from every perspective and therefore does not allow a continuation of any kind.
This is false in nature as everything is a prequel to something and a sequel to another thing. This depends on the point of view from which one is viewing it.

For example and in relation to this particular argument:

From the general universal perspective, Halo: Reach happens before to Halo: CE.

Here, we see that it is a prequel, however it could also be a sequel (most people make a mistake here and create a false dichotomy saying that they are mutually exclusive).

From John's perspective, he is continuing his story.

This would make it a sequel from John's perspective and a prequel from a universal perspective.*1 Something can exist both as a sequel and a prequel as the same time from varying perspectives.

This argument is NOT applicable because it relies on the assumption that Bungie is addressing all perspectives which can neither be proven or disproven or even addressed to any degree. Please refrain from posting these types of comments in topics where the creator deserves to have a place where he/she can logical debate facts. They have taken the time to make the post, they've earned it. If you want to debate the issue (an undebatable one I might add due to limits in information) make your own thread.

Point 2
"PROOF"

I refuse to even respond to the original poster's comments unless I believe there is some hope in salvaging them. You have no "proof" of anything. All you have is "evidence". Do not be so naive as to automatically assume everything you believe is right. The only "proof" that anyone may claim to have is when saying something like, "Master Chief is a Master Chief". You can find actual quotes from in-game and the books that directly (NOT indirectly) state this.

This is the only "proof" (actually should be defined as "fact") anyone can claim at which point you should not even post it because it something everyone knows that has been released by Bungie. All you have is speculation supported by evidence. A theory is a theory until it is proven or disproven, no matter how widely accepted/denounced and supported/unsupported it is.

Point 3
Know What Is Canon

There have been several "theories" posted that immediately dismiss canon. Anything that has been released by Bungie is considered canon unless otherwise stated. This includes but is not limited to:

1. All of the published Halo novels
2. All Halo games created by Bungie
3. Videos and pictures created by or in assosiation with Bungie that have not been stated to be non-canon.

There are several reasons of why this is important:

1. You can not dismiss something determined to be canon by Bungie simply because you don't agree or haven't heard about it as one poster has done. At this point, you have created your own universe in which your "theory" falls into rather than that of Bungie's universe.

2. You can find a lot of fan created content on the interent, including that liscensed as Halo. However, Bungie is the authority on what is canon so knowing what THEY deem canon is the end all, regardless of what "trademarks" or "licenses" a particular product may have. Examples of this are Halo Wars and Halo: Legends along with ILoveBees and the Cortana Letters. Taking place in the Halo Universe and being canon are two different things, do not confuse them. This is VERY important as it can solve many debates before they even arise.

TO BE CONTINUED LATER.

*1
The fact is that no one knows from which view Bungie has released the documented point that it is a prequel. It could be a marketing ploy to surprise consumers when they buy the game and end up playing, to the delight of the consumer, as John 117 having traveled back in time. They wouldn't have lied, but they wouldn't have told the entire truth, perhaps ruining their marketing strategy and suprise twist that Bungie is known for. It is equally as likely that it is simply a prequel, from all perspectives, made to retell an epic battle involving more Spartans (again, marketing strategy... consumers want to play with others Spartans; give them other Spartans as they fall into canon where you already have a story and setting created).
