I have recently installed halo on my pc, I play single player, it runs smooth, but for multiplayer I have a problem. It shows the small little box that shows at the begining of the multiplayer session "checking for updates, one moment please" after that I notice the MOTD "Manual Update Required! Get it from http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo/downloads.asp"

I check it out, and I see:

"Halo Hot-Fix v1.07: Halo Hot-Fix v1.07: The Halo for Windows v1.07 Hotfix addresses a rare hang that could occur if a malicious individual (hacker) purposely imitates a game server and sends invalid data to a server. This hot-fix changes the version number of Halo for Windows and the Halo for Windows Dedicated Server to v1.07 from v1.06.

NOTE: Due to an incompatibility discovered between some systems and the updated auto-patcher released with version v1.05, users of v1.05 will have to manually download an updated auto-patcher and run it from the Halo directory to receive this latest update. Users updating from the current 1.06 version, or versions prior to 1.05, can auto-patch from the game. This issue only affects users still running the old version 1.05.

Instructions for manually updating the Halo for Windows auto-patcher (for Halo v1.05):

Save the auto-patcher update file below to the game install directory, such as c:\program files\microsoft games\halo. Overwrite the existing file. Remember to "save" this file, don't try to "open" it directly from the Web site.
After saving the file to the proper location, double-click the exe to install. If you receive an error message (such as strings.dll not found) you likely did not save it to the proper game install directory.
Start Halo and the new updated auto-patcher should prompt you to update your version to v1.07.

Versions other than v1.05 can auto-patch, or download and run the file below.

I read over it, and I go down to the bottom
"Versions other than v1.05 can auto-patch, or download and run the file below.
Link - DOWNLOAD HOT-FIX v1.07 4.7 MB"

and download it from the link, I do as the steps above said, and click on the "haloupdate" file I installed in "C:\Documents and Settings\Hunters\Desktop\Jebs Documents\Halo Files\Halo" which is where I installed Halo too, and I get the message "Halo is not installed in this computer, this patch requires Halo to run."

I've tryed relocating my halo folder into Program Files, and reinstalling halo, it just doesn't work, please tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I need to fix.

Please help me, I'm sorry if I placed this thread in the wrong forum.

Sincerely,
John a.k.a Equanimity

C:\Documents and Settings\Hunters\Desktop\Jebs Documents\Halo Files\Halo is where I have all my halo files locates, such as halo.exe and strings.dll

I installed halo into that folder, and I put the "haloupdate" file I downloaded into that folder.

Try re-installing the game and then running the auto-patcher supplied with it.

Wow, mods are finally paying attention to The Maw. About time you people showed up.

Did you try the manual update? I think theres one which will update the game, you might have to explore the Halo disc, but youll find an app which has a Legendary icon. Thats the manual update. It works as a stand-alone, without even opening up the game.

I have tried both those methods, I don't know what to do, nothings working t.t, when I click the haloupdate file that came with the game I get a message "there was a problem with halo installation." and with the downloaded haloupdate file I get "halo is not installed on this computer. this patch requires halo to run."

I think halo is supposed to be in a different folder. Try installing it to: C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Halo
