I've seen lots of stuff about both. All I gotta say is that I like Halo's story a lot more and I'm a lot more involved with how it turns out (even though I love how HL iimmersed you so mucn in the story.) I think single player in Halo 2 is gonna be a little more fun than in Half-Life 2 because it has so many more features. Halo 2 has dual-weilding and from what I've seen, HL2 doesn't. H2 lets you steal a vehicle from the driver, HL2 doesn't. H2 will have fully destructible environments...HL2, I don't know yet. H2, in my opinion, has a way better control scheme: i.e., a designated grenade button and meelee attacks for all the weapons. HL2 doesn't have those as far as I know, and they're two of the most useful features ever in an FPS. H2 and HL2 will both have awesome AI. Both will have awesome graphics and lighting engines. H2 has the Master Cheif, who's a million times more badass than Gordon Freeman. H2 has cooler vehicles and guns (although, I have to admit that the gravity gun/whatever it's called in HL2 is pretty awesome). And, H2 will completely own in the multiplayer department.
Also, another feature that I think is really cool that I haven't seen in HL2: you can look down and see your feet! If you pay attention in a few of the multiplayer vids for H2 during a shot where the player is looking down, you can see the Spartan's feet! Awesome!
All in all, I think that Halo 2 will be better. I still think Half-Life 2 is gonna be freakin' awesome, but in the end Halo 2 will beat it. Mostly because of a better control setup, a cooler main character, awesome story, and a multiplayer mode that will leave all others in the dust. Oh, and you don't need to upgrade your Xbox and put a ton of money into a new video card to get good graphics out of it either. Saving money=Happy wallet.
