Okay, I'm sorry, but you are not allowed to call anyone 12, when you're typing is like this.

How old are you? 14?

And what constitutes "gd" stuff? Agreeing with you? All I've seen you do is flame Microsoft for not ponying up the money to pay for dedicated servers, when they won't even fix everything!

Try listening to people when they speak, rather then just ignoring them. Sometimes, they have "gd" things to say, because they know more about a certain area then you do.

^ Bungie does have money. They also have expenses, unlike you.

Echo don't try and make yourself look kl because it didn't work. So your saying bungie sell 2million units of ODST and they don't have money, im not saying they are billionaires im saying I think they can afford dedicated servers.

  • 09.28.2009 4:17 PM PDT

I don't see you doing anything to help our country.
Except sitting at home, naked, eating twinkies, rubbing your hands together going "Heh. Target Destroyed. Mission Accomplished." Oh wait. that's not helping.

Okay, kid look at how many people play Halo 3 compared to Halo Pc, now imagine how much money it will take to support that many people. And if they do this it will have a limit like battlefield. Plus EA is a freaking Billion dollar company, and they only have dedicated servers so they can make more money by making you have to buy a new game when they shut off the old server.

People need to educate themselves on the nature of servers. They really don't solve any problems.

1. A server is massively expensive. Let alone having multiple servers (to counteract that having one won't solve half of the problems P2P hosting has) would be ridiculous to support. Who is going to pay for this? Why would they throw money at servers when they don't solve many of the problems P2P hosting has that people -blam!- and moan about?

We all know Microsoft can afford it, but if the suits think it's worth it is doubtful.

yh Mooreiuz V I agree with you I think they have enough money but they don't think its worth it but I do, everyone can have there opinion to whether they should do it or not but it seems most members just want to flame at others and say things like they are facts, im pretty sure none of us know for sure what bungie can afford or if they would never do this.

Halo, Bungie, and Microsoft.

Halo was the first game that reached $4,000,000 on opening day.
It was the first halo game that opened a Beta.
It also had major changes in all their games.
I think reach should have servers, cuz CE had some.
It might be in Reach, not sure. There is always room 4 a change.
This game has Broken sooooo many records!

Good topic, and finally, mabe no lag. mine is always YELLOW and ocasionally GREEN.

EDIT: Bungie is BREAKING away from Microsoft, so you can expect some good stuff and bad stuff (mostly bad) :(

We can debate the good and bad of games hosted in a central location all year long but it won't change one very important thing. The scale needed to support the launch of Halo Reach makes it impossible to implement dedicated servers. The advantage of the P2P model is that is can scale to gargantuan proportions. The caveat in P2P is security and manipulation but I for one will put up with certain issues as long as I can get a game whenever I feel like it. Having to wait to play cause a server is down or at capacity is crap I don't want to put up with. In reality having dedicated servers solve very little as far as latency is concerned.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

If EA can put in dedicated servers for Battlefield 1943,
I'm gonna stop you right there, when battlefied 1943 was released alot of people could not find a game because the servers were overcrowded. With Halo: Reach not only will the servers get overcrowded, the servers would literally crash and burn within the first 4 hours.

Some great comments guys. So alot of the bad things people have said is servers could go down and gd get too many people, but like some people said maybe they could just be used for matchmaking also servers are very very reliable they don't just brake. Also BF1943 had problems because they didn't expect it to be so popular not that the server just broke. Keep the comments and votes coming guys.

Chief vs the scarab? I find that hard to believe to roundhouse boot the scarab's figurative emotion out of the gaming zone.

Oh boy, I just can't wait for this to happen so that Microsoft can charge me an additional monthly subscription fee on top of Live just to play Reach!

  • 09.29.2009 3:30 PM PDT

Do you really think they would be silly enough to charge people they would never do that, anyway other games do it without extra costs from consumers.

  • 09.29.2009 3:50 PM PDT

Also I think it would be kl if Halo reach had a custom game browser like they promised for Halo 3

Absolutely. We're talking about Microsoft here, and Microsoft isn't going to spend millions and millions of dollars just to make your matchmaking experience slightly less laggy without finding a way for you to foot the bill.

Also, "other" games are not Halo games. Halo is Microsoft's little gaming cash cow, and Microsoft loves milking that little Halo cow. Just take a moment to consider how all of Halo 3's map packs were marketed and sold and you'll see that free rides in Halo land have been very few and far between.

So your saying bungie don't have control over there own game? anyway what are we ralking about monthly payments like an mmo because im lost.

I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Too many games end when the host quit though, it's too annoying to deal with. Also, matches won't be as fair because people will be quitting and joining in middle of games.
I hope they don't do this.

  • 09.29.2009 8:39 PM PDT

No. If they use dedicated servers, then you can only play live for as long as they decide to maintain the servers.

Not to mention those who live far away from the servers will have terrible connections.

People who vote yes have no idea what they are talking about and should do some research.

Bungie does not own the Halo games. Microsoft does. That was part of the deal back when Microsoft originally bought up Bungie back in the Halo:CE days. So, everything on the monetary side of Halo is controlled by Microsoft.

And yes, I am talking about monthly payments specific to a server-based Reach.

  • 09.30.2009 5:24 AM PDT

Ok lets just say we don't want dedicated servers dont you guys agree the game needs some improvements, they need to do something because host is just such a big advantage. Anyone have any other ideas then dedicated servers I would love to here some cool ideas people.

  • 09.30.2009 5:26 AM PDT
