I think this would be a gd thing to make matches more fair and stop tons and tons of arguments. Throughout my time playing Halo I've seen how annoying host can be and how fun it can be when you have it. I know people are going to say host does not give you an advantage it does end of there's tons of stuff to prove it.

throwning snowballs at cars is like doing a bell ditch. The end result is basically the same: sprinting away from the large man exiting his car who yells profanities, hiding behind a house, and watching as his car patrols the street, waiting to murder you.

Asking the flood for dating advice is like you going up to a bunch of starving Africans and debating the pros and cons of the bacon roll vs the double cheeseburger.

Some one who stands for nothing shall fall for everything.

yes servers=epic win!~!!!!!!

I have played other games with dedicated servers and you never get lag or anything that makes you scream and say bullsh** but i can tell people will vote no because there lame and like lag for some weird reason.

Servers mean once they get shut down...they get shut down....

with P2P networks, it's gonna last aslong as their are people playing also...their are other issues such as placement etc...

Bungie's talked about it and it's never gonna happen

  • 09.28.2009 7:16 AM PDT

nothing is impossible, we are talking about bungie here also maybe on custom games they could have P2P but for matchmaking make it dedicated so its fair but they need a more of a stable system more people vote and comment please.

Problem is from what I understand is that if they have their servers all in the U.S of A...then people like me who are stuck in Hong Kong will be screwed...I can't remember the exact reasons. The talked about it on a podcast awhile back...

  • 09.28.2009 7:27 AM PDT

Hmmm well they need to find some sort of system.

There is a way to do that...there's just alot of latency...I think 1 game's found a way around though....something like...30 per team...again...it's on the podcast

yes dedicated servers so we can increase the player limit to 16 ppl per team!!!

Section 8 has user created dedicated servers that can hold 32 players. Havent played the game but the concept of user dedicated servers like on pc would be really cool on the consoles.

This is one of those things that falls into the category of "Things that would be nice, but will never happen". Servers cost money. So if they had servers, then they would have to charge people who want to use them. Nobody wants that.

IMO, every first-party 360 game (at the least) should have dedicated servers. I don't pay £40 a year for Microsoft to use my Internet Connection to host their game.

If EA can put in dedicated servers for Battlefield 1943, a $10 game, then I don't see why Microsoft, one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, can't put some dedicated servers for a game that costs $60.

EA almost always uses dedicated servers, not because they are being nice, but because they can then shut them down when a newer version of a game comes out and then force people to buy that one if they want to continue playing. This is also not a desirable outcome.

Is amused by many of those arguing for no reason

But spread them out across the world, with great concentrations of servers in areas with a high population of beta testers and participants in Halo 3 matchmaking

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

People need to educate themselves on the nature of servers. They really don't solve any problems.

1. A server is massively expensive. Let alone having multiple servers (to counteract that having one won't solve half of the problems P2P hosting has) would be ridiculous to support. Who is going to pay for this? Why would they throw money at servers when they don't solve many of the problems P2P hosting has that people -blam!- and moan about?

2. When servers crash, everybody goes offline. No one is playing or will be able to play until they get the servers back up. If one person lags out in Halo, even if they are hosting a game, only one person lags out and the game still goes on. Not to mention, that one person can usually get right back online. Many times if a server crashes people aren't going to be able to get back online for hours or perhaps days depending on the problem.

3. Server maintenance. I'm sure everyone will be oh so happy that we are playing on servers when they shut them down regularly to perform maintenance so crashes (that will happen anyways) won't happen.

4. Hosting games on a dedicated server doesn't even fix a lot of the problems people have with the current system. People who live far away from where the server is located are going to still be at a disadvantage compared to people who are closer to the server than them. The funny thing is, people who are closest to the host of games already receive that kind of advantage over people. Information still takes time to travel, the only thing servers really eliminate is one person getting a host advantage.

5. As time goes on, less and less people will play the game. It happens with every game. Why would they keep massively expensive servers up as the population goes down? What are they going to do, shut down a server to save money and then completely -blam!- over people who live far away from any other server.

QFT. Seriously It would be fine for people living near the servers but on the other side of the country or other side of the world? Even with great connections lag still happens because of the great distance. Host does have flaws but it is way better than dedicated servers. Lets say two people in Australia are playing on servers in the US they live next door they are gonna get tremendous lag due to the time it takes to travel to the US and back. I live in the US and it would not affect me I have a great connection and hardly ever experience lag with Host. I also play with people near me alot. Plus they would have to spend tons of money maintaining them and having enough.
