I'll try be of help here, but I don't know if it'll work or not for a couple of reasons.
Start installing the game and wait until you get the A10.map error.
Open your Halo PC CD and go to "FilesCab". You'll see six .cab files in there that you can open using a program such as WinRAR/WinZip.
Find the one with a folder called "maps" in. There are three if I remember, but only one will have a10.map in.
Open up the folder you're installing Halo in, and try to copy a10.map in manually. If it works, try hitting the retry button if there is one. No idea if it'll work, but hey, worth a shot.
If that fails then keep the error window open and you can extract the entire contents of the six .cab files into your Halo folder, ensuring you maintain the file structure. Once done, CTRL+ALT+DEL the installer to make sure it doesn't do any clean up when it closes. This method will only work if the installer writes registry data containing the serial before it copies the map files over.
If when you try to launch Halo it gives you a bad installation/invalid product key message, then you'll need to install it on another machine, then do the following:
Start>Run>regedit then browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Halo
Right click the Halo folder on the left, then click Export. Save the file somewhere and move it to your other PC. Once done, simply double click the file and allow it to import the data. Tada, working Halo PC. :)
Hope that helps somewhat.
