I was also disappointed by Halo 3: ODST.
I had always had doubts about ODST ever since they said it would be a full priced game. When it was first mentioned that it would be around $40, I thought that seemed right for an expansion. But $60 plus tax was pushing it.
But, I decided to give Halo 3: ODST a chance. After a few days of deciding if I should buy ODST, I finally gave in to my Halo Spirit. I bought the game.
I first headed into Campaign, and started on Normal Difficulty. I have yet to beat the game, but I've probably spent about 4 or 5 hours so far. I'm almost finished with the game with two levels remaining in Campaign.
I'm a little disappointed. There is really lack of innovation in this game, and there are many unecessary humor and side plots throughout the game. Campaign was just too dull for me, and was lacking that Halo Spirit. The Rookie Campaign was also dull with moments of lonliness and complete boredome.
Firefight was alright, adding something new to the mix, but it soon got repetitive and I decided to head over to -blam!- Zombies.
The disk that included all of the Halo 3 Multiplayer Maps was a nice component of the game, but I already have all of the DLC and getting three new maps was nice, but really wasn't worth it.
Finally, Halo Reach Beta. Who knows what will happen out in the future, so I hope that Halo Reach will regain some of my gaming spirit for Halo.
ODST is a fine example of how Halo fans will buy into anything that Bungie puts out in the gaming market. People have been brainwashed that anything released by Bungie, no matter how terrible the game, they will always say that the game is great. I think ODST is a great example. Even I fell victim to this. I bought the game. Now I regret it, so I'm thinking of selling it to my older brother.
Overall, I give this game a 6/10 for lack of innovation, short Campaign, No multiplayer, and repetiiveness and lack of anything new brought into the game. (With the exception of Firefight, but that falls into the catagory of repetitiveness.)
Remember, this is my opnion, please don't chew me out because of it.
All in all, I believe the game is a slightly below average game, and isn't worth the $60 Price Tag.
