I think that the health system in Reach will be different. I just don't know how. But here's how i hope it goes...

The shields should have the same recharge rate as in Halo 1. Very slow and at least 7 seconds before it starts re-shielding after being hit / taking damage.
There will also be a base health system. It will look similar to the one in Halo 1. And each "square", after being fully depleted, would have an effect on how you play.

Square 1: You walk slightly slower and minor redness to outer pats of HUD.
Square 2: Accuracy slightly worse and more redness.
Square 3: Slightly slower and slight more redness.
Square 4: Speed reduced to speed of crouch-walking, appear to limp.
Square 5: Screen blacks out every few seconds for a moment.

EDIT: All effects form previous square will carry on to next.

There will also be medpacks in the form of Bio-Foam. You can carry it as sort of Equipment. But you hold X to use (assuming Equipment is in game and still uses X). Then an animation begins, showing you or a friendly teammate applying the Bio-Foam. The applying should take about 10 seconds, and another 10 to gradually deplete the effects of being damaged.

SEE FIRST POST, MORE IDEAS.

HALO CE health, in corner.

My ideas for the squares were hastily made up.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I like it.

Maybe we could add hit locations to it as well?

Example: (All shots are to flesh, not shields)
Shots to legs reduce speed and jumping
Shots to arms reduce melee power, slow jacking and reloading
Shots to head reduce accuracy

that too.
the ones i did were related to pain and shock, not being shot in places. Your ideas as well to list.

Yours is better overall, since it is consistent and predictable. So if anything Bungie would probably utilize that one, but I have wanted location based effects for a while.

Imagine pumping rounds into a Flag Carrier's legs to slow him down.

The first idea is cool but I dont like the location based damage.

Nyan nyan, nyan nyan, ni hao nyan! Gorgeous, delicious, deculture!

Meh. While the idea itself is sound, I just don't think it fits into a Halo style game. I personally think that the Halo: CE system would work just fine.

For your idea, maybe a hyper-realistic sci-fi first-person-shooter would work better?

Maybe, IDK. Maybe only for a few seconds it happens.

Again, these are cool ideas.

If I had to bet on which one they would use, I would say Halo 1 health system.

Good bye..

I support this idea!

I don't like the idea of an animation when health is applied. Playing games like Resident Evil where the entire game stops for a few seconds just makes is so slow to me. It also gets really monotonous once you see the same scene over and over again.

...well, maybe the Bio-Foam would be the "take it with you" solution, but in bases and certain places on the map, there would be an instant kiosk thingy.

EDIT: When healing / being healed by Bio-Foam, it could be in 1st person, not like in L4d. K?

It came from the left.

It seems as if someone has been playing a tad to much Fallout. Fallout's location based damage and screen "hazing" ( when your head is crippled) works for that game because it is a role playing game. Halo is a run-and-gun shooter, where slowing down from injuries hurts the gameplay. You have half of one bar left. The screen blacks out every five seconds. That is a dumb ass idea. Why would I want to play a game where I can't see where I'm going just because I'm hurt?

1: I've never played fallout.
2:If you get shot at, your most likely not to survive the firefight anyway.
3: it will only black out for half a second.
4: thats your opinion.

The point is it hurts the gameplay. The limping from localized damage is a big part of the health system in Fallout, so I was just saying that. I don't care if you've never played it. A blacked out screen, even for half a second, will cause comfusion and complicate the game. And what the hell does number 2 have anything to do with it? You have shields for a reason. It's like in ODST, if your health is low, you play smarter and take cover, while letting your shields recover.

Maybe something you can be shot down and a team member can drag you on the ground while you shoot on a target. Also I think that the halo 3 health system is good enough.

...Maybe if you drag them and / or begin healing them before they respawn, that could work.

I like this idea. I din't at first but I read over the Square 1-5 part again and realized how cool this could be. Excpet for square 5, instead of "Blacking out" Every few seconds, how about your vision goes blurry every few seconds instead. That way you are still able to fight.

As for the anamation for applying Bio-fome, It should be similar to the part in ODST where one of the ODST's gets patched up by it. You should breifly look down and insert the nozzle into you armor.
Cool Idea, I hope it gets used!

^ this.

I don't like the idea of damage per limb. I like the way halo games play where it doesn't matter where you hit unless it is a headshot
