Well, the only real playable parts I see in the Reach game, if it is soley based on Halo:Reach the book, would be the battle of reach. Unless told from Multiple perspectives (John and Linda, blue and red teams etc.) the game would be incredibly short if kept canon.

Anyone else think that the story might delve into First Strike, or perhaps even Ghosts of Onyx? In all honesty, this game has probably been in production long enough (will be longer production time than ODST) to warrant a campaign equaling or surpassing that of Halo 3. What is everyone's thoughts on how the campaign will unfold?

Is the stuff that happened on the Rubble even within the same time frame as the events on reach?

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Or they could forge an exciting storyline, instead of basing it on that book.

Everything and nothing is canon for Bungie. They have the ability to retcon anything.
