Subject: Halo REACH is going to play exactly like ODST; Spartan Edition

When we saw the banners/ads showing off ODST's cast, we thought that we would be able to play a rather large portion of the game as a single squad, Buck/Romeo/Rookie/Mickey, etc.

See that forum logo up there for HALO: REACH? That won't happen ingame; we won't have all 5 of those guys in a single group in gameplay. Just like what happened with ODST, we'll probably meet/see them individually.

*sigh*

God made man, but he didn't maked them equal, it's not the years in your life, it's your life in those years that counts.

Squad gameplay style, (G.O.W.) SUCKS, I love solo gameplay, evidently with Spartans and suicide strategies :D

ODSTs are... oldfashioned

Squad Gameplay won't happen in this game either

This quote is from the ''Proof, that i know all of the spartans'', thread

In the GTTV ODST/Reach coverage on September 3rd, Joesph Staten gave a little bit of insight on Reach. His words caught my attention, when he said, "It's not just the chief, there's more spartans with him" Joe was then asked if it was like a "squad of spartans," Joe replied saying "It's basically a squad of spartans, but not really squad combat." I believe that this just hints even more at Blue Team being the main focus for Reach. Also, this pretty much confirms that all the figures in the banner are Spartans.

Absolute PROOF That this game is basically Halo 3: ODST: Spartans

FALSE

"It's basically a squad of spartans, but >>>not really squad combat<<<."

Did you read the book Fall of Reach? Pay attention to the fights.

The teams of Spartans are more like: "Take the city" order given to a team of 4 spartans to clean a city occupied by the covenant, style new Mombasa.

Ok them are a team or a squad, but them """not really squad combat""", except in excepcional cases...

AND "It's not just the chief, there's more spartans >>>with<<< him"

With doesn't mean helping, and anyway I doubt that the gamestyle of ODST is reproduced on Reach, I'm refering to play as others that aren't the main character, simply because the results doing this on ODST were VERY bad, I continue prefering Halo 1, 2 and 3 than ODST. The only one that broken this rule was Halo 2 when you played as the Arbitrer, but it was well justified and it was cool, simply because them are not like marines... Slow and WEAK

i can see reach being an odst squad style game, but in bungie's own shape. hmmmm, new armor we havent seen yet. hmmmmm, definetly going to be new weapons. hmmmm, wouldnt put past bungie to throw in some new vehicles. hmmmmm, new multiplayer maps. hmmmmm, ah ha firefight will have matchmaking, odst was just a test to see how well it gets picked up by the fans. hmmm, i'm sure their going to beef up the engine from halo 3/odst. hmmm, to be continued. guess we'll have to keep coming up with our own theories.

  • 09.29.2009 7:04 AM PDT

Ok here is an idea and it sound funny but maybe they will set it up like Sonic.

We play the same fight from a different characters point of view. Not like ODST but more like doing each characters part.

It is totally possible. That sounds like squad combat but "Not really squad combat" because you are doing all the squad does just separately.

Just an idea. Of course nobody knows for sure.

I think it would be kind of cool that way. At least we can use all the characters and we could do the campaign like 5 times using all the characters.

Think of it. 5 Legendary Achievements hahaha!

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

(>-^.^)> ( # )

I don't see how ODST and Reach will have similar gameplay.

ODST leans towards the stealthy, ninja type gameplay (with the silenced weapons and crepeing around and such) because you're playing as a human with basic armor.

Reach would be the "RUSH!!!!!" gameplay we're used to from Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3 that we all love so much. Because we will be playing as Spartans, we'd be going in there with an AR and destroying everything in our way.

  • 09.29.2009 7:25 AM PDT

honestly, i dont work at CVS.

referring to the banner; Why is one of the figures SO much bigger than the others. is it just cuz that figure is closer to our perspective? or could it be an Elite? I know this is supposed to be a prequel to HaloCE but is it entirely impossible that a sort of Heretic would help this group which contains Spartan259?

I dont think so. I think that huge figure looks like an Elite. I see it in the legs, and the fact that the top of the figure resembles an elite.

That looks nothing like an elite. The armor is wrong and so are the legs. It's a human character, just like the rest.

On a side note, we don't know who or what Sierra 259 is. Could be a Spartan, could be a Pelican call sign.

eh, i think it could possibly be an Elite. I refuse to rule anything out when it comes to Halo.

i agree with your side note tho. we just dont know what it is. we arent in the UNSC (yet) and we dont really know how their call signs work. just another thing to keep us interested i assume.

I'm pretty sure that this is not part of Halo 3. It's a prequel to Halo 1. Read the books. Spartans are nothing like ODST either.

The EXACT Joe Staten quote is, "It's got squads, but without the baggage of squad based combat"

Also, read the books. Spartans operate NOTHING like ODST's.

Want proof of retconing? Bungie doesn't do it often, and the one time they did, it was seriously needed.

In Fall of Reach The humans hadn't met the Hunters, OR the Elites until 2552. After 20 years of war they had never been seen. So Ghosts of Oynx Retconned that, so the humans encountered them much earlier in the war.

That's changing the canon; and, the elites had never been reported as being seen by surviving forces until 2552. All the squads in the Halo books that encounter brutes or elites or hunters prior to the events detailed in Fall of Reach never survived to make reports on what they found.

Wrong.

In Ghosts of Oynx Kurt watches a video feed from one of the Alpha company Spartan III's, and he clearly sees Ash firing at Elites. And Members of Beta company (Tom and Lucy) Fight a purple elite at the factory they destroyed.

The UNSC knew about elites well before Reach.

The UNSC did, yes, but it was not general knowledge among the soldiers at the time. The activities of the S-IIIs were top-secret ONI classified. THe existence of Elites was kept a secret until the time they were encountered by Spartan II's. Don't ask me why, but that's how it happened.

  • 09.29.2009 10:15 AM PDT

Bungie should just once and for all make a Timeline Tree about all of this stuff in an orderly manner.

They won't but they should.

It could be a nice year long project that they could release at the same time Halo 4 comes out with the Master Chief once again.

Then everyone will never again have to shoot morsels of knowledge at each other in hopes of being right.

I think even Bungie can't get it right.

I really wonder how they track all this stuff. Maybe they took notes from Lucas on how to make sure you don't get anything mixed up so they they don't doom their story.

I have read and played it all and yet find out someting new or different all the time.
