Bring Back Rocket Race!!!

Well, as you know, Halo 3: ODST was recently released. And it's already the top-selling game. I'm not sure if it broke Halo 3's record though. Anyways, the game is pretty amazing for an expansion to Halo 3. I think the campaign of ODST beats the campaign of any Halo game so far. But compared to Halo 1, ODST completely blows away Halo 1. Since ODST is kind of an open-world game, it has a lot more replayability than Halo 1. Obviously the graphics are way better than Halo 1. And the soundtrack in ODST which is a new style is much more amazing than Halo 1. It's also a lot more modern. Since ODST is considered an expansion, it's multiplayer mode is Halo 3's multiplayer which is matchmaking, custom games, forge, and theater mode. Halo 3 and its expansion Halo 3: ODST totally destroys Halo 1.

Agreed! I LOVED Halo 1 multiplayer. I personally think it was the best balance and physics available. No tracking rockets, a worthwhile pistol, a BR that could actually kill someone. FALL DAMAGE! That was the best thing in the world! I'm still angry with Bungie for Halo 2 and 3. I was desperately hoping for ODST to rival Halo 1, and include a multiplayer fuction with these physics. Sadly however, Bungie did not deliver. I did like the physics of ODST, however, but still no multiplayer action like Halo 1. Booo.

Want to hear a funny joke? Marijuana prohibition.

ODST comes nowhere near being as good as Halo 1 because of the lack of multiplayer in ODST.

Campaign is just decent in ODST. It goes by too fast

Saying all this, note that I absolutely love my ODST:

Replayabilty: After completing the campaign, you can hunt down (co-op) achievements and audio logs, but after that, I don't see anyone but regular Halo fans like forum-goers here playing it more. I don't want to get into the sweetness of Combat Evolved's campaign, but if you're a regular here you don't need to hear it - long story short, no comparison. At all.

Graphics: ODST's art was very well done. I was pleasantly surprised at the visor's opaque/transparent switches and of course the epic drop sequence. That said, Halo's simplistic art style still appeals to me more than Halo 2 and 3's. Multiplayer maps are the exception.

Soundtrack: It's music, you can't compare them. Personally, I did like the new one better: New, creative, original tracks that had a full orchestra backing (that there obviously wasn't budget room in for Halo 1).

It's unfair to compare multiplayer modes, seeing as it wasn't even a main feature 'til Halo 2.

I like ODST too and I think the entire city with all the buildings is just amazing! You don't see too many games like that. As for the multiplayer, Halo 1 technically did have online multiplayer when the PC version of it came out. But even the PC version of multiplayer had lots of downsides until Halo 2 came.

But all in all, ODST has the best graphics to date and good replayability.

Who cares if Halo 1's multiplayer doesn't have Xbox live? It's gameplay was better than every other Halo, and in the end gameplay is all that matters.

LOL! I didn't even read your post. Halo 3 ODST does not even come CLOSE to Halo! It is the pure greatest.

EXTREME PREJUDICE

Totally destroys? No. I wouldn't go that far.

Both offer the player a different experience. Both have things that the other lacks.

I can't choose between the two.

No. Halo CE is the best game in the Halo series yet.

In order of overall goodness. (both campaign and multiplayer)

1.Halo 1 (best campaign)
2.Halo 2 (best multiplayer)
3.Halo ODST (best music and graphics)
4.Halo 3 (average) didn't care much for this one.

Halo 1 was beaten almost 5 years ago when Halo 2 came out. The ratings support that and the critics all thought Halo 2 was better than Halo 1. Usually the critics go with the vast majority of people. Unfortunately, ODST wasn't rated as high as Halo 3 in some areas. The campaign of ODST is probably the best part which beats the campaign in all Halo games so far.

You know, I wonder if you've even played ODST before. If you haven't then you shouldn't be posting in this thread since all your arguments will be biased and you wouldn't know what you're talking about when it comes to ODST.

I've finished all of the games, and played them all a LOT, except ODST since it's new, but I've still finished it on Legendary/most achievements.

My opinion is that the free-roaming is a joke. I was really hyped for the concept, but it turned out to just be an annoying way of having to get from level to level - the levels were just as linear, if not more so than the previous games.

Firefight is a great concept, again, like the free roaming, but poorly executed. Once all the achievements are done, you've racked up a fair few hours of firefight, and I'll admit it was quite fun doing it, anything is fun with friends.

But now doing firefight is just optional, there's nothing to gain. And frankly, my friends and I simply won't waste 2-4 hours on firefight (a whole evening), on one gametype, on one map when we could be playing a whole variety of gametypes on multiplayer Halo 3, or if we wanted to fight AI, doing campaign missions on co-op instead.

Considering how the campaign is more or less the same concept as Halo 3s on Legendary (peek, noob combo, headshot, duck and wait for regeneration) and how it is so short, compared to ANY of the previous Halo games. (On Legendary Halo 2 being the longest, then 3, CE, then ODST) I just simply don't have a reason to ever play it again.

If I want to fight AI I'd have more of a challenge and more fun being the MC on Halo CE, or with friends on Halo 3, and if I want multiplayer, I'm going to go to Halo2/3 again.

I agree, ODST was fun on the first playthrough, but frankly, I think that's all of the playthroughs the game merits (this coming from a guy who's done AotCR/Silent Cartographer 50+ times each).

It has no classic replayable levels like every other game managed to deliver (AotCR, Outskirts/Delta Halo/Crow's Nest), and the campaign is really all it's offering. Poor performance indeed, Bungie.

  • 09.30.2009 3:45 PM PDT

i'll jave to disagree with you here.
i think the free roaming makes ODST quite replayable.
on CE for PC i remember playing the level "keys" and jumping on top of the phantoms, and on the silent cartographer i remember jumping on hunter's heads and making them smash me while i jumped to boost me up onto higher platforms.
you can do the same on ODST with friends, by double jumping. grenade jumping, etc.

you are completely wrong man. you are way to caught up in the moderen. if you played Halo: CE from when it first was released and you were a tiny child at the time then you have a huge amount of respect for the game but if you have played ODST then CE you are not appreciating the game man.

Actually, I started with a true classic game known as Goldeneye 64 on the Nintendo 64. That game is what set the standards for all future FPS's including Halo. But anyways, I started from Halo 1 when I was little and then got all the games as they came out. So I've played each game for many years except for ODST which is only about 1 week old. So after playing almost every Halo game for many years, I'd have to say the newer the game is, the better it is. However, I'm split between whether Halo 3 is better than ODST.

Queen is awesome.

Why do you ignore all the good comments that dispute things you say and instead go after the weak ones you can attack easily?

What good comments? I've countered every argument in this thread thus far. And most of the arguments are just simple opinions like multiplayer was more fun.

Seriously, you've all used the same old arguments too many times. And I've given the same answer too many times. Why? Because Halo 1 has nothing new to offer anymore which is why your arguments will never change. You will never get new evidence or facts to support your arguments. However, since Halo 3 and ODST are still changing, I always have new things to add to my arguments such as how ODST's campaign is much better and more replayable because it's not a linear shooter like the previous halo games. The open world feature in a large city is something that makes ODST a great game and better than Halo 1.

  • 10.01.2009 5:54 PM PDT

odst's campaign is short and has retarded dialouge. easily on par with halo 2 as one of the worst campaigns. gg.

The critics also gave 3 a 10 out of 10 and immediately regretted it when they realized the game actually sucked. Same with 2(it didn't suck but isn't the best game in the world) odst will be takenm out of the spotlight in a week and a half. trust me.
